EDS DESK: Cory Bernardi On Chicken Strangling War Criminal Ben Roberts-Smith "IndyWatch Feed National"

Eds Desk is an occasional column in New Matilda where we sub-edit a story that has already been published, but probably shouldnt have been. This edition, we look at Sky News comedian/bestiality warrior Cory Bernardi, and his man-love for Chicken Strangler turned War Criminal, Ben Roberts-Smith.

Hi Cory,
Ive been asked to cast an eye over your script for tomorrow, re Ben Roberts-Smith being found by a judge to have committed war crimes in Afghanistan. Please see notes below. Cheers Ed.

[HEADLINE] Ben Roberts-Smiths courage under fire can never be disputed
EDS DESK: Cory, no-one is disputing Robert-Smiths courage under fire, any more than people questioned Ted Bundys sense of calm while he was chopping up young women. You may as well suggest Robert-Smiths capacity to wipe his arse and pull up his pants is above reproach because its about as relevant. Also, Roberts-Smith is a psychopath, so obviously he loves being under fire. Headline will need to change.

[BODY COPY] The news this week has been dominated by the defamation verdict of war hero Ben Roberts-Smith.
Right. When you say war hero Cory, did you mean war criminal? I understand how the two terms might be confusing for you both have the word war in them. But theyre quite different things. Please amend.

I have to admit the trial was a victory for the Nine Media Group, which the judge ruled had satisfied the grounds for their accusations that they levelled against the Victoria Cross winner.
You dont have to admit anything Cory, because youre not accused of a crime. Yet. But it is true that Nine won the defamation action, so just say that, rather than trying to appear fair and balanced by acknowledging the existence of facts you dont like.

Now, Ive gotta say, I dont know Ben Roberts-Smith, although I do know some people who do. Accordingly, I am not equipped to make judgement as to whether hes a good bloke or not, and nor do I know first-hand what sort of soldier he was.
Okay, perfect. That was quick. Lets leave it at then. Cheers Ed.

However, what I do know is that...

Kathleen Folbigg set to be pardoned "IndyWatch Feed National"

After two decades inside, Kathleen Folbigg is set to be pardoned following a decision by the NSW Attorney General Michael Daley to grant her a release from prison ahead of the handing down of the full report from the inquiry into her convictions that has taken place over the last 12 months.

The decision follows mounting community and media pressure and a motion that passed the NSW Upper House last week introduced by Greens MP, solicitor and spokesperson for Justice, Sue Higginson.

A huge moment for justice

This is a huge moment for justice in this state, said Ms Higginson. Kathleen Folbiggs friends, supporters and legal team have stood by her and fought for justice for years and years and finally we are seeing justice be delivered. It is with the deepest gratitude that I thank the Attorney General for showing the necessary courage to make this decision.

The Attorney General has listened to the community, the Parliament and most importantly the evidence and made a decision that I think we can all agree is the right one.

Ms Folbigg should not have been in prison for even a day longer after the inquiry showed there was reasonable doubt about her guilt, but now we are finally seeing the necessary steps being taken to ensure she is released from prison and that is a decision that we welcome.

The power that ongoing campaigning for justice can have

Ms Higginson said this moment demonstrates the power that ongoing campaigning for justice can have. Last week the Attorney General appeared steadfast in his position to delay the release of Ms Folbigg until after the report from the inquiry had been handed down, but we brought the fight for justice to his doorstep and he has responded to the pressure in the only acceptable way and made the decision to release Ms Folbigg.

Weve received confirmation that Ms Folbigg has walked free this morning and that she is in the sunlight, shes now free from prison.

It is a massive relief for all of those who have stood by Ms Folbigg. This decision is in the best interests of Ms Folbigg and the NSW Community.

It is time to get serious about the housing affordability crisis "IndyWatch Feed National"

The following was written by Joe Montero in his capacity as the Victorian President of Fair Go For Pensioners. and it puts a view on the action needed than that practiced by a succession of Australian governments and was repeated in the May federal budget. The resulting debate has unleashed a rise in the debate about what is needed, and this provides a good opportunity to raise alternatives to the obsession of reliance on the market.

Being able to afford a home to provide for housing needs is an important part of living a quality life. In fact, a decent home to live in should be treated as  fundamental human right. If was to be treated this way in Australia, the government would act to ensure this right was met, and what it had to do to achieve this end would be a no brainer.

It would means investing enough to ensure affordable housing is in reach for everyone. This would be the only acceptable minimum.

But Australia has not yet reached this understanding. Governments, whether Coalition or Labor, remain wedded to the dogma that only the market can legitimately provide the answer. Neither believed this once. Now they both do. This is the hold that the ideology has on them. Government intervention must be kept to a minimum according to them, and what there is must only be contemplated if it takes the form of giving assistance to the major players in the industry.

Neither really regards adequate housing as a basic human right. Housing is seen as a commodity to be bought and sold by those who can afford to be players.

The high price of housing is the result of market failure and the associated raise of a housing speculation bubble, aided by government handouts to developers and big landlords. Behind the market failure is the high degree of monopoly that enables developers and corporate landlords to take advantage and profit in excess of what a properly functioning market would allow.  The outrageous cost of housing is not a market price. The mechanism to achieve the high price has been the deliberate creation of excessive debt.

The graph below reveals the ongoing rise of finance approval, which means a continuing expansion of debt, which imposed a huge burden on mortgage owner occupier homes of $28.8 billion by mid 2022.

This brings us to the claim that the problem is a shortage in the supply of housing. Where...

New visa-based protections could be a game-changer for migrant workers "IndyWatch Feed National"

Migrant Justice Institute and the Human Rights Law Centre today welcome the Albanese Government's commitment to introducing visa-based protections for migrant workers who address exploitation at work.

The Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles committed today to introducing 3 important protections for migrant workers: protection against visa cancellation, flexible visa requirements for future sponsorship visas, and a short-term visa to bring claims for wages they are owed and hold exploitative employers to account.

The Human Rights Law Centre, Migrant Justice Institute and academics at UNSW and UTS have led a coalition of 40 organisations across the country - including trade unions, migrant rights and faith-based groups - to develop a blueprint for visa protections for migrant workers. Todays announcement reflects the commitment of migrant workers and their allies.

Migrant Justice Institute and the Human Rights Law Centre also welcome the governments announcement of two further protections for migrant workers, for which they and other migrant worker allies have campaigned for many years: regulations to enable sponsored migrants to leave a dodgy employer and work to support themselves for up to 6 months while they find a new sponsor, and a commitment to changing the Migration Act to ensure all workers are protected by Australian workplace laws regardless of immigration status.

The coalition warned, however, that in order to be effective, visa-based protections must be robust and reflect the realities of migrants lives at work. The co-design of those protections by the Department of Home Affairs must centre migrant workers, their representatives in the union movement and allies.

Inderjit Kaur, a temporary visa holder and advocate with the Migrant Workers Centre, said:

I had my wages stolen by two employers, because they knew my visa could be cancelled if I stood up to them, and they took advantage of that. Because I had no security with my visa, I could not take action until it was too late. I never got back any of the money that was stolen from me and my visa is now uncertain. This should not have happened to my family, and it should not happen to migrants who are coming to Australia now.

Sanmati Verma, Managing Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre, said:

The Albanese Government has finally heeded the call from migrant workers and their allies to introduce visa protections for migrant workers. It has a critical opportunity over the coming months to design out some of the levers for exploitation in the migration regime. If it is serious about achieving that, it will put migrant workers and their allies at the centre of co-designing these critical protections.

Albanese Government must bring Australians in Syria home "IndyWatch Feed National"

The Human Rights Law Centre is calling on the Albanese Government to repatriate all Australian people still held in detention camps in Syria, after Save the Children were today forced to commence legal action because the Government has failed to act.

Many Australians have remained trapped in the camps for four years, away from their homes and relatives in Australia, despite other countries taking steps to repatriate their nationals from Syria.

The United Nations has reported that young boys in the camps are at risk of being removed from their families and placed in mens or adult prisons, as 17-year-old Yusuf Zahab was before he died in a Syrian camp. Before his death, he and his family had begged the Australian Government to bring him home.

All Australian people have the right to return to Australia. The rights and protections of citizenship cannot depend on the whims of governments. The Albanese Governments failure to act earlier has cost lives and put other lives at risk.

Save the Children has commenced legal action to secure the safe repatriation of the remaining women and children in the Federal Court. The case argues the Australian Government is ultimately responsible for their ongoing and unlawful detention.

Josephine Langbien, Senior Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre, said:

The Australians trapped in Syrian camps have been held for years in dire and dangerous conditions. The Australian Governments refusal to repatriate them is the only reason they remain there. Every person involved in this case has a right to come home, and they should not have to resort to litigation to force their own government to bring them back.

The Albanese Government is prolonging the trauma these Australians have endured and the separation from their loved ones at home. The Albanese Government must take responsibility for the safety of its citizens and ensure that no more lives are lost. All of these people, children and adults alike, deserve a future. They must be brought home to their families and communities in Australia.

The corrupt Australian Defence Force tampering with evidence "IndyWatch Feed National"

People in government departments commit criminal actions every single day where most if not all go unnoticed.

The ADF is on organisation that commits criminal activities, not only within the colony but also abroad.

There is no ousting of this criminal activity nor any real court time for the age old excuse of national security, which can almost be alleged to anything.

Persons within the ADF have committed the crime of tampering with evidence with regards to Ben Roberts Smiths killing of civilians overseas in Afghantistan.

They have altered photos to suit a false agenda.

The photo on the left is the original untouched displaying the Crusader's cross, while the one on the right is the official one the ADF released.

The problem now is will there be any criminal charges against the persons involved?

Will the victims of Ben Robert-Smith's actions get any real remedy?

Mysterious death of acquaintance of 'Aussie Cossack' Boikov - Boikov is living at Russian consulate after skipping court "IndyWatch Feed National"

A man who was a close associate of the ultra-nationalist pro-Putin supporter Simeon Boikov - known as the 'Aussie Cossack' - has been found dead by police. Comment: For the legacy media 'ultra-nationalist' and 'far-right' are mostly used to smear people, rather than to be used as accurate descriptions, and they're particularly used against people with regards to issues like Russia's special operation in Ukraine, or vaccine mandates and lockdowns. James Walters, 42, was found on May 23 by police in Sydney's northern suburbs, some 10 days after he was reported missing on May 13. NSW Police told Daily Mail Australia police were satisfied the body was that of Mr Walters, who had last been seen in the north-west Sydney suburb of Chatswood. 'We had concerns for the man's welfare,' a police spokesperson said, adding officers had seen nothing to suggest the death was suspicious.

The US is pulling loyal allies into Asia "IndyWatch Feed National"

Prairial

Against the backdrop of failed attempts to draw Asian countries into its orbit, Washington decided to enlist the support of old European friends.

The French Navy frigate Prairial paid a courtesy visit to Japan from April 20 to April 27. The ship took part in a joint drill to repress unlawful activity at sea before taking the place of honor in the self-defense fleet, headquartered at Yokosuka. The entry was a kind of announcement of a number of other more substantial joint military maneuvers.

Rear Admiral Geoffroy dAndign, who oversees the campaign, enthusiastically said at the events press conference that the current year of 2023 should be unparalleled in terms of strengthening collaboration between the two countries in the military field. The newest frigate Lorraine, commissioned last year, will visit Japan in May to engage in anti-submarine exercises, after which a group of Rafale fighter jets will be dispatched to the islands, and the countries will arrange ground forces maneuvers in French New Caledonia at the end of the year. All these actions are said to be aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation and maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

What is the source of Paris renewed interest in the distant region? Following its defeat in Indochina, France has permanently abandoned its colonial ambitions in the Indo-Pacific region, and the remaining Polynesian islands under its control are so remote from the sources of tension that the appearance of any threats to them is in the realm of science fiction. Consider for a moment that the military expansion is motivated by concern for the overseas territories, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand would make more sense as allies than Japan, which is constrained by limitations on action outside of its islands. Not to mention the challenging economic climate in France, which is made worse by the necessity of making monthly financial and armament donations to sustain the Ukrainian government. With these considerations in mind, planning military drills on the other side...

Chatham House reviews The Palestine Laboratory "IndyWatch Feed National"

Chatham House is one of Britains leading policy institutes.

Its monthly magazine, The World Today, has published a review of my new book, The Palestine Laboratory, by the International Crisis Group Senior Analyst on Israel/Palestine, Mairav Zonszein.

Its a largely positive review with some pointed criticisms. It feels like 8 out of 10.

Heres an excerpt:

Loewenstein wants to expose Israel as a hostile regime on a par with Russia and China. He conveys a palpable frustration with the fact that Israel has managed to excel at developing tools to maintain ethnonationalist rule and export them to dozens of countries, and at both a financial and diplomatic gain.

He also writes at length about private Israeli companies, staffed by former Israeli intelligence officers and often operating with a government licence, that have, for instance, provided surveillance drones to Russia which were used in the Syrian civil war. These private companies, Loewenstein shows, often do the bidding of the Israeli government, blurring the line between public and private sector, between defence and commerce.

The West is complicit in this network, too. Surveillance technology developed in Israel has also been sold to the United States, in the form of watch towers on the Mexican border, and to the European Union, whose own border agency Frontex has used Israeli drone technology to monitor refugees.

Loewenstein also argues convincingly that growing numbers of regimes globally [are] learning how Israel gets away with politicide, citing the definition by Israeli academic Baruch Kimmerling as the dissolution of the Palestinian peoples existence as a legitimate social, political, and economic entity. This is a serious concern, considering explicit calls from senior members of the current Israeli government for the expulsion of Palestinians.

LOGGING KOALAS TO EXTINCTION "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

North East Forests Alliance Media Release

May 28 2023

The North East Forest Alliance is calling on upon the NSW and Commonwealth Environment Ministers to urgently intervene to protect the most important Koala habitat identified by their governments, after an assessment of the Forestry Corporations 12 month Plan of Logging Operations for the NSW north coast found they include 41,000 ha of Nationally Important Koala Areas and 2,700 ha of Koala Hubs.

Both Governments have undertaken assessments to identify the most important Koala habitat for protection, and yet they have allowed the Forestry Corporation to go on logging these habitats without any changes to the inadequate 2018 logging rules, even in areas where Koalas were decimated by the 2019/20 wildfires, NEFA spokesperson Dailan Pugh said.

If our governments were genuine about saving north coast Koalas then they would immediately protect the 234,000 ha of Nationally Important Koala Areas and 15,000 ha of koala hubs they identified on State forests Mr. Pugh said.

In accordance with its National Recovery Plan, in 2021 the Commonwealth identified Nationally Important Koala Areas as priority koala habitat for incorporation into state protected areas. On the north coast 233,945 ha (23.6%) of Nationally Important Koala Areas occur on State forests.

At the request of the NSW Chief Scientist, in 2017 the Office of Environment and Heritage analysed Koala records "to delineate highly significant local scale areas of koala occupancy currently known for protection". On the north coast 15,318 ha (24.4%) of Koala Hubs occur on State forests.

Bridging the Gap between Research and Policy: Lessons from Co-Creation in the Aid Sector "IndyWatch Feed National"

There is an increasing focus in academic and policy circles on research-policy partnerships. These partnerships are often achieved through co-creation, or the joint production of innovation between combinations of industry, research, government and civil society. Co-creation is central to innovation in the hard sciences and technology, but its role in international relations scholarship and aid policy remains underdeveloped.

As scholars of international aid practice, we believe that co-creation can help us design and conduct more relevant, rigorous, and impactful research. It is also a core mission of the Research on International Policy Implementation Lab (RIPIL), whose co-creation process engages policymakers and practitioners in: 1) the generation of important, policy-relevant research questions; 2) research on these questions, through regular validation and consultation; and 3) the development and dissemination of findings and their policy implications, which often leads to the identification of important new research questions and opportunities.

In this piece, we focus on the first phase: the co-creation of research questions. This is one of the trickiest phases of the co-creation process because it requires researchers and policymakers to find a common question and research design that aligns with academics incentive to publish rigorous research and policymakers incentive to feed evidence into the policy process. Future blog posts will discuss how to implement co-created research and disseminate co-created findings.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we initiated a collaboration intended to generate policy-relevant research questions on the changing nature of international aid. Our aim was to get a sense of whether the combined shocks of COVID-19, growing calls to decolonize aid, and the rise of populism and popular protest had changed the underlying power dynamics in aid.

Importantly, in this project, we did not just want to learn from practitioners based in Western Europe or North America. We wanted insights from key thinkers and actors from the context where aid dependency has been most acute: the African continent. We wanted to understand how these thought leaders viewed aid-related power dynamics and how research could help answer their most puzzling questions.

Between 2020 and 2022, we conducted one-on-one interviews, organized virtual focus groups, and hosted a high-level roundtable in Geneva with donor governments and international non-government organizations (INGOs) on power in aid, all to better understand the changing nature of aid and the research questions that matter to policymakers, practitioners, and key African thinkers.

What Australian Unions declared to be "the largest increase to minimum and Award wages in Australias history" occurred on Thursday 1 June 2023 - effective 1 July "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

This was Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) Secretary Sally McManus writing on the Australian Unions website, 2 June 2023:

Today the Fair Work Commission announced that workers on the national minimum wage will receive a pay rise of 8.6 per cent. Workers on Award wages will have their pay increased by 5.75 per cent. Both of those increases will come into effect in the first pay period after 1 July 2023.

The union movement fought hard for this pay increase. Up against us were the big business lobby who argued for a real-wage cut.

All union members should be proud of this pay rise. Its the largest increase to minimum and Award wages in Australias history.

Its what unions do we use our strength in numbers to ensure that working peoples pay gets moving again.

Following the court order in suit No: FHC/PH/CS/88/2023, we sealed off his Port Harcourt office, Rivers state few weeks ago and on Friday we went to his Isoko residence to seal it off as well as other properties identified to have been owned by him across the country.

Why is he on the run for several weeks now? Why is he evading arrest and interrogation? If you are running a genuine business; why hiding, why on the run, why refusing to honour invitation extended to you, why evading arrest? Any moment from now we shall declare him wanted and place a bounty on him. We learnt he travelled abroad and may not be back until the proclamation of the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu.

Father of Gonzalo Lira, American jailed in Ukraine, speaks out against "political imprisonment" "IndyWatch Feed National"

US citizen Gonzalo Lira faces a long prison term in Ukraine for criticizing the country's government. Shunned by the US government, his father is fighting to stop the "slow death of a son." When US media have demonstrated any interest in the arrest of an American citizen, Gonzalo Lira, it has been primarily to celebrate his prosecution on the grounds that he has been "shilling for Putin." The US State Department, meanwhile, refuses to answer questions about the disappearance of an American at the hands of a government substantially funded by Washington. The Grayzone spoke to Lira's father, 80-year-old Gonzalo Lira Sr., about his son's arrest. "I can only say that this episode has marked my life because it is living a slow death of a son," Lira Sr. said. He fretted that the Ukrainian government was preparing a "kangaroo court" for his son, and lamented that it could lock him up for over a decade for his political speech. Lira is an American and Chilean citizen who has been living in...

Draconian: South Australia just topped NSW, Tas, Victoria, Queensland with new laws penalising peaceful protesters "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Michael West Media, by Wendy Bacon | Jun 3, 2023

A bill introducing harsh penalties and extending the scope of a law applying to those who obstruct public places has been passed after an all-night sitting by the South Australian Legislative Council this week. Veteran investigative journalist (herself twice imprisoned for free speech) Wendy Bacon reports.

South Australia now joins New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria and Queensland, states which have already passed anti-protest laws imposing severe penalties on people who engage in peaceful civil disobedience. South Australias new law carries the harshest financial penalties in Australia.

Thirteen Upper House Labor and Liberal MPs voted for the Bill, opposed by two Greens MPs and two SABest MPs. The government faced down the cross bench moves to hold an inquiry into the bill, to review it in a year or add a defence of reasonableness.

The Summary Offences (Obstruction of Public Places) Amendment Bill 2023 was introduced into the House Assembly by Premier Peter Malinauskas the day after Extinction Rebellion protests were staged around the Australian Petroleum and  Exploration Association (APPEA) annual conference on May 17. The most dramatic of these protests was staged by 69 year old Meme Thorne who abseiled off a city bridge causing delays and traffic to be diverted.

Meanwhile the gas lobby APPEA which is financed by foreign fossil fuel companies has stopped publishing its (public) financial statements. Questions put for this story were ignored but we will append a response should one be available

The new law introduces maximum penalties of $50,000 (66 times the previous maximum fine) or a prison sentence of three months. The maximum fine was previously $750, and there was no prison penalty. If emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) are called to a protest, those convicted can also be required to pay emergency service costs. The scope of the law has also been widened to include indirect obstruction of a public place.

This means that if you stage a protest and the police use 20 emergency vehicles to divert traffic, you could be found guilty under the new section and be liable for the costs. Even people handing out pamphlets about vaping harm in front of a shop, or workers gathering on a footpath to demand better pay, could fall foul of the laws. An SABest amendment to the original bill removing the word reckless restricts its scope to intentional acts.

EDITORIAL: Government turns a blind eye to lessons from nuclear disaster "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

 https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14923055 June 2, 2023

It appears that the lessons learned from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster have been taken so lightly.

The government and a majority of the Diet are heavily responsible for pushing through a reversal of the nations nuclear policies without careful deliberation, shifting from a reduction of dependence on nuclear power and heading to its maximum utilization.

We must keep asking ourselves whether we can solve the many difficult problems plaguing nuclear power plants and whether they could end up haunting future generations.

This week, a bill related to promoting nuclear plants was passed by the Diet.

The governments responsibilities and measures aimed at the active utilization are stipulated in the Atomic Energy Basic Law.

The new law also relaxed restrictions on nuclear reactors operational periods introduced after the catastrophic disaster at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, opening a path to allowing reactors to operate beyond 60 years if certain conditions are met.

The Asahi Shimbun in its editorials has opposed the bill and called for its reconsideration.

That is because nuclear plants are plagued with a mountain of issues such as the ever-growing nuclear waste and Japans nuclear fuel cycle that has reached an impasse, not to mention safety and economic concerns.

And it is unacceptable for the government to reverse its stance to restarting nuclear plants without showing a path to solving the problems.

Now is the time to speed up reforms to make renewable energy a primary power source from the standpoint of the overall energy policy.

Returning to dependence on nuclear plants could lead to going down the wrong path.

The bill was also rushed along as the government adopted the new policy last year after only several months of debate.

The Diet was supposed to do everything in its power to scrutinize the bill from multiple perspectives, but no deep discussions ensued.

We cant help but be disappointed.

Reasons cited for the about-face were the need for a stable supply of energy and the decarbonization of energy sources.

But how much of a role do nuclear plants actually play in these goals? And why is it necessary to treat them differently?

The government shied away from answering these questions head-on and repeatedly said it was important to pursue all possible options, including nuc...

Establishment of the US Department of Defence All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office "IndyWatch Feed National"

Media release

On 20 July 2022, the U.S. Department of Defense published a media release titled "DoD Announces the Establishment of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office." The text of the release reads:

https://media.defense.gov/2021/Mar/03/2002592680/-1/-1/0/210212-A-BI463-0003.JPG

"On July 15, 2022, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, in coordination with the Director of National Intelligence [DNI], amended her original direction to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security by renaming and expanding the scope of the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group [AOIMSG] to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office [AARO], due to the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2022, which included a provision to establish an office, in coordination with DNI, with responsibilities that were broader than those originally assigned to the AOIMSG.

Today, USD (I&S) Hon Ronald S.  Moultrie informed the department of the establishment of AARO within the office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, and named Dr. Sean M. Kirkpatrick, most recently the Chief Scientist at the Defense Intelligence Agency's Missile and Space Intelligence Center, as the Director of AARO.

The mission of the AARO will be to synchronize efforts across the Department of Defense, and with other US federal departments and agencies, to detect, identify and attribute objects of interest in, on or near military installations, operating areas, training areas, special use airspace and other areas of interest, and, as necessary, to mitigate any associated threats to safety of operations and national security. NASA's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Study "IndyWatch Feed National"

Background

My 12 July 2021 blog article titled "NASA and UAP: an updated official statement is available," drew attention to a 10 June 2021 interview with NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, by U.S. media outlet "Politico."

https://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-administrator-bill-nelson/

In the "Politico" article, Nelson revealed that, as a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, he was briefed, on observations of UAP by Naval aviators. So, he had later, once he joined NASA, directed a senior member of staff, Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, to look into the topic.

In my own article, I described then recent statements by NASA personnel about UAP; and the contents of part of NASA's own website, which presented a then current statement about UAP.

NASA study of UAP

On 9 June 2022 a NASA media release came out titled "NASA to Set Up Independent Study on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena." It read:

"NASA is commissioning a study team to start early in the fall to examine Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs) - that is, observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena - from a scientific perspective. The study will focus on identifying available data, how best to collect future data, and how NASA can use that data to move the scientific understanding of UAPs forward.

The limited number of observations of UAPs currently makes it difficult to draw scientific conclusions about the nature of such events. Unidentified Aerial Phenome...

Central Bankers Beer Goggles are Masking an Ugly Crisis, Again "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

This week, my Blues-supporting close personal acquaintance Greg Canavan tweeted a cryptic message about the impact of central banks recent interest rate hikes:

The lagged impact of rate rises starting to hit. Six months ago, the spread between Aussie 10-year and 2-year govt yields was around 40bpsnow its 9bps. Bond market says Aussie economy slowing fast.

No doubt the slowing Aussie economy is of interest to investors. But I want to focus on the first bit instead. Because the lagged impact of rate rises could unleash economic chaos which will make any recession look boring.

You see, monetary policy doesnt work as fast as you might think. In fact, although theres plenty of debate on the matter, estimates are that it takes between one and two years for higher interest rates to kick in.

The Reserve Bank of Australias rate hikes began you guessed it a year ago. This means those rate hikes have only just begun to have their intended effect.

And over the next twelve months, a thirty-eight-and-a-half-fold increase in interest rates is going to smack into the economy, even if inflation were to slow to zero and the economy to slow down in the next six months. Which, you might argue, could be problematic in a long list of ways

Should, for example, the RBA have only needed to hike rates to, say, 2% in order to bring down inflation, then theyve rather dramatically overdone the tightening by now. Which would imply they are going to cause a recession, or worse. And, no matter what they do now, that future is baked into the cake for twelve months at least.

Before we explore the implications of this lag a bit more, I better mention what youre probably thinking: why has inflation already turned the corner if it takes so long for monetary policy to work?

The answer is that monetary policy is not the only factor driving prices. A lot of the inflation was from an energy and lockdown price shock. Indeed, the fact that it took inflation so long to spike in the wake of COVID reveals the inherent delay in how these issues unfold.

US house prices peaked in 2006, financial trouble began in 2007, and all hell broke loose in 2008 if I remember correctly. These issues take years to play out, from cause to effect.

This creates a rather challenging situation for policymakers. Imagine having to set todays monetary policy based on what the economy will be like in a years time

Its no surprise they get it so wrong and constantly seem behind the times.

There are plenty of real-world analogies thatll help explain the phenomenon at play here.

Anyone who has driven a narrowboat will be familiar with the delayed reaction on the tiller. It causes beginners to overcorrect back and forth, leaving an embarrassing wake that spells out I dont know what Im doing.......

Tanshinone IIA inhibits triple-negative breast cancer cells MDA-MB-231. "IndyWatch Feed National"

PMID:  Dis Markers. 2023 ;2023:8371623. Epub 2023 Jan 27. PMID: 36741908 Abstract Title:  Tanshinone IIA Inhibits Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells MDA-MB-231 via G Protein-Coupled Estrogen Receptor- (GPER-) Dependent Signaling Pathway. Abstract:  Due to the lack of classic estrogen receptors, there has been a shortage of targeted therapy for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), resulting in a poor prognosis. However, the newly discovered G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) has been found to be expressed in TNBC cells.(Danshen) is an essential Chinese medicine for gynecological disorders, and its component tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) exerts an anticancer effect. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate whether GPER is involved in the inhibitory effect of Tan IIA on TNBC. We applied various databases and GO pathway analysis to predict the possible mechanism of Tan IIA. We identified 39 overlapping targets, including c-Jun, c-Fos, and caspase-3, and enriched cell cycle-related pathways. Next, we demonstrated the strong binding ability of Tan IIA to GPER by molecular docking assay. In the subsequent validation tests, Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8) assay showed that Tan IIA inhibited proliferation of MDA-MB-231 cells time and dose dependently without affecting normal cells. Using Transwell plate, flow cytometry, and Western blot assays, we showed that Tan IIA inhibited migration and induced apoptosis of MDA-MB-231 dose dependently. Importantly, protein expressions of GPER, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK), c-Fos, and c-Jun were all decreased by Tan IIA dose dependently. Administration of GPER inhibitor partly abolished these effects. Furthermore, nuclear translocation of c-Fos and c-Jun as well as cell cycle-related proteins was downregulated by Tan IIA dose dependently. In summary, Tan IIA could inhibit the proliferation and migration of MDA-MB-231 cells and induce apoptosis, and the possible mechanism may be the regulation of GPER-mediated pathways, suggesting that GPER could be a therapeutic target for TNBC.

Dore Destroys Krystal Balls Interview With RFK Jr. "IndyWatch Feed National"

April 19, 2023, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. formally announced his 2024 Democratic presidential campaign.1 Early polls show hes got nearly 20% of the Democratic vote. Unfortunately, Democrat Party officials are doing everything they can to avoid public debates, and their media allies seem hellbent on not giving Kennedy the opportunity to share his views either.

May 17, 2023, Krystal Ball, cohost of the online show Breaking Point, interviewed Kennedy,2,3 or perhaps more accurately, debated him herself. Ball told Kennedy she disagrees with his views on vaccines, and claimed Democratic voters by and large share her opposition. According to Ball, Kennedys vaccine skepticism and antivaccine advocacy is a red line that disqualifies him from holding the highest office.

Antiscientific Shilling for Big Pharma

In the video playlist above, comedian Jimmy Dore of The Jimmy Dore Show dissects Balls hatchet job of an interview, pointing out Balls poor journalism, rudeness and irresponsible, antiscientific shilling for corporate interests.

She repeatedly interrupted Kennedy with Big Pharma talking points putting her own ignorance on public display and didnt allow him to answer her questions. Kennedy asked her to show him where he got things wrong many times, and she deflected with broad generalities.

When Kennedy pointed out that countries with the lowest COVID jab rates had far lower COVID cases and mortality, Ball insisted that there were many other factors that played into that, such as the high rate of obesity in America, and the fact that we dont spend as much time outside in the sun as people in Africa.

Never mind the fact that obesity and sun exposure recommendations were never part of the COVID response. Not only did U.S. health authorities not offer any guidance on reducing obesity, but they closed parks and beaches and told everyone to spend as little time outdoors as possible.

The only solution they provided was the vaccine. If it worked, we ought to have far better outcomes than countries like Africa that didnt follow our COVID response guidelines, like staying indoors and getting jabbed multiple times. But we didnt.

Basically, Ball is admitting seemingly without realizing it that factors such as obesity and sun exposure were more important than the jab, because places with lower obesity rates and greater sun exposure fared better e...

It's Been Three Years. Can You Hear Me Now? "IndyWatch Feed National"

This story is about how to get through to the ones who are still under the "COVID spell." I would also like to poke the most inconvenient elephant in the room, and I would like to do so with love.

"How Do We Get Through to Them?"

In the past three years we have been on a very dramatic roller coaster ride. It is fair to say that we've been through hell. And the most traumatizing and maddening part has been seeing our loved ones succumb to the spell of the "COVID response" and behave like their souls have been stolen off.

For that reason, in our circles, it is very common to ask, "How do we get through to the ones who have acted out of character and who are still under the COVID spell?" First, I am going to answer this question in earnest and then, I am going to go to into the ideological "permafrost" and poke the giant elephant (or a wooly mammoth, rather) hiding there.

Patience Is a Virtue, Alas

There are no magical formulas. We in America are somewhat used to magical formulas, psychological "systems," and impressive consultants riding in on a white horse with a solution and an invoice.

But perhaps, the past three years showed up to strip us of that delusion and to demonstrate to us in the most visceral way that here we are, human beings between the earth and the sky, with a deep longing in our hearts and a clumsy prayer on our lips. And perhaps, that longing in our heart and that imperfect prayer on our lips are all we have and it's a start.

Getting through to ideological addicts is a time-consuming and difficult feat, and we get through by being patient, by not despairing, and by respecting their free will which I think can only be done if there is a total and massive self-love in us, a massive love for them, and a total spiritual confidence in good things.

It is also important to make honest assessments in real time as to when to talk to them and when to let them be, perhaps for a while. Also, prayer helps, and it doesn't have to be an institutional prayer. Prayer is prayer. The Creator is intelligent enough to understand our hearts.

Personally, I believe with passion that the lesson of the past three years is not about how to be better at marketing and arm-twisting than the ones on the dark side. In fact, I think it's not possible to compete in the dark art of bending free will and arm twisting with the ones on the dark side without joining their team.

That's the end of that story, really. If one does not have one's eyes and one's heart on honest healing and free will, and if one is not prepared to do the work but also relax and trust the universe (God, higher powers, however we think about those things) to make things right, one is just merely torturing himself or herself over what he or she cannot very quickly change.

And, if we are on t...

Tanshinone IIA represses the progression of non-small cell lung cancer. "IndyWatch Feed National"

PMID:  Mol Cell Biochem. 2022 Dec 31. Epub 2022 Dec 31. PMID: 36586093 Abstract Title:  Tanshinone IIA (TSIIA) represses the progression of non-small cell lung cancer by the circ_0020123/miR-1299/HMGB3 pathway. Abstract:  Tanshinone IIA (TSIIA), a multi-pharmaceutical compound, has been demonstrated to have anti-tumor properties. This study explores the potential regulatory mechanism of TSIIA on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression. The cytotoxicity of TSIIA was evaluated by MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide) and LDH (lactate dehydrogenase) assays. Expression levels of circ_0020123 (hsa_circ_0020123) and microRNA-1299 (miR-1299) were assessed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis were analyzed by MTT, colony formation, transwell, wound-healing, or flow cytometry assays. The relationship between miR-1299 and circ_0020123 or HMGB3 (high mobility group box 3) was verified by the dual-luciferase reporter and/or RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays. Protein level of HMGB3 was measured by western blotting. The relationship between TSIIA and circ_0020123 was confirmed by xenograft assay. TSIIA reduced xenograft tumor growth in vivo and repressed proliferation, migration, invasion, and facilitated apoptosis of NSCLC cells in vitro. TSIIA reduced circ_0020123 and HMGB3 expression, whereas elevated miR-1299 expression in NSCLC cells. Circ_0020123 knockdown enhanced the repressive influence of TSIIA treatment on the malignancy of NSCLC cells in vitro and in vivo. Circ_0020123 sponged miR-1299 to regulate HMGB3 expression under TSIIA treatment. MiR-1299 inhibitor reversed circ_0020123 knockdown-mediated influence on malignant behaviors of NSCLC cells under TSIIA treatment. HMGB3 elevation offset the suppressive impact of miR-1299 mimic on the malignancy of NSCLC cells under TSIIA treatment. TSIIA curbed NSCLC progression by the circ_0020123/miR-1299/HMGB3 axis, manifesting that the TSIIA/circ_0020123/miR-1299/HMG regulatory network might be a potential treatment strategy for NSCLC.

Tanshinone IIA improves acute gouty arthritis. "IndyWatch Feed National"

PMID:  Dis Markers. 2022 ;2022:5851412. Epub 2022 Dec 19. PMID: 36578443 Abstract Title:  Tanshinone IIA Improves Acute Gouty Arthritis in Rats through Regulating Neutrophil Activation and the NLRP3 Inflammasome. Abstract:  OBJECTIVES: To investigate the prevention and treatment effect of tanshinone IIA (TIIA) on acute gouty arthritis (AGA) and its mechanism.METHODS: The anti-AGA effect of TIIA was observedand. Neutrophils were isolated from the abdominal cavity of mice, and the anti-AGA effect of TIIA was investigated in a rat model of MSU-induced AGA. The pathological changes of the ankle joint tissues were assessed by H&E. Cytokine and chemokine expression were determined by ELISA and RT-qPCR. The NLRP3 inflammasome pathway protein levels in the ankle joint tissues were evaluated via western blotting. Neutrophil migration was evaluated in air pouch and transwell assays. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence analysis evaluate the release of myeloperoxidase (MPO), neutrophil elastase (NE), and citrullination of histone H3 (CitH3). Beclin-1 and LC3B expressions were determined using western blotting and immunofluorescence.. Treatment with TIIA alleviated synovial hyperplasia and neutrophil infiltration, regulated cytokine and chemokine expressions, and inhibited NLRP3 activation in AGA rats, neutrophil migration, MPO, NE, and CitH3 expression, and LC3B and Beclin-1 protein expression.CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrate that TIIA can effectively enhance AGA by focusing on the neutrophils and NLRP3 inflammasome, demonstrating that TIIA may act as a potential helpful agent for AGA.

Salvianolic acid B attenuates hypertrophic scar formation. "IndyWatch Feed National"

PMID:  Aesthetic Plast Surg. 2023 Feb 21. Epub 2023 Feb 21. PMID: 36810832 Abstract Title:  Salvianolic Acid B Attenuates Hypertrophic Scar Formation In Vivo and In Vitro. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic scars (HTSs) are a fibroproliferative disorder that occur following skin injuries. Salvianolic acid B (Sal-B) is an extractant from Salvia miltiorrhiza that has been reported to ameliorate fibrosis in multiple organs. However, the antifibrotic effect on HTSs remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the antifibrotic effect of Sal-B in vitro and in vivo.METHODS: In vitro, hypertrophic scar-derived fibroblasts (HSFs) were isolated from human HTSs and cultured. HSFs were treated with (0, 10, 50, 100mol/L) Sal-B. Cell proliferation and migration were evaluated by EdU, wound healing, and transwell assays. The protein and mRNA levels of TGFI, Smad2, Smad3,-SMA, COL1, and COL3 were detected by Western blots and real-time PCR. In vivo, tension stretching devices were fixed on incisions for HTS formation. The induced scars were treated with 100L of Sal-B/PBS per day according to the concentration of the group and followed up for 7 or 14 days. The scar condition, collagen deposition, and-SMA expression were analyzed by gross visual examination, H&E, Masson, picrosirius red staining, and immunofluorescence.RESULTS: In vitro, Sal-B inhibited HSF proliferation, migration, and downregulated the expression of TGFI, Smad2, Smad3,-SMA, COL1, and COL3 in HSFs. In vivo, 50 and 100mol/L Sal-B significantly reduced scar size in gross and cross-sectional observations, with decreased-SMA expression and collagen deposition in the tension-induced HTS model.CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that Sal-B inhibits HSFs proliferation, migration, fibrotic marker expression and attenuates HTS formation in a tension-induced HTS model in vivo.NO LEVEL ASSIGNED: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each submission to which Evidence-Based Medicine rankings are applicable. The triumph of form over content "IndyWatch Feed National"

Thats all ChatGPT is. Emily Bender explains.

When you read the output of ChatGPT, its important to remember that despite its apparent fluency and despite its ability to create confident sounding strings that are on topic and seem like answers to your questions, its only manipulating linguistic form. Its not understanding what you asked nor what its answering, let alone reasoning from your question + its knowledge to come up with the answer. The only knowledge it has is knowledge of distribution of linguistic form.

It doesnt matter how intelligent it is it cant get to meaning if all it has access to is form. But also: its not intelligent. Our only evidence for its intelligence is the apparent coherence of its output. But were the ones doing all the meaning making there, as we make sense of it.

I think we know this from how we learn language ourselves. Babies dont lie there with their eyes closed processing sounds without context they are associating and integrating sounds with a complex environment, and also with internal states that are responsive to external cues. Clearly what we need to do is imbed ChatGPT in a device that gets hungry and craps itself and needs constant attention from a human.

Oh nosomeone, somewhere is about to wrap a diaper around a server.

America Has a Political Assassination Problem "IndyWatch Feed National"

Kevin Barrett The Unz Review May 27, 2023

Dr. Lucy Morgan Edwards has impeccable establishment credentials (Ph.D International Relations, Exeter; former political advisor to the EU Ambassador in Kabul). Shes calm, sensible, down-to-earth, and blessed with uncommonly good judgment. If the invaders and occupiers of Afghanistan had listened to her, things might have turned out differently. (See her book The Afghan Solution for details).

So why, her establishment ex-colleagues must wonder, does Dr. Morgan-Edwards suspect that Dr. Rashid Buttar, the famous COVID dissident physician, may have been assassinated? Does she really take seriously Dr. Buttars ravings about a COVID vaccine depopulation plot? What could have led her to wander so far off the reservation?

The answer, of course, is that Lucy Morgan-Edwards has experienced the extreme untrustworthiness of todays Western elites first-hand. Given the outrageous mendaciousness and utter corruption of the Western oligarchy and its propaganda-pumping mainstream media, the notion that a faction of Big Pharma biowarriors may have simultaneously developed COVID and mRNA vaccines for nefarious purposes is hardly implausible. Indeed, a fair bit of evidence points in that direction. And when one of the most prominent voices warning of such possibilities, Dr. Rashid Buttar, claimed he was poisoned during an appearance on CNN, and then dropped dead a few months later at age 57, you dont have to be paranoid to wonder whether they might have been out to get him.

It is an article of faith in mainstream media that only crazy people worry about politically suspicious deathsat least in the USA. If an enemy of Putin or Xi or Assad or the Iranian government or any other hostile regime dies suspiciously, we are supposed to automatically assume the worst. But as we all know, politically-motivated assassinations by insiders could never occur in America. Or as Frank Zappa memorably put it, It cant happen here.

How do we know that it cant happen here? Because the CIA told us so! In CIA Document 1035-960, Countering Criticism of the Warren Report, distributed in January 1967 to Agency moles illegally infiltrating the media, we learn that only crazy conspiracy theorists harbor suspicions about such events as the murder of President John F. Kennedy. And since only a conspiracy theorist would care that the CIA invented the wh...

WOKE = Director Using Other Peoples Money for Personal Beliefs "IndyWatch Feed National"

COMMENT: Mr. Armstrong; reading your piece on the unconstitutionality of this Woke Agenda, I must say as a legal expert that you are very accomplished in the law. You would have made one heck of a lawyer.

WY

ANSWER: Thank you. I think we could take it one step further. You might want to consider a class action against the boards of directors PERSONALLY. This is no different than taking other peoples money for personal use. If they put their home gardening on the books and had the company pay those personal expenses on the side, that would be theft. Here they are also violating their fiduciary duty as a board member and using company money to further their own PERSONAL political agenda.

So while hiring people less qualified to fill spots to be able to check a box violates that persons civil rights by engaging now in reverse discrimination, there is also a claim against the directors for using other peoples money for their personal political beliefs. A lawsuit should be brought against them to compel them to refund all the money they have spent on this WOKE agenda.

What if a board suddenly converts to some religion and decides to hand 10% of all profits to that church? Wouldnt that violate their Fiduciary Duty? Where is the SEC when they really should be defending shareholders? There should be a Congressional hearing calling in these people from the SEC. Are they protecting corporate officers like the FBI is protecting Biden?

Write to your Congressman and demand an investigation into the SEC.

Poilievre Reminds Trudeau of His School Sex Scandal "IndyWatch Feed National"

Pierre Poilievre may have momentarily humbled Justin Trudeau after knocking him off his high horse. Poilievre demanded answers regarding inflation in Canada, specifically the growing costs of groceries. Trudeau wants to increase the carbon tax by over C$0.40 cents per liter to C$0.61 cents, guaranteed to increase the costs of essential items at a time when Canadians are already struggling with the increased cost of goods.

Justin Trudeau stated that he began his career as a teacher before entering politics as if he were in tune with the average Canadian citizen and not a nepotism baby with no real qualifications. Poilievre reminded Trudeau that he was clearly not a math teacher and then took it a step further by reminding Trudeau that he was forced to leave his teaching position in the middle of the semester. I am having trouble remembering why, Poilievre stated, receiving a roaring applause.

All Canadians know the scandal. In 2001, the West Point Grey Academy fired Trudeau after he was accused of having numerous relationships with students and potentially a students mother. Trudeau had deep connections due to his last name and was able to conceal the story, claiming he left mid-semester to take up a different career path. They claim there is no evidence against Trudeau, but would anyone want to be in the national spotlight and have their name dragged through the mud? Trudeau groomed his students and then received grooming by Klaus Schwab to become a Young Leader of the WEF. Now this man walks around telling other nations about ethics and morals.

NSW Police have today spoken to the media after the body of a man and a teenage boy were located inside a home at Yamba yesterday.

At about 1.10pm yesterday Thursday 1 June police were called to a property on Kookaburra Circuit, Yamba, after reports two bodies had been found.

The bodies of a 58-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were located inside the property, both suffering gunshot wounds.

While the investigation by officers from Coffs Clarence Police District is in its infancy, police dont believe a third party was involved with few details being released this tragedy appears to be a murdersuicide with a strong possibility that the older man held the weapon.

Ben Roberts-Smith: The Breaking of a Plaster Saint "IndyWatch Feed National"

It was an ugly case lasting five years with a host of ugly revelations. But what could be surprising about the murderous antics of a special arm of the military, in this case, the Australian Special Air Service Regiment, which was repeatedly deployed on missions in an open-ended war which eventually led to defeat and withdrawal?

Ben Roberts-Smith was meant to be a poster boy of the regiment, the muscular noble representative who served in Afghanistan, a war with sketchy justifications. Along the way, he became Australias most decorated soldier, raking in the Medal of Gallantry in 2006, the Victoria Cross in 2010, and a Commendation for Distinguished Services for outstanding leadership in over 50 high-risk operations in 2012. He came to be lionised in the popular press, even being named Father of the Year in 2013.

A number of his colleagues, keen to take him down a peg or two, saw through the sheen. As did journalists at The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Canberra Times. The deployments by the special forces to Afghanistan had not, as the narrative would have it, been paved with heroic engagements of military valour. Roberts-Smith, it seemed, was less plaster saint than ruthless executioner and bully.

Some of the transgressions reported on by the papers were very much of the same type investigated by the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force. The findings were eventually made available in the stomach churning Brereton Report, released in 2020.

But even prior to that, a 2016 report by sociologist Samantha Crompvoets, commissioned by the Special Operations Commander of Australia (SOCAUST), noted body count competitions and the use of the Joint Priority Effects List (JPEL) among special force personnel sent to Afghanistan. The JPEL became what effectively amounted to a sanctioned kill list.
Unsurprisingly, the numbers that were put forth were cooked, often featuring the gratuitous torture and killing of unarmed villagers.

Roberts-Smith, incensed by the reporting, commenced defamation proceedings against the three papers in question, and the journalists Nick McKenzie, Chris Masters and David Wroe. The use of such a civil weapon is often odious, a measure designed to intimidate scribblers and reporters from publishing material that might enlighten. While the defamation laws have been mildly improved since the trials commencement, featuring a public interest defence, the publishers here could only really avail themselves of t...

A deer in the headlights "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

Feral deer are a problem in Queensland and could potentially establish in the Northern Rivers if prompt action isnt taken. Photo supplied.

The Tweed Shire, Byron Shire, and Kyogle councils have joined forces to find out just what is happening with feral deer in the region.

The councils have launched a survey to understand the communitys perception of feral deer, the impacts of feral deer, the presence or absence of feral deer in the Northern Rivers, and the need to control them.

Local feral deer management expert Rachel Hughes, who is managing the survey on behalf of the councils, said feral deer were spreading and it could potentially be a big problem if we dont take action now.

Feral deer are in all states and territories of Australia but they are in largest numbers in the eastern parts of Victoria and NSW, where they are spreading quickly, said Ms Hughes.

For example, in NSW, the 6 species of feral deer now inhabit 22 per cent of the State, where their distribution has spread by 35 per cent since 2016.

Just over the border in Queensland, feral deer are a significant problem and have recently been spotted in front yards, along roads and in suburbia. If we dont act now, it wont be long before they potentially establish in the Northern Rivers too.

Residents asked to fill out survey

Council is urging residents to fill out the new survey with results to be used to formulate integrated management programs to stop the spread and prevent the establishment of feral deer in the Northern Rivers.

Alleged war criminal Ben Roberts-Smith and others should be charged with murder "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Contributed by Ben Wilson

The failure of Ben Roberts-smith to win his defamation case is making big news. For anyone who doesnt know what this is about, Roberts-Smith is the alleged bully and murderer behind the execution unarmed civilians, while serving in Australias armed forces on Afghanistan.

He murders were made pubic by an investigation reported by three newspapers the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age, and the Canberra Times in 2018. Ben Roberts-Smith sued, and the 100 day case ended yesterday (1 June 2023). The judgement went against him.

Roberts-Smith was an officer in the Special Air Service (SAS).

Justice Anthony Besanko found that on a mission to the southern Afghan village of Darwan in 2012, he marched a handcuffed man named Ali Jan to stand above a 10-metre-high cliff that dropped down to a dry riverbed below. The court heard that Roberts-Smith then walked forward and kicked the individual in the chest, and then ordered a subordinate soldier to shoot the man dead.

Photo from the Department of Defence: Australian troops on an operation near Darwan

Another allegation was that on another mission an elderly man and second and younger man with a prosthetic leg, were executed.

It was ruled that on the probability of balance, based on the evidence, the newspapers had established the truth.

There are allegations of further murders and multiple assaults.

An immediate fallout has been the calls to have his uniform removed from the Australian War Memorial. It is there because Ben Roberts-Smith is Australias highest decorated war veteran.

There is no sign yet however, that he is going to be charged and made to face court for murder or anything else. There is not even the promise of a proper investigation. It adds to years of cover up by the military authorities.

Release of the Brereton report in 2020, which found credible evidence that implicated 25 current or former special forces personnel in the alleged unlawful killing of...

Market Talk June 1, 2023 "IndyWatch Feed National"

ASIA:

Chinas factory activity contracted at a faster rate than expected in May, signaling weakening demand and adding pressure on policymakers to support the countrys uneven economic recovery. The official manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) fell to a five-month low of 48.8, below the 50-point threshold that indicates expansion, and lower than the forecasted increase to 49.4. Additionally, the service sector activity expanded at a slower pace in May, with the official non-manufacturing PMI declining to 54.5 from 56.4. These disappointing readings caused Asian financial markets to decline, with the yuan, Australian dollar, and New Zealand dollar weakening, and regional stocks experiencing sharp falls. The PMI subindexes for May highlighted a contraction in factory output and a decline in new orders, including new exports, for the second consecutive month.

There Is No Such Thing as Unrealized Potential "IndyWatch Feed National"

Recently, I asked myself a question:

Am I hopeful that we will reinvent our civilization to handle the existential threats facing us?

This is difficult to answer! I feel extremely hopeful, spry, super inspired by something these days but somehow it isnt connected to our likelihood of surviving the coming catastrophes, individually or as a species. I am not sure that is still a useful way to think about our circumstance, in any case.

I find hope often irritates me. When I think of hope, I recall the 2008 Obama campaign based on hope and change. Once in office, he quickly betrayed the hopes of his progressive base. He pandered to Wall Street, accelerated fracking, and perpetuated various horrific military adventures. Without a firm deadline, hope often seems a selling technique, a postponement device. A way to kick the can down the road.

Hope reminds me of should, another word I find suspect. Whenever someone tells me they should do something, I cringe a bit. Should is the word we use for anything we dont want to do while feeling some vague guilty compulsion to do it anyway. If you feel you should do something, you probably shouldnt, and most likely you wont.

Hope forfeits the present for the future. We gaze toward something better up ahead, via our deeply distorted concept of linear time, for which we should sacrifice not do what we really want now.

Equally problematic, for me, is the word charity. When some wealthy person chooses to donate some of their loot to charity, I cant help but wonder about the rest of their fortune. This, presumably, was amassed with uncharitable, in other words, selfish or greedy intentions. Why didnt they act with good intentions and purposes all along, from the get-go? If they did if everybody did there wouldnt be any need for charity, no reason to give some money away to assuage a bad conscience.

One idea I find clarifying was originally attributed to Hegel (not sure if he actually wrote or even implied this, but if he did, it could be his pithiest one-liner):

There is no such thing as unrealized potential.

This simple idea saves me a great deal of time, energy, and stress. It pushes me to be more present, more complete, with whatever task is at hand. If there is no unrealized p...

Turn Off, Dont Automate, the Killing Machine "IndyWatch Feed National"

By Laurie Calhoun | The Libertarian Institute | May 30, 2023

The quest to develop and refine technologically advanced means to commit mass homicide continues on, with Pentagon tacticians ever eager to make the military leaner and more lethal. Drone swarms already exist, and as insect-facsimile drones are marketed and produced, we can expect bug drone swarms to appear soon in the skies above places where suspected bad guys are said to residealong with their families and neighbors. Following the usual trajectory, it is only a matter of time before surveillance bug drones are upgraded for combat, making it easier than ever to kill human beings by whoever wishes to do so, whether military personnel, factional terrorists, or apolitical criminals. The development of increasingly lethal and creative means to commit homicide forges ahead not because anyone needs it but because it is generously funded by the U.S. Congress under the assumption that anything labeled a tool of national defense is, by definition, good.

To some there may seem to be merits to the argument from necessity for drones, given the ongoing military recruitment crisis. There are many good reasons why people wish not to enlist in the military anymore, but rather than review the missteps taken and counterproductive measures implemented in the name of defense throughout the twenty-first century, administrators ignore the most obvious answer to the question why young people are less enthusiastic than ever before to sign their lives away. Why did the Global War on Terror spread from Afghanistan and Iraq to engulf other countries as well? Critics have offered persuasive answers to this question, above all, that killing, torturing, maiming, and terrorizing innocent people led to an outpouring of sympathy for groups willing to resist the invaders of their lands. As a direct consequence of U.S. military intervention, Al Qaeda franchises such as ISIS emerged, proliferated, and spread. Yet the military plows ahead undeterred in its professed mission to eliminate the bad guys, with the killers either oblivious or somehow unaware that they are the primary creators of the bad guys.

Meanwhile, the logic of automation has been openly and enthusiastically embraced as the way of the future for the military, as in so many other realms. Who needs soldiers anyway, given that they can and will be replaced by machines? Just as grocery stores today often have more self-checkout stations than human cashiers, the military has been replacing combat pilots with drone operators for years. Taking human beings altogether out of the killing loop is the inevitable next step, because war architects focus on lethality, as though it were the only meas...

Drivers of environmental degradation in the Amazon "IndyWatch Feed National"

Why do people clear forest? To anybody who has lived on the forest frontier, the answer is as simple as it is obvious: it is essential to the livelihoods of the regions inhabitants. In some cases, it may be to grow food to feed a family but, more often, people clear forest to generate wealth by selling timber, cultivating a crop or raising livestock. The flow of goods between rural and urban societies is as old as civilization, but in todays global economy the connection between the producer and the consumer is mediated by a supply chain that is complex and not particularly transparent. Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Credit: Rhett Butler. For the last several decades, increases in demand for food and fibre have been met by the expansion of agricultural supply chains into tropical forest wilderness. Producers operating on these landscapes are responding to global demand for the goods they produce; they are acting in their own self-interest to create wealth for their families and jobs for their communities. Many are fully aware that deforestation is a global problem but maintain that they should not bear the cost of conserving biodiversity or fighting global warming, especially when wealthy nations have sacrificed their own forest and polluted the atmosphere in pursuit of economic growth. A common refrain, voiced across economic spectra, is that wealthy nations should assume the cost of forest conservation. Many consumers in wealthy nations are concerned about tropical deforestation, and some express a willingness to pay for conservationThis article was originally published on Mongabay

Indigenous land rights key to curbing deforestation and restoring lands: Study "IndyWatch Feed National"

Indigenous territories with secure land rights not only reduce deforestation inside their lands in the Brazilian Amazon, but also lead to higher secondary forest growth on previously deforested areas, says a new study. This new report, published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is off the back of multiple studies in recent years pointing to the efficiency of Indigenous forest conservation in Brazils Amazon once their territories gain full recognition by the government. According to the report, these territories support higher rates of secondary forest growth than the privately owned and unincorporated lands around them. The secondary forests that grow back after clearing of original old-growth help revive biodiversity and capture carbon, combating climate change. Regenerated forests, also known as secondary forests, attempt to mimic the old-growth forest that was once there and act as carbon sinks, explains environmental and natural resource economist Nilesh Shinde, a postdoc at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a co-author on the paper. Granting tenure to these Indigenous lands in Brazil is not only a really good human rights policy, but its actually a great environmental policy as well, says political scientist Kathryn Baragwanath, now at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne, Australia, and lead author of the study. Land tenure prevents outsiders from entering territories for logging, mining, setting up crop pastures and land-grabbing, and it protects Indigenous traditional ways of life largely based on forest stewardship. Studies show this form of land protection contains some of the most healthy forestsThis article was originally published on Mongabay

FLASHBACK: Gaunt and ghostly, Georgia's jailed ex-president nears death in hospital "IndyWatch Feed National"

Comment: Tthe Guardian puts out a puff piece attempting to rehabilitate a war criminal who among other things, fanned the flames of Ukraine's neonazi coup. While a person's imminent death is tragic, it does not warrant whitewashing his past or abetting his lies. Mikheil Saakashvili warned of Putin's ambitions 15 years ago. Now he tells of torture by a regime that panders to Moscow Locked up in a Tbilisi hospital, Mikheil Saakashvili is slowly wasting away. "I am asking to be transferred to Poland, as it is crystal clear that in Georgian hospital I will die," Georgia's former president wrote in response to questions from the Observer last week. His answers were scrawled in blue ballpoint pen on sheets of paper, passed to his lawyers. Photographs and video of Saakashvili in hospital show him gaunt and confused. A recent report from independent experts suggested his health has deteriorated severely and he will soon face irreversible organ damage. Since his arrest, he says, his weight...

TETRIARY EDUCATION STATE OF PLAY 2023: Australia took 121 years to finally establish national free university education and less than 33 years to totally destroy the idea that tertiary education should be fee free "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

In 1974 the Whitlam Labor Government gave the Commonwealth full control over higher education funding and made a university education free for those who met the educational entrance requirements of tertiary institutions.

In 1976 the Fraser Coalition Government tried to re-introduced tuition fees for post-graduate and second degrees as well as for tuition fees for foreign students with limited success.

However by 1983 the international and national economic climate began to test the resolve of the incoming Hawke Labor Government and in the August 1988 Budget it announced that it would introduce university tuition fees via the Higher Education Funding Act 1988 (HECS).

The scheme was to have only one rate of contribution ($1,800 in 1989) and an up-front payment discount of 15 per cent on tuition fees. Repayment of the HECS debt was to begin once the university graduate began to earn a wage over the compulsory repayment threshold and, any unpaid HECS debts would be discharged on the death of the graduate.

In the following years the Hawke and Keating Labor Governments tinkered with repayment schedules and introduced new schemes based on HECS repayment arrangements for specific groups of students.

However it was during the years of the Howard Coalition Government that the floodgates were fully opened allowing the user pays rationale to begin flooding across higher education. The debt repayment threshold kicked in at a lower annual income and universities were given greater licence to use market forces as a tool in setting course fees, amongst other measures.

The G7 countries demonstrated a Cold War mentality in their attacks on China "IndyWatch Feed National"

The G7 countries demonstrated a Cold War mentality in their attacks on China

The Chinese Foreign Ministry protested to Tokyo over the G7 summits vilification of Beijing and interference in Chinese internal affairs.

The G7 summit, which took place in Hiroshima, Japan, from May 19 to 21, was not without controversy. The leaders of the so-called most industrialized countries have once again demonstrated their exclusivity and pretention to judge everyone and everything. The communiqu produced at the summit drew much attention to China; in particular, the G7 countries expressed worry over Taiwan, the South China Sea, human rights, and the non-market practices of the PRC.

This cavalier attitude on the part of the leaders of the collective West could not have gone unanswered by China. Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong protested to the Japanese ambassador in Beijing over the inflated issues related to China at the G7 summit in Hiroshima. According to a Chinese foreign ministry statement, Japan, which holds the G7 presidency this year, attacked and vilified China along with other countries during the G7 events in Hiroshima as well as in the joint G7 statement. Such gross interference in Chinas internal affairs violates basic principles of international law and harms Chinas sovereignty, security and development interests. In this regard, Beijing expresses its acute discontent and strong protest, the statement stressed.

The Chinese diplomat also noted that the G7 has a confrontational and Cold War camp mentality and its actions violate historical trends, objective facts and international morality. Sun Weidong pointed out that the issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet are exclusively internal Chinese affairs, and no outside forces will be allowed to interfere in any way. Accusations of economic coercion of other countries and creating a debt trap c...

George Soros son has visited the White House at least 17 times since Biden took office, records show "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Joe Schoffstall, Cameron Cawthorne Fox News May 31, 2023

Alex Soros, son of liberal billionaire George Soros, has maintained access to the upper echelons of President Bidens White House and has frequently taken advantage of those channels.

The younger Soros, who chairs the board of directors for his fathers Open Society Foundations network, has now visited the White House at least 17 times since 2021, according to a Fox News Digital review of visitor logs.

Alexs most recent visits include three meetings between February 8th and 10th, records released Tuesday show. The visitor logs list Jon Finer, the principal deputy national security adviser; Jordan Finkelstein, special assistant to the president and the chief of staff for senior Biden adviser Anita Dunn; and Mariana Adame, the adviser to the counselor of the president, as the individuals who greeted Alex.

It remains unclear precisely who Alex may have met with for the sessions, as the records can contain White House staff who book appointments, meet the guests and take them to other personnel.

For example, a White House official confirmed to Fox News Digital in January that two of Alexs past visits were with Ron Klain, Bidens former chief of staff, who was not listed in the records. OSF did not answer questions on the nature of his most recent meetings, and the White House did not respond to an inquiry.

The three most recent visits come on the heels of his 14 prior visits to the White House. And while the younger Soros has taken advantage of the Biden connections, hes also maintained close contact with Democratic lawmakers, which he often boasts about and posts on social media.

Corporate America has launched a religious war: It's time to choose your side "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Bud Light enlists a trans ladyface minstrel to sell beer. Target hires a trans Satanist to design LGBT clothes for kids and starts selling "binding" and "tucking" swimwear. North Face launches a marketing campaign featuring a creepy drag performer hocking LGBT gear to children ages 2 to 7. The Los Angeles Dodgers gives an award to a demonic hate group whose sole purpose is to blaspheme and profane the Catholic faith. All this, and June "pride month" hasn't even begun. What's happening? Why did so many major corporate brands decide to go all-in on promoting an aggressive, radical LGBT agenda that just a few years ago would have been considered totally unacceptable in civil society? Is this a psy-op? Is it real? What happens next? The short answer to these questions is that we've entered a new phase of the culture war, and in some ways have transcended "the culture war" completely. What we're in now is better described as a religious war one that's been launched by corporate...

Will NSW Labor pay on-call emergency service volunteers? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Flooding on Tamarind Avenue, Bogangar. Photo from the Select Committee on the response to Major Flooding across NSW in 2022

The newly elected NSW Labor government have stopped short of committing to paying volunteers who attend emergencies such as fires and floods, but say there is investment and initiatives underway to support those who volunteer as emergency service members.

The Echo asked NSW Emergency Minister, Jihad Dib, During the 2022 floods, emergency services were clearly under-prepared, and it was the community, not the government or Council, who were on the ground immediately helping/saving each other from life threatening situations. It took around a week for any government assistance to arrive.

Given this, will NSW Labor commit to appropriately fund emergency services, so volunteers are paid for being on call, so they are prepared for future events?

The minister replied, The NSW government remains committed to delivering world-class emergency services, and doing everything possible to keep communities safe from natural disasters.

It was always only about power with the left "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Why do so many liberal climate-activist grandees fly on private jets? Or why do those who profited from Black Lives Matter have a propensity for estate living? Or why do the community-activist Obamas prefer to live in not one, but three mansions? The answer is that calls for radical equity, "power for the people," and mandated equality are usually mostly sloganeering for those who enjoy power and the lucre it brings, and their wish is to augment both for themselves. The result is that the issue du jour of mandated equality often becomes secondary if not irrelevant. There is neither fear of inconstancy nor hypocrisy, given the central theme that governs a leftist party line is political utility or the ends of power always more than justify the hypocritical means used to obtain it. Spout racialist nonsense for 40 years? Harass women and young girls by blowing in their hair and squeezing them too tightly? Create a family grifting syndicate to leverage foreign cash in quid pro quo...

We hunted the rabbit "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

I know its not as impressive as the mammoth, but it gives AMAB people an edge in rugby, therefore trans athletes should be banned. So saith Sean Ingle, chief sportswriter for the increasingly transphobic Guardian.

As he repeated many lies about trans women in sport, whether through ignorance or malice, Ingle said, And going back to the start with the science is to have a separate, exclusive, preserved category for natal females with trans women and trans men then going into an open, universal category. And those that support this approach point to the recent science that suggests that even when testosterone is reduced, strength in transgender women only goes down 5%.

Most of that advantage for male puberty is retained. They also point out, and I hear this a lot, that women are not men with lower testosterone. They point out there are thousands of physical differences between males and females, and they arent always obvious.

Females tend to have better peripheral vision than males. Males, in contrast, are quite as fast[sic?] at accurately detecting the trajectory of a moving object. That is, how fast its moving, in which direction its moving, and where its going to be 1 second from now.

Thats helpful when youre trying to chuck a spear at a rabbit. If youre going back to evolutionary biology times, its also helpful when youre trying to intercept a rugby ball. My general view here is that The Guardian should be at the heart of all this and that we should write about the subject fearlessly.

Ah, even sportswriters have absorbed the biases of evolutionary psychology. Now men, not women, have evolved to be better at throwing spears.

These glib comparisons always make me wonder what was being compared in these studies. All women tend to have better peripheral vision than men? What if you compared men, in general, to women tennis players? Is it still true? Isnt it quite likely that peripheral vision, and the ability to calculate trajectories, are plastic and responsive to practice?

Also, how large is the variation within men, and within women? Arent we really dealing with selected subsets of populations, making blanket claims about the aggregate abilities of diverse populations rather problematic?

The whole premise is flawed. It assumes that men of the paleolithic were specifically and exclusively selected for spear chucking, that women of that time had no use for that tal...

Mike Stone Theyre Serious About Making You Eat Insects "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

HenryMakow.com May 30, 2023

You dont think people who hid behind face diapers and face shields are going to say no to a dinner of grasshoppers and cockroaches?

by Mike Stone (henrymakow.com)

Forbes recently ran a piece called Eat Bugs! Its What for Dinner.

Why is a so-called financial magazine promoting bugs for dinner? The answer is conditioning. Its how every organic movement begins. Grass roots is really astro turf.

Conditioning is how the whole tranny movement started. In 2007, Barbara Walters interviewed Jaron Bloshinsky, a ten-year-old boy who claimed to be a girl. That was the first step in getting the public to accept tranny mania. It was followed by a subtle increase in news stories about transsexuals and how they were accidentally born into the wrong bodies. Total nonsense, yet look at where we are today.

Thats how these agendas are pushed. They begin with what looks like a harmless question or an enlightened news story thats put forth by the media in order to gauge public perception. Gradually those stories increase in number until the public is fully conditioned, then the push begins.

Bugs for dinner is the latest thing. Its being heavily promoted by the World Economic Forum, and when Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum says, Jump, the presidents of major countries ask, How high?

Under pressure from the WEF, the European Union has declared meat carcinogenic. Their recommended replacement? Bugs.

Bill Gates has his hands all over eat bugs. Hes a major investor in Beyond Beef, a fake meat company. The more people he can convince to stop eating meat, the more money he will make.

Replacing meat with bugs is an issue that very few people are currently aware of. Mention it, and the average person will laugh out loud and not take you seriously. How blind they are. Like trannyism, they wont see it until a plate of fried cockroaches is staring them right the face.
