A Brief Guide to Product Marketing "IndyWatch Feed National"

Effective product marketing is crucial for the success of any company in todays competitive business landscape. Whether youre looking to sell digital products or provide services, the principles of product marketing can greatly assist you in increasing sales, establishing a trustworthy brand, and developing customer loyalty.

Regardless if youre running a small business or a large corporation, its important to have a solid understanding of product marketing.

In this blog post, we will be diving into the world of product marketing. Well discuss what it involves, how its different from general marketing, the important tasks product marketers handle, and some effective strategies to boost your products success.

How is Product Marketing Different from General Marketing?

Simply put, product marketing is about specificity. Unlike general marketing, which focuses on building broader brand awareness and customer acquisition, product marketing zooms in on a specific product or service. It aims to effectively communicate the value proposition, features, and benefits of a product to the target audience. This is done with the hopes of influencing customer behaviour and increasing product sales.

Here are the key differences between product marketing and general marketing as a whole:

  • Focused audience targeting

Product marketing zeroes in on a specific group of consumers with the aim of understanding their needs, preferences, and pain points. This enables product marketers to create tailored product campaigns that resonate with their target demographic.

  • Product-specific marketing

Through product marketing, you can craft compelling narratives that highlight the unique features, benefits, and value proposition of a specific product. Product-specific marketing aims to differentiate the product from competitors and showcase its particular advantages to the target audience.

What Does a Product Marketer Do?

Product marketers often wear multiple hats and have to work with several other departments within a company.

Here are some of the key responsibilities of product marketers:

  • Market research and cross-functional collaboration

Product marketers conduct thorough market research to understand the target audience, industry trends, and competitive landscape. They gather valuable customer insights, analyse market data, and identify opportunities for product differentiation.

To create a comprehensive go-to-market strategy, product marketers also collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the product management and sales teams. An effective go-to-market strategy might involve defining target segments, setting pricing strategies, identifying distribution channels, and planning promotional activities.

  • Developing product positioning and......

Why doesnt she just leave? Why did you stay? "IndyWatch Feed National"

We hear it said often, especially when there is a high profile domestic violence case in the media.

When  high profile cases of violence against women are in the media, the  air waves fill with outrage, calls to action, compassion, political responses  and inevitably someone somewhere will say: Why didnt she leave? and Why did she go back?.

Those of us who work in  womens domestic  and family violence shelters hear her stories and witness her tears and sometimes are asked to be her voice at a time when just taking the next breath takes a huge amount of energy.

This poem is dedicated to  those women  who are living in domestic violence or have come through it and have had those words asked of them :

Why didnt you just leave?

Im sorry I cant hear you

what did you say?

My ears are blocked and heavy

From  vicious words that have been  hurled my way

There used to be sweet words and promises

and whispered romance in my ears

I now I find myself wondering

Can ears become blocked with all those tears?

Getting rich on their own supply: the housing crisis and capitals supply-side solutions "IndyWatch Feed National"

At precisely the moment that the housing crisis has caused centre-left parties and think tanks to begin proposing price controls on rent, and calling this a democratic question rather than an economic one, the financial world is working to insulate itself from democratic control.

Escaping the ScapeGoat trap "IndyWatch Feed National"

Being a family scapegoat refers to a role or dynamic within a family system where one person is consistently blamed, criticised, or targeted for the familys problems and dysfunctions. The one who receives the eye rolls, plaintive sighs, admonishments and fault finding. The scapegoat can serve to unite a non-communicative family as they highlight the flawed member and extrapolate on their faults whilst not examining their own.

The scapegoat is often seen as the troublemaker or the overly sensitive, too emotional or unreliable one responsible for all the familys issues, while other family members are idealised or considered unflawed and non-problematic by comparison.

This unhealthy family dynamic can have a profound impact on the scapegoats well-being and self-esteem as the scapegoat is frequently the target of unfair accusations, verbal abuse, or emotional manipulation within the family.

They may be blamed for things that are not their fault, held responsible for the actions of other family members, or constantly singled out for their perceived flaws or shortcomings.

For example if the scapegoat speaks out about fa...

Honduras risks losing $11 billion in ISDS case after repealing laws created by authoritarian government "IndyWatch Feed National"

June 30, 2023: US company Prspera has launched a $11 billion dollars Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) claim against Honduras for repealing a controversial law.

ISDS is a mechanism within some trade agreements which enables foreign (but not local) investors to sue governments for millions and even billions of dollars of compensation if they can argue, among other reasons, that a change in domestic law or policy has reduced the value of their investment.

Honduras law, passed by corrupt officials of the post-coup Honduras government, allowed foreign investors to establish Economic Development and Employment Zones (ZEDE). ZEDEs are essentially private cities outside of the jurisdiction of the government which grant investors the power to create their own security forces, governance systems, regulations and separate courts.

The recently elected democratic government has repealed the ZEDE law to ensure that democratic governance applies to these zones. Despite strong public support for the repeal, and the concern over the threat of ZEDEs to democratic protections, Honduras risks losing nearly two-thirds of its national budget if Prsperas case is successful and will have to spend millions defending the case.

You can read more about this case here, or about the dangers of ISDS in AFTINETs updated briefing here.

Northern Territory government steps up support fracking industry "IndyWatch Feed National"

Contributed by Adam Carlton

A new law in the northern Territory which allows fracking companies exploring for gas to start selling before they go through the project approval process is designed to turn this process into a rubber stamp. This law was introduced into the NT parliament in October last year. The state government hopes that this will give rise to the growth of the industry.

The new law, in the form of an amendment to the Petroleum Act, was approved by the parliament last year. Now the claim that the recommendations that the Pepper inquiry has been met is used to encourage companies to make use of the new law. This is a lie. Even though the inquiry had been meant to be a rubber stamp, it did raise a list of needs before a go ahead can be considered. These needs have not been covered, and the green light was given in May.

NT Environment Centre director Kirsty Howie said allowing the sale of exploratory gas before the recommendations were fully completed appeared to weaken the governments commitment to the recommendations of its own Pepper inquiry. Appeared, In this context using the word appeared is a polite way that it has.

Wed been promised by the Northern Territory government that the industry would not move to production until numerous safeguards were in place, she said.

That includes things like offsetting all life cycle emissions produced in Australia from fracking and declaring water allocation plans in the regions to be affected.

Locals opposed to fracking and First Nation communities are not accepting this and gearing up to step up a battle that has already been going on for years. This is especially true for the Beetaloo Basin. Its big underground aquifer is threatened. A dozen test wells have already ben build here. Local community and first Nation opponents, intent of reversing this, have been joined by Northern Territory and across Australia pro-environment organisations.

What are PFAS, and why are these forever chemicals showing up in drinking water? An environmental health scientist explains "IndyWatch Feed National"

Youve probably been hearing the term PFAS in the news lately as states and the U.S. government consider rules and guidelines for managing these forever chemicals.

Even if the term is new to you, chances are good that youre familiar with what PFAS do. Thats because theyre found in everything from nonstick cookware to carpets to ski wax.

PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, which are a large group of human-made chemicals currently estimated to be around 9,000 individual chemical compounds that are used widely in consumer products and industry. They can make products resistant to water, grease and stains and protect against fire.

Waterproof outdoor apparel and cosmetics, stain-resistant upholstery and carpets, food packaging that is designed to prevent liquid or grease from leaking through, and certain firefighting equipment often contain PFAS. In fact, one recent study found that most products labeled stain- or water-resistant contained PFAS, and another study found that this is even true among products labeled as nontoxic or green. PFAS are also found in unexpected places like high-performance ski and snowboard waxes, floor waxes and medical devices.

At first glance, PFAS sound pretty useful, so you might be wondering whats the big deal?

The short answer is that PFAS are harmful to human health and the environment.

Some of the very same chemical properties that make PFAS attractive in products also mean these chemicals will persist in the environment for generations. Because of the widespread use of PFAS, these chemicals are now present in water, soil and living organisms and can be found across almost every part of the planet, including Arctic glaciers, marine mammals, remote communities living on subsistence diets, and in 98% of the American public.

The Environmental Protection Agency issued a health advisory in 2022, warning about their risk in drinking water even at very low levels. PFAS maker 3M, facing lawsuits, announced a...

Alexis Tsipras resigns: lessons for progressives "IndyWatch Feed National"

Following Greeces latest election, after which Alexis Tsipras announced his resignation, a journalist asked me: What conclusion do you draw from this situation? Here is my answer:

The crucial conclusion to be drawn is that radicals are never welcomed for long into the club of the powerful, even if they are willing to betray their principles to serve the powerful well. Tsipras has every reason to feel badly treated by the establishment.

Having imposed on the people of Greece, efficiently and some would add ruthlessly, the policies that he was elected to oppose, he succeeded in stabilising Greece (at the expense, of course, of the majority of Greeks) on behalf of the international oligarchy. To do so, he embraced (in the name of the radical left!) oligarchic policies that even the most fervent political representatives of the oligarchy, when in government, had baulked at introducing. And what did he get for it?

While in government, doing the oligarchys dirty bidding, the establishment accommodated him, throwing his way the odd compliment. But, once the dirty deed was done, the powers-that-be abandoned him going all out in their support of their traditional political representatives the New Democracy party led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the ramp PASOK party. Without a shred of gratitude to their true saviour, Tsipras, they ditched him in an electoral environment where as a result of his own choices he stood no chance of garnering support from the people whom he had subjected to the troikas oligarchic torture.

In short, leftists dallying with betrayal beware: It does not pay!

Slaughtering Americanists on Russian soil has many positives. Yet to begin. Notice zero follow-up by US-NATO.

As a magnet; proven a number of times over the past fifteen months, and the specific deployment of dispensables: as Russia withdrew, the required were bound to follow. As there were no Russian regular ground forces in Ukraine the magnet was by abandonment of the disposables believing they were fighting to defend mother Russia.

The delusion would naturally extend to the belief of popular support. Their abandonment being explained by a lack due to bureaucratic corruption.

Russia controls The Persian Gulf, The Suez Canal, and the territory east of Poland. It uses Iran and North Korea to toy with America. Together with China: it controls the worlds major sea lanes. Together with Saudi Arabia, it controls the worlds energy supplies.

It ensured that America always has an excellent supply of drugs of addiction. The least they could do. Clintons, Bidens, and Obama were excellent strategic purchases.

And all this while Americas own frauded and tokenized administrative power levers attack its own, and sponsor world-shattering agendas as; DEI, climatism, racism, sexism, abortion, child mutilation, and the economy-busting dead end of a green and renewable delusion to nowhere.

Meanwhile in Other News Ukraine Proxy War Is an Unmitigated Disaster for U.S./NATO "IndyWatch Feed National"

Strategic Culture.org June 30, 2023

The Ukraine proxy war against Russia can be increasingly seen as a disastrous defeat for the United States and NATO. That stunning outcome should be making world headlines. Instead, the Western media spin machine is in overdrive about a failed mutiny in Russia, which on an objective scale of important events is relatively minor compared with the colossal U.S./NATO scandal.

A month-long Ukrainian counteroffensive has failed to make any dent in Russias defenses despite billions of dollars and euros in weaponry funnelled to the Kiev regime by the NATO bloc. That is a veritably astounding calamity and scandal. The completely unnecessary death and destruction are obscene akin to World War One slaughtering by callous armchair generals and politicians.

Even Western officials and the corrupt money-grubbing Kiev regime are coyly admitting that the much-vaunted counteroffensive that had been hailed for months as an expected hammer blow against Russian forces is a failure. Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers as well as NATO special forces covertly on the ground have been killed. Hundreds of tanks and infantry vehicles have been pulverized by superior Russian firepower.

It is a slaughter and orgy of war racketeering that American and European political elites, along with their media servants, have endlessly promoted.

There will be hell to pay for the American and European rulers who have staked everything on their nefarious ambition for the strategic defeat of Russia (under the specious guise of defending democracy in a Nazi regime!)

The political consequences for U.S. President Joe Biden will make his Afghanistan withdrawal debacle in 2021 look like a picnic as presidential elections loom next year.

As for the European Union, whose leaders have slavishly followed Washingtons folly in Ukraine, the repercussions of economic and political chaos will fatally undermine this already teetering entity.

Ultimately, theres no getting away from the impending seismic geopolitical crisis, no matter how much the Western elitist mis-rulers twist and squirm to avoid accountability.

The tumult from the Prigozhin affair in Russia over the last week, which saw a mutiny attempt by the chief of the Wagner private military company, came at a convenient time for the U.S. and EU. It momentarily distracted from the unmitigated disaster that Washington and its NATO allies have created in Ukraine. But as the Prigozhin charade dissipates, the focus will rightly turn to the far bigger scandal of Western-led defeat in Ukraine.

Who will answer for the countless lives lost, the millions of displaced, and the American and European economies and livelihoods thrown into disarray? All of the Western so-called leaders, as well as the shameless war-propagandizing media outlets, are a rogues gallery that will face searing scrutiny...

Morning Star assesses The Palestine Laboratory "IndyWatch Feed National"

The British newspaper Morning Star positively reviews my new book, The Palestine Laboratory, in an article written by Bob Newland:

This book, dedicated in solidarity with the Palestinians and Israelis fighting for a just future is a very effective contribution to that cause.

An outstanding work of investigative journalism, it exposes the close links between Israel, the US and repressive regimes throughout the world.

It catalogues extensively how Israel has developed its arms industry through the occupation of Palestinian lands and promoted it through decades of suppression of Palestinian rights.

Loewenstein grew up in Australia, the child of refugees from Nazi Germany. As he studied Israel he came to believe that the policies of the state of Israel represent a threat to its Jewish population rather than offering a safe haven.

He became an avid supporter of Palestinian rights and an opponent of apartheid Israel.

After four years (2016-20) living in East Jerusalem, he is convinced that a two-state solution is no longer viable that the security of the Jewish people in Israel can only be served by a one-state solution where all its citizens can live equally.

Loewenstein focuses on the commercialisation of an extreme form of nationalism. This is powerfully represented by Benjamin Netanyahus right-wing zionist coalition which protects corruption, exports repression and seeks to establish Israel as an exclusively Jewish state by expelling the remaining Palestinians and colonising their lands.

Word-Salads, their use and Coercive Control "IndyWatch Feed National"

The spotlight that is now shining on the Pentecostal Church alongside of a growing understanding about religious coercive control, and the psychological and emotional manipulation in high demand religious groups, cults and personal development groups is very timely. At no other time in history have unsuspecting people become a target for recruitment through digital devices, on line forums and e-marketing whilst sitting at home on the computer, unaware that the interesting group / person /community they have started to follow maybe a cult.

The term word salad is often used by researchers and educators to describe one of the psychological tactics that charismatic leaders used to draw people in, and then to keep them engaged and mesmerised.

Emotions Are Not Bad Behavior "IndyWatch Feed National"

From The Natural Child Project/Robin Grille: One of the most commonly heard parental laments is about how children try to get attention. So many behaviors that adults dont like are brushed off as merely attention-seeking devices. Dont worry about him, we say, he is just doing it to get attention.

When children use oblique ways to get attention, such as causing a ruckus, exaggerating or feigning their hurts, picking on other children, showing off, being coquettish they risk being ignored or put down, as nearby adults roll their eyes in exasperation. Sometimes, this also happens to children even when they directly and openly call for the attention they crave. Instead of scorning the child, why dont we ask these questions: When a child is being manipulative, instead of direct, how did he learn to do this? How did he come to feel that he shouldnt openly ask for a hug, an answer to his question, sympathy or just to be noticed or played with?

All children begin their lives with complete frankness about their needs. Babies and toddlers reveal their longings with no compunction: what you see is what you get. If a child reaches out for attention and for warmth and she gets it, her ability to be open and directly assertive is reinforced. By begrudging our childrens healthy attention-seeking behaviors, we unwittingly train them to be indirect. We leave them little room for much else, so they go for the attention they need and deserve through the back door.

Our society tends to consider childrens needs for attention as a bother. No wonder children become indirect attention seekers, some even going to great lengths to fall ill or get injured in order to be noticed. Children who have too often been denied attention can become insatiable, as if no amount of limelight ever fills their cup. Attention is life-giving, a basic need and a human right. Children deserve all the attention they want.

When you wholeheartedly give a child the attention she asks for from the beginning, she soon has her fill. This is precisely what helps her to become more autonomous. As she grows, she asks for less of your attention (research shows that well-attached babies grow into children who are more independent), and when she does want attention, she asks directly, boldly and clearly.

Punished for feeling

Time and time again children are heavily reprimanded for committing the offence of crying or being angry. Lets get this straight: emotions are not bad behavior. Emotions dont hurt anyone. Suppressing childrens emotions does, on the other hand, cause them harm: over time, if done repeatedly, it unbalances their brain chemistry, it stresses their immune and digestive systems, and it undermines their ability to relate to others.

Emotional censorship starts early. One of the most common thin...

Unseasonable rain continues to fall across Australia's north, helping lower temperatures to near-record levels "IndyWatch Feed National"

Unseasonable rain continues to fall across Australia's north in what's meant to be the region's dry season, helping lower temperatures to near-record levels. The surprise soaking is forecast to last at least another five days, gradually shifting from the Kimberley and Northern Territory this weekend, to Queensland and New South Wales next week. Here's what's going on. Why is it raining in the dry season? The cause of the rare winter rains can be traced back to two pools of cold polar air, which earlier this week moved north through WA and caused a dramatic change in the winds blowing over Australia. These rivers of winds are known as jet streams, which blow about 10 kilometres above the earth's surface and form the boundary between relatively warm and cold air.

The French Riots "IndyWatch Feed National"

QUESTION: Martin,

You said to watch France and an early warning indicator. Might Europe be on the precipice?

My family, friends, and I thank you for everything that you do.

Best wishes,

JC
ANSWER: What we are watching in France is far more than simply a police shooting of a 17-year-old youth. The New York Times reported that in subsequent years, several beatings by the police and deaths in custody led to minor protests. This appears to be cumulative, but economic stagnation is eating away at Europe. While the overall unemployment rate in France is about 7%, the youth unemployment rate of ages 15 to 24 remains over 20%. This is a direct source of the unrest. All civil unrest is ALWAYS rooted in economics. A simple correlation between the global economy and economics reveals the source.

The danger is that as the economic conditions of Europe get worse with all the insane regulation for Climate Change that is reducing food production to eliminating jobs, all for a theory pushed by the WEF to create a new world of totalitarian order, we see hostility rising not just internationally, but also domestically and this can spread as a contagion throughout the EU. You cannot destroy the livelihood of so many people without dire consequences. This is partly why they also want the international war to divert attention from their failed climate change agenda.

The recent events in France are an uncanny repeat of the youth/racial riots of the autumn of 2005. That is when two youngsters of Arab origin were electrocuted while trying to escape arrest by the French police. This time, two police officers shot a juvenile of Algerian origin as he tried to escape in a stolen car. The evidence that surfaced showed that the police officer was in no d...

Australia is first nation to allow doctors to prescribe MDMA, psychedelics for PTSD, depression "IndyWatch Feed National"

Starting July 1, Australia will allow doctors to prescribe MDMA and magic mushrooms to treat PTSD and depression. It's a worldwide first that comes as research uncovers how psychedelic drugs have real potential for treating mental health conditions. "Australia is creating an interesting model that could pave the way forward for the rest of the world," Dr. Michael Alpert, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School, told ABC News. Comment: The West, perhaps, but it seems the multipolar world is at least, first, attempting to improve the lives of its citizenry. MDMA is a synthetic hallucinogen, often linked to rave parties, that's also known as "molly" or "ecstasy." According to the new rules established by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration, MDMA can be prescribed only to treat post-traumatic stress disorder by authorized psychiatrists. Psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, will only be prescribed to treat depression that hasn't responded to other therapies.

Four Ways to Save Money While Eating Healthy "IndyWatch Feed National"

Everyone knows that a healthy diet is good for our physical and mental well-being. Balanced eating habits can help us live longer, help us feel more energised, and it can even help us look good.

However, when people start to feel financial pressure, healthy foods are usually the first thing to go. When under financial stress, a lot of people often neglect their health for the sake of money and convenience.

While its important to save money wherever you can, its just as important to keep our bodies strong and healthy through proper eating habits.

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to save money on groceries without having to sacrifice your health. To help you out, here are four easy ways to save money on food.

Make a Weekly Meal Plan

A study that examined secondary school students across Australia found that being in a lower socio-economic area is associated with frequently consuming fast food. Additionally, the study reported that students who go to fast food chains with their family were more likely to go on a weekly basis. NobleOak, an Australian insurance company, reported that convenience and pricing were two of the most prominent reasons for this behaviour.

Based on the findings of these studies, it would make sense to create a weekly meal plan. Properly planning your meals in advance can help you save money in the long run as it reduces the amount of wasted food throughout the week. Moreover, it also reduces the need to drive to various locations for food. This means less trips to grocery stores and restaurants which then leads to less money spent on gas.

Additionally, by preparing your food in advance, you may become less tempted to eat fast food for conveniences sake. If you already have food thats ready to eat in the fridge, it will be a lot easier to pass on that trip to your local burger joint.

#Gaslighting is a manipulative tactic used by individuals, including some religious and. cult leaders, to undermine the beliefs and perceptions of others.

In the context of religious coercive control, here are ten examples of gaslighting phrases that may be used to dominate the belief system, thoughts, and actions of targeted individuals:

  1. Youre just not spiritual enough to understand. This phrase dismisses any doubts or questions an individual may have by implying that their lack of understanding is due to a personal failing rather than valid concerns.
  2. God revealed to me that youre under the influence of evil. By claiming divine insight, the cult leader suggests that any disagreement or resistance against their teachings is a result of external evil forces acting upon the targeted individual.
  3. Your doubts are a sign of weak faith. This phrase aims to discourage critical thinking and self-reflection, dismissing any legitimate concerns or challenges to the cult leaders /pastors teachings as a lack of faith.
  4. If you leave, youll lose your salvation. Cult leaders may use fear-based tactics to prevent individuals from leaving, suggesting that leaving the group or questioning their authority will lead to eternal damnation or separation from God.( The all powerful Father figure).
  5. Only I can interpret the true meaning of the scriptures, you need to trust me. By asserting exclusive interpretive authority, the cult leader discourages independent study or alternative perspectives, maintaining control over the followers understanding of religious texts.
  6. Your family and friends are trying to lead you astray they dont understand /they are not saved like you are. Cult leaders may isolate individuals by discrediting their relationships outside the group, creating an us versus them mentality that further entrenches loyalty to the leader.
  7. Your negative experiences are a test from God. This phrase minimises any negative experiences or abuses suffered within the group, suggesting that they are part of a divine plan or a test of faith that must be endured.
  8. Youre sinful, if you leave, youll never find salvation elsewhere. Cult leaders may instil a sense of guilt or shame in individuals, making them believe that they are unworthy of seeking freedom or finding spir...

The Pentecostal Church and Religious Trauma "IndyWatch Feed National"

Understanding Religious Vicarious Trauma and Identifying Religious Coercive Control: A Closer Look at the Pentecostal Church

In recent times, the mainstream media has brought attention to the Pentecostal church, shedding light on certain aspects that warrant further discussion and how to spot the warning signs.

I was working in the area of domestic violence and coercive control when a young family member was targeted for indoctrination on a youth camp, which is one of the most common practices in the recruitment process. Over the many years that she remained under the Pentecostal spell, I spoke out about what was clearly psychological and religious coercive processes. This created a great deal of conflict in relationships in my family and if this has happened to you it is important to know that feeling powerless, and unable to intervene, is very common vicarious trauma symptom in response to how high demand religions organise themselves.

I have written about how to recognise Spiritual Gaslighting here: https://carolom.wordpress.com/2023/07/01/spiritual-gaslighting-by-religious-cult-leaders/

Indoctrination-It begins with connecting with the kids in their high school settings so it is important to have a clear understanding with the school about their high school chaplaincy program to see if Pentecostal recruiters are able to have access to children without accountability structures in place.

It is common practice for the youth pastors to #lovebomb the kids in isolated camps settings where they skilfully apply Pentecostal practices of conducting rapidly changing psychological and emotional states in group settings, putting the teenagers (minors) through emotionally vigorous, mind altering worship, prayer, tears, arms raised leading to commanding them to give their life to Jesus, which usually includes the pastor who has indoctrinated them.

I have provided insights into how young people can be targeted for indoctrination on youth camps and potential tools for the recovery process for families when a member escapes a high-demand religion like the Pentecostal church or a cult.

Religious Vicarious Trauma: Religious vicarious trauma refers to the psychological and emotional distress experienced by individuals who are indirectly exposed to traumatic events through their association with a religious group or community.

It occurs when individuals witness or hear about traumatic experiences that others within their religious c...

The Most Compelling Cases Against The Death Penalty Are Often The Condemned Inmates Themselves "IndyWatch Feed National"

Obviously, one of the biggest problems with the death penalty is that if you get it wrong and they do occasionally get it wrong you cant take it back. Just ask the family of Cameron Willingham.

But another far less acknowledged problem is that on countless occasions, US states have ended up executing people who, by all any fair measure, are rehabilitated.

In 2001, in the course of a robbery, 25-year-old Jedediah Murphy kidnapped a 79-year-old woman, Bertie Lee Cunningham, before executing her in the trunk of her car. Murphy a product of Texas foster care system was caught and confessed to his crime.

The video below is part of an ongoing project from Houston MediaSource, which gives voice to prisoners awaiting execution on Texas infamous Death Row, a state where they take pride in killing prisoners regardless of their rehabilitation status, and sometimes even their guilt or innocence.

Murphy is scheduled for execution in October 2023. His insights in this interview are profound and moving, and should be required viewing for anyone who supports the death penalty.

As Murphy himself says: Be part of someone elses redemption, dont be part of their destruction.

You can read a petition for a writ of certiorari (a request for the US Supreme Copurt to review Murphys case) here.

Pope Francis Meets With Family Of Julian Assange "IndyWatch Feed National"

Pope Francis has met with the family of imprisoned WikiLeaks founder and Australian publisher and journalist Julian Assange in a private audience in the Vatican.

Stella Assange, along with her children Max and Gabriel, and her mother and brother, met with Pope Francis on Friday.

In an interview with Associated Press, Stella Assange said she was grateful for the meeting.

[Pope Francis] has provided great solace and comfort and we are extremely appreciative for his reaching out to our family in this way, Ms Assange said. He understands that Julian is suffering and is concerned.

I have a lot of faith that the situation will change, and there are a lot of people around the world, from all parts of the world here and elsewhere, who are trying to get justice and see freedom for my husband.

Overnight, Julians brother Gabriel Shipton tweeted his appreciation at Pope Francis meeting with the family, noting his response was wildly different to that of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

https://twitter.com/GabrielShipton/status/1674754763651690496

Today Pope Francis in a show of care, compassion and humanity met with Julian Assanges family Stella Assange, her children, mother and brother. I couldnt help thinking back to last month when Stella was in Australia, Julians home, and the Prime Minister refused to meet her.

Assange remains jailed without charge in Britains Belmarsh Prison, as his lawyers fight his extradition to the United States for alleged breaches of the US Espionage Act. The charges relate to Assanges involvement with Chelsea Manning, a former US soldier who leaked Assange a trove of classified documents in 2010, including the infamous Collateral Murder video, which revealed US military targeting and killing innocent people, including journalists, in Iraq.

Assange has been effectively under arrest for more than a decade, after seeking asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012. He remained there until 2019, when he was arrested by police after a new government in Ecuador revoked his asylum. Assange was jailed for a year for breaching earlier bail conditions, and has since been held without charge while he awaits a legal challenge to a US extradition warrant.

Judge Rules Texas DPS Must Release Withheld Documents Related to the Uvalde School Shooting "IndyWatch Feed National"

A state district judge this week ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to begin the process of releasing records related to the May 2022 Uvalde school shooting that the agency has shielded from the public for over a year.

The decision by 261st Civil District Court Judge Daniella DeSeta Lyttle marks a win for a coalition of news organizations, including ProPublica and The Texas Tribune, which sued the agency in August. The lawsuit sought the release of records that would bring more clarity to law enforcements failed response, including emails, video footage, call logs, emergency communications and forensic records.

The public deserves a full accounting of what happened that day, and were glad that the judge has begun that process, said Reid Pillifant, an associate attorney with Haynes Boone, a law firm that represents the news organizations. Were hopeful DPS wont fight this decision, and well begin the process of providing transparency.

DPS did not directly answer the newsrooms questions, including whether it plans to appeal the courts decision. In a statement emailed to ProPublica and the Tribune on Friday, a spokesperson for the agency said that the litigation is ongoing and that the department will carefully consider its options when a Final Judgment is entered.

Lyttle instructed DPS to submit a detailed list of redactions it wants to make to the public records by Aug. 31. The judge said that the court...

PMID:  Zhonghua Yi Xue Za Zhi. 2023 Mar 7 ;103(9):689-695. PMID: 36858370 Abstract Title:  [Study on protective effects and mechanisms of total glucosides of Paeony on Graves disease in BALB/c mice]. Abstract:  To investigate the protective effect and its immunoregulatory mechanism of Total Glucosides of Paeony (TGP) against Graves' Disease (GD) model on BALB/c mice.Fifty female (6 weeks old, weighing 16-18 g) BALB/c mice of specific pathogen free were divided into control group according to random number table method, model group, early low-dose TGP intervention group (250 mgkgd), early high-dose TGP intervention group (500 mgkgd), and late TGP intervention group, with 10 mice in each group. Except the control group, the other 4 groups were immunized 3 times (0, 3, and 6week) with recombinant adenovirus expressing the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) A subunit to establish the GD model. The early low-dose and high-dose intervention group were given diets containing different doses of TGP throughout the whole process, and the late intervention group was given diets containing low doses of TGP from the 1week after the 2immunization (week 4). The levels of thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb) and total thyroxine (TT4) were detected in the tail venous blood of mice at the 4week. At the 10week, the serum TRAb and TT4 levels and the ratio of regulatory T cells (Treg) in each group were detected, and the pathological changes of thyroid tissue were observed. Serum helper T cell 1(Th1) and Th2 cell-related factors interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-12p70, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interferon-(IFN-) and tumor necrosis factors-(TNF-) were detected to investigate the protective effect of TGP on GD model in BALB/c mice and its mechanism. At the 4week, The level of TT4 [(55.0712.89)g/L] in early high-dose intervention group was lower than that in model group [(74.338.63)g/L] (all0.05). TRAb level of mice between early low-dose, early high-dose, late intervention groups and model group was no significant difference (all>0.05). At the 10week, TRAb [(90.0026.89) U/L] and TT4[(32.668.11)g/L] levels in the early high-dose intervention group were lower than those in the model group [(396.9795.35) U/L, (73.7016.33)g/L] (all0.05). The thyroid tissue of hyperthyroidism mice in the early high dose intervention group showed focal hypertrophic changes, while the thyroid tissue of other hyperthyroidism mice showed diffuse hypertrophic changes. The CD4CD25/CD4Treg ratio in early high-dose intervention group was higher than that in model group at the 10week (4 weeks after three recombinant adenovirus immunization) (

SOTT FOCUS: America has Just Destroyed a Great Empire "IndyWatch Feed National"

Herodotus (History, Book 1.53) tells the story of Croesus, king of Lydia c. 585-546 BC in what is now Western Turkey and the Ionian shore of the Mediterranean. Croesus conquered Ephesus, Miletus and neighboring Greek-speaking realms, obtaining tribute and booty that made him one of the richest rulers of his time. But these victories and wealth led to arrogance and hubris. Croesus turned his eyes eastward, ambitious to conquer Persia, ruled by Cyrus the Great. Having endowed the region's cosmopolitan Temple of Delphi with substantial silver and gold, Croesus asked its Oracle whether he would be successful in the conquest that he had planned. The Pythia priestess answered: "If you go to war against Persia, you will destroy a great empire." Croesus therefore set out to attack Persia c. 547 BC. Marching eastward, he attacked Persia's vassal-state Phrygia. Cyrus mounted a Special Military Operation to drive Croesus back, defeating Croesus's army, capturing him and taking the opportunity...

Sounds of the soil: A new tool for conservation? "IndyWatch Feed National"

For Jake Robinson, Greno Woods was an easy choice. This large, old forest in South Yorkshire county in the U.K. has historically undergone timber harvesting, quarrying and fires. Plantations of non-native conifers replaced parts of the forest several decades ago. At the same time, restoration efforts have tried to revive some of the degraded and deforested areas through the planting of native broadleaved and deciduous trees. This setting presented a unique opportunity: to listen to the sounds of restoration. Robinson, a microbial and restoration ecologist at Flinders University in Australia, was particularly interested in two types of area in the forest: sites that had been cleared in the past three years, and previously deforested plots that restorers had planted with native trees more than 30 years ago. Aboveground, the differences between the two were easy to spot. The recently cleared plots were mostly covered by bracken (Pteridium aquilinum), with a sprinkling of silver birch saplings (Betula pendula). By contrast, the restored areas had more diverse trees, including English oak (Quercus robur), sessile oak (Q. petraea), rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) and silver birch, along with a complex understory of bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), bramble (Rubus fruticosus agg.), holly (Ilex aquifolium) and bracken. Field recording in Greno Wood. Sound can be used as a proxy in some cases listening to soil can indirectly show whats happening belowground without having to overturn every inch and disturb the denizens of the dirt. Mysterious spiral-shaped signals detected in the human brain "IndyWatch Feed National"

There are many layers to the human brain. From its wrinkled exterior to its darkest depths, scientists are trying to understand them all. But in honing in on the brain's intricate neural circuitry, they appear to have overlooked patterns of activity swirling on the surface. A team of fluid physicists from the Universty of Sydney in Australia and Fudan University in China discovered brain signals rippling across the brain's outermost layer of neural tissue, the cerebral cortex, on scans of 100 young adults' brains. Signals naturally arranged as spirals, like vortices in a draining bathtub or whirlwinds of turbulent air. "Gaining insights into how the spirals are related to cognitive processing could significantly enhance our understanding of the dynamics and functions of the brain," says senior author Pulin Gong, a physicist at the University of Sydney.

In the Service of Israel: Biden Admin Breathes New Life Into Trumps Abraham Accords "IndyWatch Feed National"

H.R. 3099 was Introduced in the House of Representatives on May 5, 2023. This bill, known as the Special Envoy for the Abraham Accords Act, is the latest act by the United States in the service of Israel.

This bill establishes the position of Special Envoy for the Abraham Accords within the Department of State. For anyone who does not remember, the Abraham Accords are agreements to normalize relations between Israel and Arab states that do not recognize Israel. It is an anti-Palestinian accord more than anything. It should be named a bill to guarantee that governments who go against the wishes of their people and are willing to turn their backs to the plight of the Palestinian people will be rewarded.

The first four members of the Arab League to sign this accord were the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan. The initial signing took place in the White House during the Trump administration, and it should be noted that President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu were the only heads of state present. The other countries sent their foreign ministers, ostensibly so as not to be seen signing this disgraceful agreement. It is worth noting that there was extensive widespread opposition to normalizing relations with Israel in all countries that signed the accords.

A US ambassador in the service of Israel

According to the bills text, the Special Envoy, who shall have the rank and status of ambassador, shall serve as the primary advisor to the U.S. government for expanding and strengthening the Abraham Accords. The duties of the Special Envoy include:

Encouraging countries without diplomatic relations with Israel to establish formal diplomatic, economic, security, and people-to-people ties;
Expanding and strengthening existing relationships between Israel and Muslim-majority countries; and
Coordinating efforts across the U.S. government and engaging diplomatically with foreign governments, nongovernmental organizations, and other stakeholders to expand and strengthen the Abraham Accords.

The language in the bill demands that we ask why in the world is the U.S. government engaged in serving the interests of Israel so blatantly. Indeed, the U.S. will be selling arms to these countries, but a larger picture here is not being discussed, at least not enough. You have to hand it to Israel and even more to the Israeli lobby here in the U.S.: They got a superpower to work as Israels sales agent and pay for it. American taxpayers will now be paying additional millions of dollars to solicit or rather bully countries who have not yet established relations with Israel to do so. Is this the best use of American taxpayer dollars? Does this serve Americans in any way? The answer to both questions is No!...

RFK Jr. Poses Grave Threat to Biden in a GOP Primary "IndyWatch Feed National"

Can Robert F. Kennedy Jr. mount a serious primary challenge against President Joe Biden? That is the question on everybodys mind following a poll earlier this month showing Kennedy with a very robust favorability rating. And, after crunching the numbers, we have a definitive answer: Yes. If the two competed for the Republican nomination, RFK Jr. would be a formidable opponent for Biden.

Just last night, both Sean Hannity and Bill OReilly, two stalwarts of right-wing blowhardiness, raised the possibility that the son of Democratic icon Bobby Kennedy could upset the incumbent president.

They are absolutely correct. In a GOP primary, Kennedys high favorability among voters of Donald Trump would probably carry the day for him. That is especially true because Republicans do not like Joe Biden.

A whopping 61 percent of Trump voters have a favorable opinion of Kennedy. That is higher than the favorability ratings of Mike Pence (not surprisingly), Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, and Vivek Whateversmarmy.

As it turns out, only two presidential candidates have a higher favorability score among Republicans than Kennedy and neither of them is named Joe Biden.

In fact, the president languishes at the bottom of the Republican primary field with a favorability score of five percent and, lets face it, the handful of Trump voters who said they liked him were probably drunk, high, or didnt understand the question.

This is just more evidence that it would be a very bad idea for Biden to enter the GOP primary as he would be an underdog not just against Kennedy but also just about everybody else.

And, in a head-to-head matchup with RFK Jr. for the Republican nomination, Biden would get crushed.

There are two reasons for that: First, there is a multibillion-dollar right-wing propaganda machine that has been painting Biden as a (senile...

NSW Police Force is Brutalising Citizens Without Sufficient Records, Let Alone Accountability "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The recent lethal tasering of 95-year-old great-grandmother Clare Nowland, who was holding a steak knife and suffering dementia, has again brought into stark relief the use of excessive force by NSW police: an issue that despite its prevalence, tends to gradually subside until the next incident.

With this incident, however, there wasnt time to sweep the issue under the carpet, prior to some NSW police officers shooting Steven Pampalian, a North Willoughby man, who was standing on a suburban street holding two chef knives on 25 May: the day after Nowland passed away in hospital.

Whilst it was uncertain if Pampalian was having a mental health incident when he was shot four times, this years inquest into the 2019 shooting death of Todd McKenzie has shown it was clear officers were aware he was having a schizophrenic episode alone in his home when they shot him.

The excessive use of force by police is by no means limited to lethal incidents, however. And there are numerous examples, including an eyewitness account of officers kettling a group of protesters into a corner before dousing them with capsicum spray after a Black Lives Matter rally in June 2020.

a natural community has to sort out both types of economy in order to function from a general consensus that is not simple or just a majority vote. it also needs to avoid the quick fix of big man governance which is only viable in crisis mode.  Marxism as an intellectual mode is way too simplistice to tackle either economy which ultimately needs the Rule of Twelve.

Brisbane climate activists get bail "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

Brisbane climate activists Andy and Max appeared in Brisbanes Supreme Court this morning after being remanded during Blockade Australias actions last week.

Both have received residential bail conditions and they are expected to be released shortly.

A Blockade Australia spokesperson said that in court, Justice Davis condemned the prosecutions submission to not engage in unlawful protest, and to not attend meetings, rallies or protests.

He commented, in response to the prosecutions claims, that He (Max) is a political activist. They are not a flight risk. They are standing and making their points.

It is difficult when you try and distinguish between what is lawful and unlawful protest. The High Court of Australia has made a ruling protecting the right to engage in protest.

The Blockade Australias spokesperson said that Justice Davis went on to allude to the mistakes of the Joh Bejolke Peterson era, in the 1980s, during which many activists were jailed for participating in protest. The Peaceful Assemblies act was passed in 1992 to protect the right to publicly assemble and protest.

Malicious Attacks on Chinas Patriotic Education Law Aim to Weed Out Patriotism

By Global Times

Jun 29, 2023 09:18 PM

Imagine if a government were to introduce legislation against drug dealing, who would feel the most frightened and troubled? The most likely answer would be drug dealers. In the case of China's recent legislative push for the spirit of patriotism in the country, some forces have exposed themselves as those "drug dealers."

This week, a draft patriotic education law was submitted to China's National People's Congress Standing Committee for its first reading. Several external voices subsequently attempted to give such an effort a bad name in different ways. Some criticized the draft for "brainwashing younger generations," some said it was "forcing people to love tyranny," and others saw it as a way to "suppress dissent."

Patriotic education is an important component of national education in almost all countries. If we observe the global scenario, we will find that it is a common practice in many nations to promote and guarantee patriotic education through the rule of law.

For example, a study reveals that the US has more than 600 laws and regulations and more than 1,700 provisions related to patriotism, forming a patriotism-revolved legal system consisting of federal legislation, state legislation, and presidential executive orders to ensure the cultivation of patriotism.

However, when it comes to China, every aspect of a similar legislative move is interpreted through a distorted lens. It is extremely absurd and malicious for some external forces to use such a double standard.

Patriotism has been deeply rooted in Chinese culture since ancient times. It is regarded by the Chinese people as one of the most important traditional virtues and is taught to children generation after generation. The smear campaign against Chinese patriotic education legislation is clearly...

NAIDOC Week celebrations start on Sunday "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

National NAIDOC Week events are held across Australia in the first week of July each year from Sunday to Sunday, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week is a special time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions Indigenous Australians make to our country and society.

The 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders.

Across every generation Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. They have paved the way for the paths we can now take, and guide us not only through generations of advocacy and activism but in everyday life and how to place ourselves in the world.

We draw strength from their knowledge and experience, in everything from land management and cultural knowledge to justice and human rights. Across multiple sectors like health, education, the arts, politics, and everything in between, they have set the many courses we follow.

It is their influence and through their learnings that we must ensure that when it comes to future decision-making for our people, there is nothing about us without us.

Land tax unsustainable, says local commercial property owner "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

Are land taxes, set by the NSW government, contributing to spiralling inflation?

Thats a question that local landlord and filmmaker, David Warth, is calling on other landlords to discuss at a meeting on land tax reform.

The meeting is planned for next Monday, July 3, at 5.30pm in the ANZAC room, at the Byron Bay Ex-Services Club.

Several aspects of reform are up for consideration says David. Land tax raised locally could, in part, be allocated locally. This could take pressure off the local council rates levy.

Land tax could be indexed to commercial interest rates with viable rental returns and CPI also being taken into account.

This would mean that its still worth investing in commercial properties and tenants would have security and the ability to run a successful business.

Some tenants are very stressed

Most commercial property agents have been contacted personally on the issue, Warth says. From discussions with these agents, there was an understanding that some tenants are very stressed, owing to the economic downturn. Fortunately, there are also some enterprises operating in the sector that have been able to maintain momentum.

David told The Echo that there is a human side to the downturn being experienced everywhere. Im thankful to have good relationships with my tenants, and I do my best to rent out my premises at rates that are sustainable.

I have very good tenants and Im mindful of how important it is for them to succeed with their businesses, and for them to have the opportunity to really enjoy living and working in our beautiful part of the world.

This is a prosperous country and this is a very rich area. There shouldnt be this amount of stress when renting a property.

During covid, he says he adjusted the rents accordingly, and brought them back up slowly.

It wasnt pleasant to see my tenants so distressed at the time. It was terrible, but we got through it. Now due to land tax increases, the pressure is on again.

Not tied to CPI

Rents are often indexed to CPI, but land tax is not, and is going up in leaps and bounds.....

Hotez Refuses to Debate RFK on Vaccines "IndyWatch Feed National"

June 15, 2023, podcast host Joe Rogan interviewed1 Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for three hours. Contrary to so many other interviewers, Rogan allowed Kennedy ample time to discuss his views on vaccines without interruptions.

The facts laid out by Kennedy apparently rubbed vaccine scientist Dr. Peter Hotez2 the wrong way. In a June 17 tweet, Hotez posted a Vice article titled Spotify has Stopped Even Sort of Trying to Stem Joe Rogans Vaccine Misinformation.

Addressing the author of that smear piece, Hotez stated, Its really true @annamerian just awful. And from all the online attacks Im receiving after this absurd podcast, its clear many actually believe this nonsense. Never mind the fact that Hotez, in April 2020, was allowed to argue his pro-vaccine stance on Rogans show.3

Hotezs fly-by smear attempt set off an extended back-and-forth Twitter exchange between Hotez, Rogan and Kennedy. In the video above, comedian Jimmy Dore reviews those exchanges.

Rogan Offers Hotez $100K to Debate Kennedy

Rogan replied to Hotez tweet, saying, Peter, if you claim what RFK Jr. is saying is misinformation, I am offering you $100,000.00 to the charity of your choice if youre willing to debate him on my show with no time limit.

Kennedy also chimed in, tweeting, Peter. Lets finally have the respectful, congenial, informative debate that the American people deserve. Hotez replied to Rogan, Joe, you have my cell, my email, Im always willing to speak with you.

Rogan, in turn, replied This is a non-answer. I challenged you publicly because you publicly quote tweeted and agreed with that dogshit Vice article. If youre serious about what you stand for, you now have a massive opportunity for a debate that will reach the largest audience a discussion like this has ever had. If you think someone else is better qualified, suggest that person.

Hotez came back at Rogan: Joe, if you are serious about addressing vaccines + the fact that 200,000 unvaccinated Americans needlessly perished during our awful delta/BA.1 COVID waves ... because they fell victims to vaccine disinformation: I want to have that discussion.

So, hes willing to go on Rogans show again by himself. But not with someone who knows the science w...

RTDs push up drinking habits stats "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

Heavy alcohol consumption by Australians was highlighted during the pandemic lockdowns, but a new report shows that drinkers of wine and RTDs (ready-to-drink) have kept the party going, leading to an overrall increase in Australians who drink alcohol compared to the pre-pandemic period. Consumption of RTDs is now at a record high.

As many Australias contemplate participating in Dry July, the reports statistics are sobering to say the least.

New data from Roy Morgans Alcohol Consumption Report shows the proportion of Australians who drink alcohol was at 67.6 per cent in the 12 months to March 2023, up by 1.3 per cent points since the pre-pandemic period in the 12 months to March 2020 (66.3 per cent).

Stuck at home for extended periods

The number of Australians drinking wine, beer and spirits reached pandemic highs during 2021 as Australians were stuck at home for extended periods during the many lockdowns that different parts of the country experienced. However, consumption of RTDs  has continued to increase and is now at a record high.

In the year to March 2023 a total of 13,709,000 Australians (67.6 per cent) aged 18+ consumed alcohol in an average four-week period compared to 13,073,000 (66.3 per cent) in the year to March 2020 an increase of well over 600,000 Australians.

The standout alcoholic beverages over the course of the pandemic have been RTDs for which consumption increased from 2,138,000 Australians (10.8 per cent) pre-pandemic up to 4,208,000 (20.8 per cent) a massive increase during the pandemic of over 2 million people.

Most popular alcohol is wine

ASIA:

A recent report revealed that internet shutdowns in Manipur and Punjab, India, had a significant economic impact. The shutdowns cost the Indian economy an estimated $1.9 billion, led to a loss of $118 million in foreign investment, and resulted in approximately 21,268 job losses. This highlights Indias high risk of internet shutdowns, which stood at 16 percent in 2023, one of the highest in the world. The report also noted that global internet shutdowns reached a record high in 2022, with governments implementing restrictions during civil unrest, exams, and elections, causing major economic consequences. Governments often mistakenly believe that shutting down the internet can control unrest, misinformation, and cybersecurity threats. However, these shutdowns severely disrupt economic activity, impacting e-commerce, time-sensitive transactions, employment, business-customer communications, and creating financial and reputational risks for companies.

Orangutan beatboxing offers clues about human language, study says "IndyWatch Feed National"

Beatboxing became popular in the 1980s, when Doug E. Fresh performed the style around the New York City hip-hop scene. However, the seeds of this vocal technique, which involves making two sounds at once, can be found hundreds of years ago in the vibrato of the Zulu isicathamiya vocalists and tabla bols of Hindustani singers. But could this vocal style have roots further back? According to a new study in PNAS Nexus, researchers have found some clues in one of our closest animal kin the orangutans. Researchers observed orangutans for 3,800 hours in Borneo and Sumatra, recording two populations making beatbox-like vocalizations. Humans rarely produce voiced and voiceless noises simultaneously. The exception is beatboxing, Madeleine Hardus, study co-author, said in a statement. But the very fact that humans are anatomically able to beatbox, raises questions about where that ability came from. We know now the answer could lie within the evolution of our ancestors. Orangutans can produce special calls that involve combining two different sounds. For example, females in Sumatra produce kiss squeaks at the same time as rolling calls to alert other orangutans of predators. The studys authors say this highlights their impressive vocal control and coordination skills. https://imgs.mongabay.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/20/2023/06/29200208/orangutan_compressed.mp4   Humans use the lips, tongue, and jaw to make the unvoiced sounds of consonants, while activating the vocal folds in the larynx with exhaled air to make the voiced, open sounds of vowels, Adriano Lameira, associate professor of psychology at the University of Warwick and co-author of the research, said. The Folly of Building the Mountain Valley Pipeline

From the Article by Ivy Main, Power for the People VA, June 29, 2023

The folly of building the Mountain Valley Pipeline should be obvious to anyone who hasnt already committed billions of dollars to the project!

This springs passage of federal legislation raising the debt ceiling came with one provision that clean energy advocates had fought hard against: it sweeps away several legal challenges to the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) that have stalled completion for more than four years. The pipeline is supposed to carry methane gas from the fracking fields of West Virginia into Virginia to connect to an existing interstate pipeline here, and getting it built has long been a priority of West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin.

Manchin surely believes he notched a victory with the inclusion of this provision in must-pass legislation. And in one respect, hes right. Pipeline opponents arent conceding defeat, but stopping the MVP in court just got a heck of a lot harder.

Whether the pipelines developers should be celebrating is another matter. The wisdom of building a new methane gas pipeline was questionable nine years ago when the MVP was conceived. Today, with the U.S. transitioning away from fossil fuels, the folly of building new gas infrastructure should be obvious to anyone who hasnt already committed billions of dollars to the project.

Dominion Energy figured this out three years ago when it dropped plans to develop the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. Dominion is a big energy conglomerate and had other projects to pursue. Canceling the Atlantic Coast Pipeline saved it billions of dollars that it is now investing in offshore wind and other renewable energy assets.

MVPs two largest minority partners are also diversified companies with other options. NextEra Energy, which owns a 31% share in the partnership through its subsidiary Next Energy Resources, wrote off the value of its investment in MVP in 2021 and 2022, saying it planned to reevaluate its investment in the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

A NextEra spokesperson did not answer my question about what the company plans to do about MVP now. But i...
