Australias government is wrong to attack the Solomon Islands "IndyWatch Feed National"

Contributed by Jim Hayes

The attack on the Solomon Islands for singing a cooperation agreement with China is wrong. Worse, it is an uncalled for intervention in the internal affairs of another nations. Its the deliberate bullying by a local big power of a small neighbour.

Nations that value democracy will hold that a nation belongs to its people and that the course the nation takes is up to them, not for someone from outside wanting to impose their will.

Comments from leading Australian politicians indicate they have a somewhat different view of the world. In his case, it involves trying to block any deal our neighbours might make with China. The reason? The Australian government is locked into the geopolitical ambition of the United States to maintain its dominance in the region.

Australias history in this part of the world has often not been a good one and given to a propensity to play a kind of colonialist role, denying the right of local peoples to be masters of their own destiny. In other words, Australia stood against democracy. We need only consider the roles played in Papua new Guinea, Timor-Leste, and the current backing of the Indonesian occupation of West Papua.

When the Solomon Islands prime minister Manasseh Sogavare insists that Australia is meddling in his nations internal affairs, he makes an exceptionally good point.

Photo from the Australian: Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Manasseh Sogavare

The current controversy concerns the deal with China, which seems to have been prompted by Australian moves to renege on its own prior agreement. We dont know the details of this because the matter has been going on behind closed doors. What we do know is that the Solomon Islands are unhappy with the way they see they have been treated. The bottom line is that the Australian government insists that the Solon Islands should be denied this right. This isnt said openly, of course....

New Drug Shows Promise In Slowing Alzheimers Progression, Says Dementia Australia "IndyWatch Feed National"

In a significant breakthrough, Dementia Australia has hailed the release of trial findings unveiling the efficacy of Donanemab, a promising new drug that slows the progression of early Alzheimers symptoms.

Developed by pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, the drug functions by stimulating antibodies designed to target and eliminate amyloid plaques from the brain.

A decade ago, in 2011, the leading cause of death for non-Indigenous men and women in Australia was coronary heart disease. This remains the case for men in 2021, but dementia, including Alzheimers disease, claimed the number one ranking for women. (For Indigenous Australians, the leading cause of death remains coronary heart disease, followed by diabetes).

(Source: AIHW)

Maree McCabe, CEO of Dementia Australia, expressed her enthusiasm for this groundbreaking development, hailing it as a critical advancement in diversifying dementia treatment options.

These results instil much-needed hope for those experiencing symptoms, mild cognitive impairment, or early-stage Alzheimers, Ms McCabe said.

The research also underscores the vital significance of early diagnosis, ensuring timely access to treatment and support.

Increasing dementia awareness and understanding will help reduce discrimination and stigma, thus encouraging individuals with cognitive concerns to seek information and support at the earliest opportunity, she said.

Timely support and services have demonstrated superior health, care, and lifestyle outcomes for those affected.

Dementia Australia has urged cautious optimism as Donanemab awaits approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for its use in Australia.

Professor Blossom Stephan, Chair of Dementia Curtin University and Dementia Australia, lauded the trials results as encouraging, noting the study revealed that participants with mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia experienced a reduction of up to 35 per cent in cognitive decline through Donanemab treatment.

This research also highlights the need to ensure that healthcare services are equipped to deliver the intervention as well as make sure that access to treatment is equitable and available to everyone,...

How much water do French nuclear plants use? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Figures showing that the cooling of reactors could capture 30% of water resources have been removed from the site of the Ministry of Environment.

Le Monde ,By Perrine Mouterde, March 26, 2023,

How much do nuclear power plants contribute to total water consumption in France? This simple question no longer seems to have a clear answer. At the root of the confusion lies the Ministry of Environmental Transitions removal of a background paper on the resourcing and use of water in France on around March 10. According to this fact sheet from the statistical service, power plant cooling represented the second most water-consuming activity in the country (31%), behind agriculture (45%) and ahead of drinking water (21%) and industrial use (4%). The annual volume of water consumed in mainland France, over the period 2008-2018, was estimated at 5.3 billion cubic meters.

In the midst of the review of the parliamentary bill to accelerate the construction of new reactors, the figure of 31% was being used by opponents of atomic energy to demonstrate that this energy source was not adapted to climate change. Once and for all, lets say it, simply and firmly: at this rate, there will soon not be enough water in our rivers to cool the nuclear power plants!, stated Marine Tondelier the national secretary of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV, Greens) on March 7, based on this data.

Three days later, the Ministry of Environmental Transition.(subscribers only)

ACT Bill to Raise the Age falls short for 12 and 13 year olds "IndyWatch Feed National"

Australias first jurisdiction set to pass legislation to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14 will fall short of its obligations to protect the human rights of children.

A report from ACT parliaments Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety, tabled on Friday, failed to recommend necessary changes to proposed legislation to raise the age. Advocates have been unequivocal in calling for the Barr Government to raise the age to at least 14 with no carve-outs.

The Committees report ignored advice from medical experts and Aboriginal, legal and human right advocates by failing to recommend the removal of carve outs for children aged 12 and 13, who will remain criminally responsible for some behaviour, from the Bill.

Medical evidence is abundantly clear that children under the age of 14 do not have the capacity for criminal responsibility. Instead the ACT government will continue to criminalise behaviours that are best understood as responses to trauma.

Despite hearing evidence on the significant harm and trauma children in prisons are subjected to, the Committee failed to make recommendations that could stop children aged 12 and 13 from being locked away in the coming years, opting to support the governments decision to delay raising the age of criminal responsibility to 14 until 2025.

Recommendations for stronger oversight of intensive therapy places under the Optional Protocol on the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT) are welcomed, as well as the inclusion of Elders on the therapeutic support panel for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

Quotes Attributed to Maggie Munn, National Director, Change the Record:

While we commend the ACT government for raising the age of criminal responsibility to 14 it is disappointing that this will be delayed until 2025 and will include carve outs for 12 and 13 year olds.

"The government seems set on incarcerating children who don't understand the gravity of their behaviour, and then wondering why that behaviour doesn't change. Children belong in schools and playgrounds and need to be supported to learn from their mistakes, not locked in cages."

Quotes Attributed to Amala Ramarathinam, Acting Managing Lawyer, Human Rights Law Centre:

The Committees report represents a missed opportunity to recommend crucial changes to the Bill. Children will continue to experience significant harm and trauma while the ACT Government delays raising the age to 14 and continues to criminalise 12 and 13 year olds for certain behaviours.

Police should not have the power to arrest and lock up children under the age of criminal responsibility. 10 year olds still have their baby teeth and 12 year olds are still in primary school. The Bill must be urgently amende...

Hindutva Goes to Washington: Narendra Modis US Visit "IndyWatch Feed National"

Again, he was at it, that charming show on two legs, playful and coy. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been burning the charismatic fuel of late, making the necessary emissions in visiting friendly countries. Each time, he seems to be getting away with more and more, currying (pun intended) favour with his hosts and landing the necessary deals.

For all the excitement of going to a fellow cricket loving state such as Australia, no one was under any illusion about the prize. Easy gains there on matters of commerce, education and security: a pliant PM, a pliant Cabinet, a political and business class hungering for access to a country which recently passed China as the most populous on the planet. In all of this, Modi had the audacity to urge Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to do something about reported acts of vandalism against Hindu temples in Melbourne.

In scale, nothing was going to compare to courting the superpower that, for all its might, teeters. On his June visit to the United States, Modi was building on earlier efforts to show India as a viable partner in a number of areas.

The Modi visit exemplified the calculations of the moment. The US has been rather clumsy of late, engaging in a foreign policy described by former US Secretary of the Treasury, Lawrence Summers, as a bit lonely. US foreign policy makers have tended to miss a bit or two, not least understanding the value Indian officials place on their military relationship with Moscow. The Indian political establishment is also mindful about how useful New Delhi is seen in Washington, the traditional counter to Beijing. That counter, however, is seen as subordinate to maintaining US supremacy under the lecturing guise of the rules-based order.

Such poses are simply not acceptable in either the Modi worldview or those of Indian policy makers. As Indias External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has opined with a tart frankness, Washingtons power can be described as a transient moment of American unipolarity. To assume, arrogantly, that history was at its end at the conclusion of the Cold War was a Eurocentric analysis jettisoned by nationalism. It is exactly such nationalism that Modi brims with.

The joint statement from the two countries made familiar, and predictable assumptions. Much of it was frothy. Both Biden and Modi affirmed a vision of the United States and India as among the closest partners in the world a partnership of democracies looking into the 21st century with hope, ambition, and confidence. Naturally, there is no mention of Modis nationalistic....

Australia-EU FTA talks stalled over agricultural exports and GIs, may resume in August "IndyWatch Feed National"

July 17, 2023: Trade Minister Farrell and Prime minster Albanese announced last week that EU concessions in negotiating the Australia-EU FTA were not good enough and that Australia would not sign a deal unless it had real commercial benefits for Australia.

Australia wants more access for Australian lamb, beef and other agricultural exports and rejects the EUs refusal to allow Australian producers to use names like prosecco and feta cheese (Geographical Indications).

EUs market of over 400 million people gives it greater bargaining power, but the EU also wants access to Australias critical mineral deposits, which are needed for production of batteries and other products for the transition to clean energy. EU representatives have also said more work was required to address these key outstanding issues. Minister Farrell commented that there was possibility of further talks next month.

The DFAT website reports that talks have concluded on other key areas of concern to AFTINET. We do not yet know if earlier EU proposals for longer monopolies on medicines have been removed, and whether the commitments on labour rights and environmental standards, including commitments on reduction of carbon emissions, are fully enforceable in the same way as other commitments in the agreement.

However, the details of these commitments will not be revealed until after the deal is concluded. The EU has a policy of releasing and publishing independent evaluations of the texts of trade agreements after they are concluded but before they are signed. The Albanese Labor government has a policy for a more open process, including independent evaluation of agreements before they are signed. The EU agreement will be their first chance to put this policy into practice.

New school for controversial site in Lennox "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

Super Lot 5, corner of Snapper and Montwood Drives, Lennox Head. Photo David Lowe.

Clarence Property, the developer of Lennox Heads Epiq estate, has announced the sale of Super Lot 5, on the corner of Montwood and Snapper Drive, to the NSW Department of Education.

The 4.2ha site will now become the site of the new Lennox Head Primary School, having previously been mooted by the developer as the location of a retirement facility and then a medium-density integrated housing development of over 100 dwellings.

Having run into problems with Ballina Shire Council advancing that idea, Clarence Property appealed to the NSW Department of Planning to change the planned use of the land, but that has now been set aside by the new announcement.

Ballina Cr Kiri Dicker, a critic of the housing development plan, has enthusiastically welcomed the latest news, describing it as an enormous win for the community and a perfect site for the Lennox Head Public School.

On social media, Cr Dicker said, I still cant stop smiling at the news that our new school will be located right in the heart of the Epiq Estate, which is home to so many young families.

Once again, the world is being warned by nature of the disaster climate warming is causing. This year has seen record heatwaves in Europe and devastating floods in other parts of the world. The planet is now paused on the eve of an El Nio on a scale never seen before.

These sort of weather events are not new. Records have been breaking year after year. Ice cap melts, raising sea levels, and a slowing down of the Atlantic conveyor are major causes of worsening weather patterns. 3 July saw the hottest day for the planet ever recorded. The evidence is indisputable.

Massive cyclone activity in the Indian Ocean, sinkholes appearing in California, unbearable heat in Spain, the spread of bushfires in Canada, record ocean water temperatures, are the reality. Records are being smashed. Species eh]extinction is accelerating, and ultimately, our own extinction is a real possibility.

Yet many governments, including that of Australia, dont seem to notice. They remain in a denial zone, too busy pleasing their big money backers to bother. This is a new wakeup call. We must call out our governments or their failure to act. We must not just get angry. Its important to divert our anger into constructive action.

What does this mean? It means becoming active in our communities, joining pour organisations, being loud, and taking our demand for change to those who hold the power. Our survival depends on winning this war. And it is a war. Those who stand in the way of the necessary climate action must be vanquished.

Its just as important to move beyond protest, towards being pro-active in building the future, by being involved in projects that cut emissions. When governments dont do it, its communities that must act. There is some of this already. But there must be...

The global association between egg intake and the incidence and mortality of ischemic heart disease. "IndyWatch Feed National"

PMID: Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2023 Feb 25 ;20(5). Epub 2023 Feb 25. PMID: 36901143 Abstract Title: The Global Association between Egg Intake and the Incidence and Mortality of Ischemic Heart Disease-An Ecological Study. Abstract: The relationship between egg consumption and ischemic heart disease (IHD) remains controversial as there is still no clear answer regarding the relationship, with research limited to a few geographical regions. In the current study, we conducted a longitudinal analysis of the association between egg intake and IHD incidence (IHDi) and mortality (IHDd) using 28 years of international data from 1990 to 2018. Egg intake (g/day/capita) by country was obtained from the Global Dietary Database. Age-standard IHDi and IHDd rates per 100,000 subjects in each country were obtained from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease database. The analysis included a total of 142 countries with populations of at least one million, for which all data were available from 1990 to 2018. Eggs are consumed worldwide, and regional differences in consumption are also shown. Utilizing IHDi and IHDd as objective variables and egg intake as an explanatory variable, the analysis was conducted using linear mixed models, which controlled for inter- and intra-country variation from year to year. The results showed a significant negative association between egg intake, and IHDi (-0.2530.117,

TUC Accused of Frustrating Formation of Organized Labour Structure

By GNA

July 16, 2023

The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has accused the Ghana Trade Union Congress (TUC) of frustrating the conclusion of the process and the adoption of the draft of the committee to put in place proper organized labour structures.

GFL noted that instead of building proper structures to constitute Organized Labour, the TUC instead adopted a knee-jerk and ad hoc approach to dealing with labour issues.

TUC is not the same as Organized Labour, Mr. Abraham Koomson, the Secretary General of the GFL, told newsmen in Tema, stressing that the power of the TUC to legally represent all workers in Ghana was revoked with the amendment of the Industrial Relations Act (1960), Act 299.

Mr. Koomson added that the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651) replaced the TUC with Organized Labour, adding that it did not mention the structure and organogram of Organized Labour, a lacuna that, the TUC had been taking advantage of.

This, the Federation said, would enable labour to legitimately exercise its mandate to holistically address the concerns of the rank and file.

Organized Labour, which is a term (name) provided under the laws of Ghana, represents a body of recognized and independent labour unions, federations, and associations working in concert to pursue the common interest of working people in and of Ghana, he explained.

He recalled that to cure this problem, GFL resorted to the High Court for some answers, adding, however, that the court advised that they go for a settlement, out of which TUC and GFL agreed on three things.

The terms of settlement dated April 25, 2010, indicated that TUC and GFL were to work together to get a working definition of the term organized labour, an organogram for decision making within organized labour, and a timetable for the adoption by all labour unions of the working document and operationalizing the same.

He indicated that following this, a nine-member committee with representatives of labour unions such as ICU, TUC, CLOGSAG, GFL, and others came out with a...

Harnessing the Healing Power of Smart Stem Cells Derived From Human Fat "IndyWatch Feed National"

Recent research has uncovered a new type of smart stem cell known as Induced Multipotent Stem Cells (iMS), marking a significant step forward in the field of regenerative medicine. These iMS cells, derived from readily accessible human fat cells, have shown an impressive ability to adapt and transform in animal studies, thus demonstrating their potential for tissue repair1.

John Pimanda, a professor at UNSW Medicine & Health, explains that iMS cells are unique in their ability to respond to their environment. The idea that stem cells can respond and adapt to their surroundings to repair various types of damaged tissue is novel, and could lead to a paradigm shift in stem cell research and treatment strategies1.

The Generation of Smart Stem Cells

Scientists created iMS cells by exposing human fat cells to a compound mixture, which triggered a process that resulted in the cells losing their original identity and behaving like smart stem cells. Interestingly, these reprogrammed cells remained dormant when injected into mice, until an injury occurred. Following an injury, the cells adapted and transformed into the required tissue for repair.

iMS Cells: Adaptive Chameleons of Regenerative Medicine

Heres how these iMS cells are transformative in the field of regenerative medicine:

Responsive to Surroundings: iMS cells behave like chameleons, responding to local cues and seamlessly blending into the tissue that needs healing.

Unprecedented Abilities: Unlike other stem cell technologies, iMS cells arent limited in their regenerative abilities and do not carry risks such as tumor development.

Patient-specific: Since iMS cells are derived from the patients own tissue, they significantly reduce the risk of rejection.

Wide Adaptation: iMS cells derived from adult tissue have shown the ability to adapt to a wide range of tissue types in mice, making them a kind of smart stem cell....

Kennedy accuses Biden of preparing for war with Russia "IndyWatch Feed National"

RT | July 15, 2023

By ordering the deployment of 3,000 more reservists to Europe, US President Joe Biden is preparing to fight Russian forces on the ground in Ukraine, Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said.

Biden has lost his way, Kennedy tweeted on Friday, arguing that the president should focus on Americas domestic problems instead of trying to achieve global military dominance.

I want people to understand what this troop mobilization is about. Its about preparing for a ground war with Russia, he said.

The idea of defeating Moscow in its conflict with Kiev is a futile geopolitical fantasy of the Biden administration, the Democratic presidential candidate added.

Thousands of Ukrainians have already lost their lives because Americas foreign policy establishment manipulated their country into war Now, rather than acknowledge failure, Biden admin prepares to sacrifice American lives too, Kennedy said.

On Thursday, Biden signed an executive order mobilizing 3,000 members of the US militarys Selected Reserve to boost the ranks of Operation Atlantic Resolve, which Washington launched in Europe in 2014 after Crimea rejoined Russia following the Western-backed coup in Kiev.

According to Army Lieutenant General Douglas Sims, the Joint Staff director of operations, the move reaffirms the unwavering [US] support and commitment to defend NATOs eastern flank in the wake of Russias military operation in Ukraine.

The US European Command (EUCOM) spokesman, Navy Captain Bill Speaks, said the deployment of reservists will not change current force-posture levels in Europe.

The leading Republican presidential candidate, former President Donald Trump, also had some harsh words to say about Bidens decision to send more American troops to Europe. The reckless escalation in Ukraine pursued by the White House is straining the US military to the point of disaster, he said.

Joe Biden cant even walk up the steps of Air Force One without tripping. The last thing this incompetent administration should be doing is pushing us further toward World War III.

Trump reiterated his earlier claim that if he becomes president again, he would end the conflict in Ukraine in 24 hours. Not one American mother or father wants to send their child to die in Eastern Europe. We must have peace.

Another Republican presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, said it is downright disturbing that the US media is largely ignoring the presidents order in its reporting. What is the justification now [for sending reservists to Europe]? What are the operations? Where will they go? What will they do? We need answers, not sweeping this under the rug as Biden would prefer, Ramaswamy said in...

Weaponised Antisemitism Crushed the Political Left: Now its the Cultural Lefts Turn "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

What does it mean to be antisemitic in modern Britain? The answer seems ever more confusing.

We have reached the seemingly absurd point that a political leader famed for his anti-racism, a rock star whose most celebrated work focuses on the dangers of racism and fascism, and a renowned film maker committed to socially progressive causes are all now characterised as antisemites.

And in a further irony, those behind the accusations do not appear to have made a priority of anti-racism themselves not, at least, until it proved an effective means of defeating their political enemies.

And yet, the list of those supposedly exposed as antisemites often only by association keeps widening to include ever more unlikely targets.

That is especially true in the Labour Party, where even the vaguest ties with any of the three iconic left-wing figures noted above Jeremy Corbyn, Roger Waters and Ken Loach can be grounds for disciplinary action.

One of the Labour Partys most successful politicians, Jamie Driscoll, North of Tyne mayor, was barred last month from standing for re-election after he shared a platform with Loach to talk about the Norths place in the directors films.

Not coincidentally, Driscoll has been described as the UKs most powerful Corbynista or supporter of Corbyns left-wing policies. The nadir in this process may have been reached at the Glastonbury Festival.

Back in 2017, Corbyn, then-Labour leader, was given top billing as he set out a new, inspirational vision for Britain. Six years on and organisers cancelled the screening of a film, Oh Jeremy Corbyn: The Big Lie, highlighting the sustained campaign to smear Corbyn as an antisemite and snuff out his left-wing agenda.

The decision was taken after pro-Israel pressure groups launched a campaign to smear the film as antisemitic. The festival decided showing it would cause division.

So what is going on?

To understand how we arrived at this dark moment, one in which seemingly anyone or anything can be cancelled as antisemitic, it is necessary to grapple with the terms constantly mutating meaning and the political uses this confusion is...

Even a cult leaders death does not kill the cult "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Two years ago I wrote about a particularly bizarre cult surrounding John F. Kennedy Jr. that believes that he faked his own death and would be returning as serial sex abuser Donald Trumps (SSAT) running mate for 2024. A large crowd of believers of this cult congregated at Dealey Plaza (where JFK was assassinated) in November 2021 on the 58th anniversary of his death thinking that both father and son would appear there. Spoiler alert: They did not appear.

The leader of this particular QAnon subcult was someone named Michael Protzman who also went by the label Negative48.

Protzman seems to believe that JFK and Jackie Kennedy were the second physical incarnations of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and direct descendants in a genealogy so bizarre not even Dan Brown would touch it, with JFK Jr. as the Archangel Michael and Donald Trump as the Holy Spirit.

The Negative48 cult is tearing families apart, as Vices David Gilbert recently reported. Katy Garner, a nurse from Arkansas, told Gilbert that she had essentially lost her sister to Protzmans cult in the months since the November 2020 election.

She left her children for this and doesnt even care. She is missing birthdays and holidays for this. She truly believes this is all real and we are the crazy ones for trying to get her to come home. But she wont, Garner said. I dont believe she will ever come back from this. We are in mourning.

Garner said that, under Protzmans direction, her sister now is required to drink a hydrogen peroxide solution and take bio pellets to ward off COVID-19, and her phone calls are monitored. She also has handed over about $200,000 to the cult.

Protzman had told his followers that they should become comfortable with dying because only then will they know the truth, evoking ominous comparisons to the Jim Jones cult. He himself may now know the truth because he died on June 30th after he lost control of his dirt bike on a motorcross track. But that seems to have only strengthened the beliefs of his supporters.

After his accident two weeks ago, details about Protzmans condition were tightly controlled by his inner circle of half a dozen followers. While they initially told followers in an online chat that Protzman had a potential brain injury and told them to pray for him, the inner circle has refused to answer any follow up questions about his condition.

Shelly Mullinax, who was one of Protzmans earliest...

Ken Ham is a disingenuous fraud on climate change "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Im sorry, I feel stupider for having read this: its Ken Ham talking about climate change. He reports the headlines:

Shortly after the Fourth of July weekend here in the US, headlines proclaimed: For the third day in a row, Earths average temperature breaks record highs. Last week on July 5, 2023, the average global temperature (according to one universitys Climate Reanalyzer, a tool that uses satellite data and computer simulations to measure the worlds condition) was a record 62.8 degrees Fahrenheit (or 17.18 C), beating the record set on Monday. But is this really a record?

Yes.

But Ol Ken questions it.

was last week really a record? Well, it might have beenbut we dont really know! Humans have only been recording climate data since the 1880s, and weve only had robust data since satellite data collection began in the 1970s. So we have no idea how warm the warmest day on earth was in all of the earths history! (But we do know, based on the fossil record, that the earths climate was much warmer before the flood!)

You idiot. We have over a century of robust climate records, and this was the highest temperature on record, therefore, yes, it was a record high temperature. Words mean things, you know. They werent saying this was the hottest the planet had ever been that probably occurred about 4 billion years ago, when the planet was a molten ball of rock but the hottest since we humans have been carefully tracking the climate. OK, you fucking stupid charlatan?

But he goes on to top that disingenuous word game. He claims that he believes in climate change.

Not only do I believe in climate change, but Im a climate change alarmist, and I do believe humans have caused climate change!

Exceptjust not the way scientists do, with their measurements and data and records. No, he believes in a coming Biblical catastrophe.

Well, Im not referring to a supposed slight global temperature increase allegedly caused by humans burning fossil fuels. Im referring to the ultimate catastrophic climate change everyone should be aware of when one day in the future, Jesus will return, and the earth (and the whole universe) will be judged with fire, and God will make a new heavens and earth.

He then goes on to say that...

005 Artificial Intelligence, Thought and Thinking "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

This episode is on Cartesian Theatre, Socrates Elenchus, GAN and tokens, alcohol and the Divine Masculine. Bit of a ramble really.

How artificial intelligence And human intelligence converge. Or do not. I wanted to start to tackle artificial intelligence, thought and thinking. We humans are not convinced we understand how we think and have spent philosophical lifetimes debating and cogitating. (Rene Descartes Cogito ergo sum, or Dennetts draft mode or quantum consciousness?)
While AI may one day move from a sequential process to a concurrent one, the Divine Masculine will lurch toward a prompt-output approach while the Divine Feminine swims in deep waters. Both exist, both can be right.
GAN (adversarial networks) are similar to Socrates Elenchus only by debating what we know and understand do we truly KNOW. The GAN approach will try and fool the AI into thinking the image is not AI generated. It will build muscle by going back to the drawing board and trying again. A Pros and Cons list.
Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, Camus and Baudelaire, Aldous Huxley, Carlos Castaneda and others took the view that Bacchanalia, Dionysian that alcohol can clarify thinking. Or at least mean a good time while philosophising!

Could an Industrial Civilization Have Predated Humans on Earth? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The BIG answer to that question is YES. We now live in the HOLOCENE which opened up the whole Northern Hemishere to a truly usuable climate for agriculture. Agriculture is impossible if a blizzard rockets off the Ice Sheet and travels through your corn fields in mid august all the way past florida.

Before then mankind was limited mostly to the continental shelf and the Tropics. still large, but we add the area of two or three USAs while losing many times more and still fight erratic weather. Understand plus or minus five degrees to our plus or minus one degree for average global temperatures.

The trouble with all that is that the last five million years of our historucal potential is all underwater or up a steep slope accelerating degradation.

cultural stories do give us a glimpse back for 200,000 years and that is at least a starting point. a singular report informs that our fall from Eden took place 45,000 years ago. scant evidence to date conforms to that date. This means htat mankind had around thirty thousand years to produce some form of modernity and then also bring about the Pleistocene Nonconformity around 12900 BP. That gave us the Holocene.

That is humanity.

It is also possible and even plausible that the reptilian race arose on Earth 65,000,000 years ago as well and have rather sensibly retreated underground as we may well choose to do as well in our future. then take your pick of so called aliens that are future modified humans. We can have an actual cornicopia of prospects for an industrial civilization during any past window in TIME that simply packs up and leaves for another planet or even underground again. long term, the earths surface is not risk free while underground can be.

These four U.S. nuclear plants will start producing clean hydrogen "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

how odd. I really think that this is a cash grab by the neuclear power industry. financial engineering at its best. Freeing up hydrogen costs more energy than produced by burning hydrogen. It is and has always been a bad plan just too technically difficult to pull off or we might already be doing it.

We really need a true breakthrough which has not been forthcoming. Yet the monkeys will obviously today buy it all today.

Depleted steam does have plenty of calories left and would make a good feed stock though. Hot oxygen may be cycled back thermodynamically as well to heat the incoming water. It is at least worth thinking through and a stock of hydrogen has potential value.

I still think that this is a thermodynamic long shot.

These four U.S. nuclear plants will start producing clean hydrogen

In power generation, hydrogen is one of the leading options for storing renewable energy and can be used in gas turbines to increase power system flexibility.

Marine ecosystems are struggling, and mining is set to make it worse. "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

I was poking around the internet, looking for something to write about, when I came across two research headlines that I think form a depressingly good microcosm of what were doing to the planet (and ourselves) as a whole. The first is grim, if unsurprising news; a catchy headline reading, Multiple ecosystems in hot water. The study was a 10-year review of Californias Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), which concluded that because of global warming, they arent actually helping much. MPAs are, as the name suggests, protected from fishing, industrial activity, tourism, and other activities, depending on the relevant laws. These dont just protect habitat from destruction, they also serve as a sort of bio-reservoir that can help replenish fish stocks depleted by industrial fishing. The problem is that the absolutely staggering amount of heat that the oceans have been absorbing equivalent to seven Hiroshima-sized nuclear explosions per second in 2021 has been making it hard for protected areas to replenish themselves, let alone other nearby habitats.

As MPA managers around the world face increasing climate shocks, the extent to which MPAs can buffer the worst of these events has become an important question. The working group scientists asked how the ecological communities in Californias protected areas fared after such a severe and prolonged heatwave: Would the communities shift and if so, how? Would they bounce back when the marine heatwave subsided? Could the marine protected areas protect sensitive populations or facilitate recovery?

To find answers to their questions, they synthesized over a decade of data collected from 13 no-take MPAs located in a variety of ecosystems along the Central Coast: rocky intertidal zones, kelp forests, shallow and deep rocky reefs. The team looked at fish, invertebrates and seaweed populations inside and outside these areas, using data from before, during and after the heatwave.

They also focused on two of these habitats, rocky intertidal and kelp forests, at 28 MPAs across the full statewide network to gauge whether these locations promoted one particular form of climate resilience maintaining both population and community structure.

We used no-take MPAs as a type of comparison to see whether the protected ecological communities fared better to the marine heatwave than places where fishing occurred, said Smith, now an Ocean Conservation Research Fellow at Monterey Bay Aquarium.

The results are somewhat sobe...

Former FBI Agent: Wray Evasive Under Scrutiny Because Bureau Has Become Ministry of Truth "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

By Fantine Gardinier Sputnik 14.07.2023

FBI Director Christopher Wray was grilled by lawmakers at a Thursday hearing called by the House Judiciary Committee that demanded answers about the bureaus coordination with social media companies, its alleged abuse of a secret intelligence court, and use of informants during the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol Building.

FBI Director Christopher Wray has been blasted by US House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for weaponization of the government against the American people, which he said had eroded public confidence in the integrity of the FBI, on Thursday.

Jordan and other GOP lawmakers spent several hours interrogating the federal law enforcement chief about a number of incidents they said proved the FBI was being used as a political bludgeon against conservatives, including the use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) to spy on Donald Trumps presidential campaign during the 2016 election, a now-withdrawn memo from the FBIs office in Richmond, Virginia, that suggested spying on Catholic anti-abortion groups over domestic terrorism fears, and news that some people involved in the breaching of the US Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021, were paid FBI informants who acted as provocateurs.

In response, Wray pointed to the fact that he is a registered Republican Party member, telling lawmakers that the idea that Im biased against conservatives seems somewhat insane to me, given my own personal background.

He also rejected the GOP lawmakers assertions that the FBI used agent provocateurs to encourage people to commit crimes on January 6 or that the agency was protecting the Biden family by sitting on potentially incriminating information or suppressing a news story about the contents of Hunter Bidens abandoned laptop computer. However, he acknowledged the FBIs failings in properly using the FISC, in line with previous findings by special counsel John Durham and a DoJ Inspector Generals report.

Coleen Rowley, a retired FBI agent and whistleblower over the bureaus failure to stop the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, said Wray was evasive and had to resort to euphemistic bromides to defend the FBIs reputation, because of the demands placed on the bureau by US policies.

Noting that Wray had adopted a 9/11 changed everything mindset, Rowley pointed out that its one of the few things they dont lie about: 9/11 did change everything. Between the Vietnam War and the so-called War on Terror, that now has morphed into a war on rival economic nuclear superpowers has created all of this polarization...

DEAD FOWL

LAGOS JULY 14TH (URHOBOTODAY)-In a shocking development, two women have been apprehended by vigilantes and handed over to the police in Sapele for attempting to sell lifeless fowls to unsuspecting consumers.

The culprits, who are yet to be identified, were taken into custody on Tuesday morning at the bustling Sapele Main Market, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Alarming reports revealed that several individuals had already succumbed to their devious ploy, unwittingly purchasing the fowl before authorities intervened.

The Sapele Local Government Council Health Officers, alerted to this potential health hazard, acted swiftly by calling the police to the spectacle that had unfolded in the heart of the market.

Responding to the distress call, law enforcement officers promptly descended upon the scene, apprehending the two women and confiscating their merchandise.

Hungarian PM Orban: US could stop Ukraine conflict instantly "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The US wants the conflict in Ukraine to continue and has failed to explain its reasons to NATO allies, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said. Orban told national broadcaster Kossuth Radio that if Washington wished, it could stop the fighting at a moment's notice, as Kiev is fully dependent on the West in the fight against Russia. The Hungarian leader was speaking on Friday morning, after returning from the NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius. During the event, the US-led military bloc declined to extend to Kiev a roadmap for membership. Hungary has stood out among members of the alliance by consistently criticizing Western policies on the Ukraine crisis. "If the Americans wanted it, peace would come the next morning. Why Americans don't want that is a question that puzzles the entire world," Orban said. "We didn't get an answer at the NATO summit."

BEST OF THE WEB: As NATO looks for answers to the Ukraine conflict, Poland seeks the nuclear option "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The ambitions of individual NATO members only bring the world closer to a nuclear catastrophe The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has wrapped up its two-day summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. While issues of NATO expansion (Turkey's unexpected about-face which opened the door to increased NATO membership) and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine dominated the headlines, when it came to the one topic with inherent existential consequences - the request by Poland that it enter a nuclear-arms-sharing arrangement with the US that would see Washington's B61 nuclear bombs deployed on Polish soil - NATO remained silent. According to the request from the government of Prime Minister Mateus Morawiecki, these weapons would be turned over to specially trained Polish air-force crews for use in any future NATO conflict with Russia. Left unsaid is the reality that any conflict which had Poland delivering nuclear weapons against a Russian target would almost immediately escalate into a general...
