User reviews useless compared to tech reviews, eg. Western Digital SN350 "IndyWatch Feed National"

MANY people base their purchase decision on consumers opinions, where in reality there is zero way of knowing whether or not they are fake.

The mainstream media jumps on this as well, using this as a huge promotional point, in their click bait advertising model.

One of the worst places an electronics consumer could go for advice is to a mainstream media news site, for example Rupert Murdochs news empire from some tech flog using a pseudonym, trying to convince you that Apples newest features are worthy of your attention or most importantly your hard earned dollars, in these times of government created austerity.

Even a websites so called reviews on a particular piece of electronics equipment would not be the best place for reference.

They could be false, they could be bots or even the company's webmaster faking reviews on the orders of the CEO.

In this instance the under the spotlight is a SSD (Sold State Drive) from WD (Western Digital), in particular the SN350 model range.

From the reviews of a tech warehouse one would be of the belief that this is a great product to purchase.

Even from another tech warehouse that touts itself as ...

Texas Bans Drag Queen Story Time, Unleashes Winnie The Pooh To Fight School Shooters "IndyWatch Feed National"

Thank God for lawmakers in Texas. Not only have they stepped in to save little children from the clutches of evil drag queens, but theyre almost certainly going to turn their attention to new legislation to save kiddies from school shooters. Soon. Ish. Probably.

During the most recent session of Texas parliament, which ended last week, Republican politicians found time to pass a literal suite of new bills targetting LGBTQ Texans, including ending public funding for libraries that host drag queen story times. Because, you know, its anyones guess how many Texan children have died during a bawdy reading of Spot The Dog.

Unfortunately, the Texas legislature ran out of time this parliamentary session to pass any new gun safety laws turns out its a complicated business not infringing on the second amendment rights of well-armed militias. And given Texas Parliament only meets once every two years, January 2025 will be the earliest Texans can expect any new legislation to try and curb the ever-growing violence in Texas streets and shopping malls.

On the good news front, at least some Texan parents can feel a little more confident about getting their little ones home from school after families in the Dallas area last week received free copies of Stay Safe: Run, Hide, Fight, an exciting new childrens book that helps teach kids the best way to survive a mass school shooting.

If there is danger, let Winnie-the-Pooh and his crew show you what to do! promises the book.

If there is danger and it is safe to get away we should RUN like Rabbit instead of stay.

Help friends that need it, but we cant quit until we are safe with a teacher or the police.

If danger is near, do not fear.
HIDE like Pooh does until the police appear.
Doors should be locked, the passage blocked and lights turned off.
We should all hide without making a sound in a place where we cannot be found.
If we have a cell phone it should be in silent zone.

Gas contributes to Australia producing too much carbon "IndyWatch Feed National"

Contributed by Ben Wilson

study published in the journal Earth System Science Data Shows that carbon is continuing to be spewed out into the atmosphere at a level that is leading the planet to catastrophe. Everyone knows that this must be turned around. Even the most hardened sceptics of the past are now aware of this.

Meanwhile, the gas lobby continues to spend millions to influence politicians and governments to act on their behalf. This is happening right here in Australia and its a disgrace. So is the claim coming from the industry and many politicians that gas is the clean alternative to dirty coal. This is a lie. They are both bad.

Despite this, billions continue to the dolled out to gas companies and Australias carbon footprint continues to rise.

Another lie is that the consumption of gas by Australians has levelled. This conveniently leaves out the fact that according to the governments own figures 74 percent of gas produced in Australia is exported. It still ends up creating emissions that go out into the same atmosphere. Australia remains a major polluter.

The lies are not washing with the public. This is why the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) is waging an advertising campaign to suggest differently. The second disgrace is that this is being allowed. Tobacco companies are not allowed under the law to campaign that smoking doesnt cause cancer. Why should it be any different for fossil fuel companies. Their product also kills.

Instead of being restricted, APPEA is free to subject Australia to a television and online barrage of deliberate misinformation.

A standout example of misinformation is the claim that an International Energy Agency report on gas and a 2017 report on the future of the electricity market from former chief scientist Dr Alan Finkel supports the claim that gas is 50 percent cleaner than coal, and that the rise in gas use is reducing Australias carbon footprint.

Ich verfolge Apple-Ankndigungen normalerweise nicht, ... "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Die GPL funktioniert also!

Leeton Memories concludes "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The final instalment in Red Earth Ecology's Leeton Memories project brings together two prominent local women

Cynthia Arel has interpreted the recollections of Julie Maytom in a window display that captures elements from her childhood in Stanbridge and Parkview, as well as her passion for Fivebough Wetlands.

"My interests now include designing for theatre so I'm treating the display as a small set," said Mrs Arel.

"A lot of what I've included are scenes from nature and the social aspects that unite people.

"I made notes and focused on her early childhood, particularly the red dirt and when she talked about Parkview, like climbing trees in the scrubby setting prior to the School being built."

Viewers will be able to listen to Julie's memories via audio-streaming linked in the QR code shown in the window of the Leeton Community Op Shop.

"I thought I'd be working on it earlier this year, but I'm glad this exhibition came after a history unit that I recently completed.

"Memory is not exactly how it happened, so I'm layering old and new. I find it interesting to think how memory works, the way things that mightn't have been a great experience become lessons of resilience over time.

"Originally my intention was to use chronological layers, but that's not how memory works. Every time you revisit that memory, it changes a bit."

The interview with Julie was conducted by Kathy Tenison of Storymaster Audio and collected details from throughout her life, including the Carlton Cafe that was next door to the current display and significant as the location where she met Paul Maytom.

The Leeton Memories project was developed by Red Earth Ecology as a way of bringing colour to windows on the main street and to prompt discussion of change.

"We're stoked that Cynthia joined in and are very grateful to the team at the Op Shop for the chance to use their location and its visibility within town," said Jason Richardson.

"This project has been a wonderful way to get to know people, as well...

Koalas and their health and habitat have been in the news more than ever in recent months and the word is starting to get out that they need our help.

Recently in an effort to bolster conservation of this furry friend, a contingent of volunteers gathered at Tucki Tucki to plant out an area with trees that koalas love to eat.

Members of Bangalow Koalas and the World Wide Fund (WWF) were on hand to get their hands dirty. They got together on a slice of privately owned land to plant 750 koala habitat and food trees.

A wildlife corridor

The planting is building a part of a wildlife corridor that allows koalas to safely move between their forest homes. The land is owned by farmers who are keen to provide and restore homes for their resident koalas.

Gold Coast model and WWF ambassador Sam Harris, along with her husband Luke, swapped the catwalk for hillside at Tucki Tucki to help with the plant in the hope of raising awareness and encouraging Aussies to do their part in supporting habitat regeneration.

It means so much to be able to give back, and see the work at hand, said Sam. Joining the local community, the Git...

Empire Fables: Vladimir Gluten and the Country that Keeps Attacking Itself "IndyWatch Feed National"

A hound and a cat sat on a couch and watched TV.

The hound flipped through the channels with the remote but could only find two mollusks debating how stupid Joe Biden is and the National Weather Service talking about a terrible pestilence sweeping the land.

Wait! said the cat. Lets see what they named the terrible pestilence.

The crawl says theyre calling it the Victoria Nuland! said the hound. Hey, its time already for the CIA mockingbird news.

At this the cat sprang off the couch and got nose to nose with the screen, switching his tail from side to side, as the mockingbird fluttered and chirped away:

In our continuing exhausting award-winning coverage of Russias Hitler-like attack on Ukraine, we sum up the irrefutable truths so far: Russia bombed its own Nord Stream gas pipeline, bombed its own ammonia pipeline, bombed its own journalists in its own cafe, bombed its own Kerch bridge, tortured and killed its own allies and sympathizers in Bucha, attacked the Kremlin with drones, bombed its own troops holding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and destroyed the Nova Kakhovka dam so Russian defenses and minefields would be washed away and water would be cut off to its soldiers and allies in Crimea.

The cat turned his head to the hound and said, Can you believe this shit?

And the hound answered: I know! I never saw a country attack itself so much. Its like it has an auto-immune disorder like a really bad gluten allergy.

And that, children, is how Vladimir Gluten got his name.

Aboriginal artworks installed on M1 overpass bridges "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

Aboriginal artworks have been installed at nine overpass bridges spanning four lanes on the new Pacific Motorway between Woolgoolga and Ballina on the north coast of New South Wales.

The new artworks along the Woolgoolga to Ballina Aboriginal Art Trail depict the creation stories and ancient travel routes (Songlines) of the Aboriginal nations of the region.

The Woolgoolga to Ballina Aboriginal Art Trail is part of the Pacific Highway upgrade project which also included upgrading nine interchanges, more than 170 bridges and more than 350 other connecting roads.

Federal Member for Richmond Justine Elliot says the artworks tell the Songlines of the Gumbaynggirr, Yaegl and Bundjalung nations, reflecting their physical and spiritual belonging, and connection to Country. The artworks are in place on nine highway overpasses, along a 155-kilometre section of highway between Woolgoolga and Ballina.

The artists were selected by local Aboriginal communities and stakeholders, and their artworks communicate the rich and ancient history of these nations.

Transport for NSW is planning a community event involving all the artists and their communities, to be held in the coming months.

How Doctors Buy Their Way Out of Trouble "IndyWatch Feed National"

From Reuters: When federal enforcers alleged in 2015 that New York surgeon Feng Qin had performed scores of medically unnecessary cardiac procedures on elderly patients, they decided not to pursue a time-consuming criminal case.

Instead, prosecutors chose an easier, swifter legal strategy: a civil suit. Qin agreed to pay $150,000 in a negotiated settlement and walked free to perform more cardiac surgeries at his new solo practice in lower Manhattan.

Qin faced no judge or jury. He did not admit to wrongdoing. He maintained his license to practice. Whats more, neither Qin nor government officials were required to notify patients who purportedly were subjected to vascular surgical procedures they didnt need. Those included fistulagrams to spot issues like narrowed blood vessels or clots, and angioplasties to open clogged coronary arteries.

Within months of the settlement, a registered nurse working for Qin at his Manhattan practice alerted authorities that something seemed amiss. The nurse, who ultimately turned whistleblower, alleged to federal prosecutors that the surgeon was performing unnecessary procedures on patients, mostly elderly Asian and Black immigrants whose care was covered by the public programs Medicare or Medicaid.

Prosecutors indicted Qin in 2018 on a felony count of fraud, which carried a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. But in 2021, in a deal brokered behind closed doors, prosecutors dropped that charge in favor of yet another civil settlement, court records detailing that agreement show.

Once again, Qin kept his New York license to practice with no restrictions; a restricted license is one of the few ways the public can learn that a doctor has been disciplined for bad behavior. Qin agreed to pay a total of $800,000 in annual installments ending in December 2025, deposited with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As an added penalty, he was banned from billing public health programs until February 2025.

. . . The registered nurse who reported Qin to authorities in 2015 was stunned that the criminal charge was dropped.

A wealthy doctor bought his way out of jail, whistleblower Mark Favors told Reuters in his first public interview about the Qin case. How many people get a deal like that?

The answer, it turns out, is plenty.

Austrian Censorship of Peace Conference Is An Outrage "IndyWatch Feed National"

By David Swanson, Executive Director of World BEYOND War; Kathy Kelly, President of World BEYOND War; John Reuwer, Board Member of World BEYOND War; Brad Wolf, Director of Peace Action, Lancaster, PA

Forty-eight hours before a global peace conference in Vienna, Austria, was to begin, the venue host abruptly cancelled. Peace, it seems, cannot be discussed, especially peace in Ukraine.

This news is a disturbing step in a growing trend.

Owners of the venue which was to host the Summit for Peace in Ukraine, announced on Wednesday, 7 June, 2023, their decision to cancel the agreement holding the summit on their premises. Fortunately, a new location was secured in Vienna (and anyone on Earth can sign up to take part online), but not before a smear campaign against the summit had been launched.

The venue owners reportedly explained: We have decided to comply with the wishes of Ukraine and its embassy operating in Austria and have cancelled the rental of all rooms in the GB catamaran for the event International Summit for Peace in Ukraine next weekend.

This was not just one venue taking this position. On Wednesday, the Press Club Concordia also refused to make its premises in a central location in downtown Vienna available for a press conference of the summit.

Supporters of the summit note the chilling innuendo caused by the abrupt cancellation of the summit. Speakers widely regarded for their moral and intellectual guidance have been undermined in statements intended to justify objections to the summit.

This is not an isolated incident. Western liberal ideals have long asserted that the best answer to mistaken speech was wiser speech and more of it. We now have a rapidly growing liberal consensus in favor, instead, of censoring media outlets, canceling speaking events, and forbidding people with unwanted points of view from even gathering together. Powers are being granted to governments, social media platforms, and other tec...

Guest post: What credible climate pledges mean for future global warming "IndyWatch Feed National"

Almost every country in the world has signed up to the Paris Agreements goal of keeping warming well-below 2C and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5C.

As countries gear up to conclude the first global stocktake of progress under the Paris Agreement, you might be wondering how things look for the long-term temperature target.

This seems a simple question, but when looking around for answers one cannot help but come back either disappointed or confused.

On the one hand, some studies, policy trackers and UN reports (including by the IPCC or the UN climate conventions secretariat) suggest that current policies lead the world well past the 2C mark. Estimates range anywhere in the general 2.5C to 3C range, but with a common thread: they all clearly fail to meet the Paris Agreement.

On the other hand, the UN environment programme, plus other studies and reports, suggest that achievement of the Paris Agreement is right there in front of us, within reach if not for a slight additional push. These estimates project warming already below 2C and moving towards the 1.5C limit.

These two answers span an unhelpfully broad range from disaster avoided to disaster confirmed.

In our latest study, published today in Science, we try to provide greater clarity in this regard.

We find a clear answer to the difference between the two extreme outcomes.

The latter set of estimates takes all pledges at face value, both near-term pledges until 2030 which are called...

Heres Where You Should Live Based On Your Myers-Briggs Personality Type "IndyWatch Feed National"

In the early 20th century, the field of psychology was revolutionized by a concept known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, developed the MBTI based on Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jungs theory of psychological types. Over the years, the MBTI has transformed into a reliable psychological instrument used in various fields such as career counseling, team building, personal development, and even relationship counseling.  At present, an estimated 2 million people take the MBTI test annually, demonstrating how well-known it is by the general population.

The MBTI categorizes individuals into 16 different personality Sensing vs Intuition, Thinking vs Feeling, and Judging vs Perceiving. Each personality type is represented by a unique four-letter code (e.g., INFJ, ESTP). Today, were going to match each of these personality types to their ideal city, taking into account their inherent traits, values, and preferences.

DROUGHT: and so it begins..... "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

The green map of New South Wales is changing colour as soil moisture begins to fall.

Thus far drought affected land is confined to the north-east and north-west of the state, with 10.9% of land on the North Coast affected.

An est. 35 parishes are drought affected in the Clarence Valley13 parishes in the Richmond Valley and 3 border parishes in Tweed Shire.

Gene-Edited GMOs: The Answer to Superweeds Or A Covert Tactic To Avoid Regulation? "IndyWatch Feed National"

From Moms Across America

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have been a serious threat to human health for decades. Aside from creating nutrient-deficient food and contributing to illness in general, the environmental perils of genetically modified agriculture have centered around the chemicals used alongside GMOs, like Roundup. This is because these chemicals cause the development of superweeds and superbugspests that are impossible to fully control because they have developed resistance. But are gene-edited varieties the answer?

In the case of superweeds, the crops treated with Roundup are genetically modified to resist it so that farmers can spray everything ubiquitously, but to the farmers dismay the weeds, in turn, genetically modified themselves to resist Roundup toocausing superweeds.

Similar to superweeds, superbugs are insects that have developed a resistance to insecticidesa major problem for farmers, as insects can cause significant damage to crops. In some cases, farmers have to use even more pesticides and herbicides to control them, which can lead to further environmental damage and more toxic chemicals on our dinner plates. Some of the notable cases of insect resistance to Bt include certain species of bollworms, pink bollworms, diamondback moths, and corn rootworms.

Australian Bank Takes Stance Against Payments To Select Crypto Exchanges "IndyWatch Feed National"

Due to concerns over the risk of scams, Australias largest bank, Commonwealth Banks (CBA), has recently announced the temporary delay of certain payments associated with crypto exchanges.

This decision arose after the United States Securities Regulator (SEC) sued two major global exchanges, Coinbase and Binance. This comes just a few weeks after another major Australian bank, Westpac, banned customers from transacting with crypto exchange Binance.

Commonwealth Bank Combat Scams, Prioritizing Customer Protection

On June 8, CBA disclosed its intention to decline or place a 24-hour hold on certain payments to crypto exchanges. Nevertheless, the bank has yet to specify which crypto exchanges or payment types would be impacted by these new measures.

According to a statement, CBA claimed that the measures theyve introduced safeguard their clients from scams associated with making payments to crypto exchanges.

The bank added that customers sending funds to crypto exchanges to purchase cryptocurrencies will have a monthly limit of AUD 10,000 ($6,650).

The general manager of CBAs fraud management services, James Roberts, said;

Consumer interest in cryptocurrencies has been increasing, and unfortunately, scammers globally are capitalizing on this trend and masquerading as legitimate investment opportunities or diverting funds into cryptocurrency exchanges.

James further emphasized that the limits on outbound payments to crypto exchanges and the 24-hour holds will help fight the number of scams and money lost by customers.

CBA said continual evaluation and monitoring would be conducted to assess the impacts of these scam response measures.

This recent security measure marks a significant reversal from its previous plans. Notably, in November 2021, the bank introduced crypto trading services through its CommBank app, holding millions of users.

During that period, the banks CEO, Matt Comyn, acknowledged the associated risks but emphasized the greater risks of not participating.  He stated that The sector and the technology [isnt] going away anytime soon.

Electronic Intifada on the how and why of testing weapons in Palestine "IndyWatch Feed National"

My interview with Nora Barrows-Friedman at the US-based Electronic Intifada on my new book, The Palestine Laboratory, is a wide-ranging discussion on how Israel tests weapons in Palestine and explains why the Jewish state has become the 10th biggest arms dealer in the world:

On episode 78, were joined by journalist, filmmaker and best-selling author Antony Loewenstein to talk about his latest book, The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports The Technology Of Occupation Around The World.

Loewensteins book is a meticulously researched expos on how Israel tests weaponry and surveillance technology on Palestinians, perfecting what he calls the architecture of control.

He talks about Israels occupation and the requisite dehumanization of Palestinians as a marketing tool, and its weapons and spyware including NSO Groups signature Pegasus software as Israels export assets.

This technology is being sold to global markets as field-tested.

The Australian Greens strengthens its policy on Israel/Palestine "IndyWatch Feed National"

My story in the Australian outlet Crikey on the Greens political party releasing an updated policy on Israel/Palestine:

The Australian Greens announced a new policy on Israel and Palestine this week and its already causing conniptions in the pro-Israel lobby.

After the party released details about its revised position, stating that Israel is practising the crime of apartheid against Palestinians, both the Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) and Australia-Israel and Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) issued statements accusing the Greens of anti-Semitism and extremism.

Their portrayal of Israel doesnt reflect reality and their suggestion that Israel is a colonialist country is a bigoted attempt to reject Jewish indigeneity to the land, the ZFA said.

This weaponisation of anti-Semitism demeans the ZFA and AIJAC, whose influence is gradually declining, but more importantly it ignores undeniable facts on the ground in Palestine.

The challenge in defanging the Palestine laboratory "IndyWatch Feed National"

My new essay in the UK-based Middle East Eye examines my new book, The Palestine Laboratory, and also details the growing Israeli influence on Taiwan and other nation states.

An extract:

The Israeli defence industry inspires nations across the globe, many of which view themselves as under threat from external enemies.

The Taiwanese foreign minister, Joseph Wu, recently told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that: Every aspect of the Israeli fighting capability is amazing to the Taiwanese people and the Taiwanese government.

Wu explained that he appreciated how Israel protected its own country because, basically, we [Taiwan] have barely started. The fighting experiences of Israel are something were not quite sure about ourselves. We havent had any war in the last four or five decades, but Israel has that kind of experience.

Wu also expressed interest in Israeli weapons, suggesting his country had considered their usefulness in any potential war with China.

Israel has the Iron Dome, he said, referring to Israels defence system against short-range missiles. We should look at some of the technology that has been used by the Israelis in its defence. Im not sure whether we can copy it, but I think we can look at it and learn from it.

The Palestine laboratory is so successful because nobody wants to seriously regulate the fruits of its labours.

MOSCOW, June 7. /TASS/. The US authorities must give a concrete answer as to whether or not they know how American weapons are being used on the territory of Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing in comments on the attack on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Against the backdrop of the recent attack on the Kakhovka HPP, she pointed to a statement made last December by Ukrainian General Andrey Kovalchuk in an interview with The Washington Post, in which he said that the Ukrainian army had already conducted a test strike from a US HIMARS system on one of the dam's gates to punch it and see how high the water level of the Dnieper River rises.

"Now, the question for [White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John] Kirby, [White House Press Secretary] Karin Jean-Pierre, all the people who are in charge of communications at the White House. <...> Were you aware of how American weapons, the weapons that are being supplied to Ukraine, are used?" she asked.

"That trial tests of a terrorist attack against civilian infrastructure in third countries are being made? These are the questions that we directly pose in the public space before the White House; you must answer them," she said, adding that the attack on the Kakhovka HPP "is certainly an act of terrorism."

At only one week into the whale migration season and with 2022 being the worst whale entanglement season on record Sea Shepherd are calling on the Queensland government to commit to the removal of shark nets during whale migration season.

The distressed young whale was left overnight where it was forced to struggle alone before crews were able to free it around 8am the following morning, said a Seashepherd spokesperson.

The Ballina Shire Council has endorsed a revised list of areas considered for potential future development after the NSW planning department blocked its attempt to add State Significant Farmland (SSF).

Several council meetings last year featured debates over inclusion of the SSF, known as Area 28, between the plateau villages of Alstonville and Wollongbar.

Council staff at last months ordinary meeting reported 33 submissions on last years proposed Strategic Urban Growth Area (SUGA) list, most of them calling for state significant farmland and/or Area 28 to be excluded.

The calls echoed state planning department advice in November that it would only approve the updated list if two proposed new areas, including Area 28, were removed.

Council staff complied with the condition and councillors last month agreed on the shorter list but it seems some are still determined to see the land developed via other planning documents yet to be determined.

Developers eying off SSF for private hospital, affordable housing

Some specified they didnt want a new hospital built on the land.

How real estate agents get away with lying "IndyWatch Feed National"

The age old question of how do you know a politician is lying, is quite simply put when his (or now her) lips are moving.

Fraud in the real estate industry in Australia costs consumers dearly, every year and the government has very little intention to remedy this, as it is a 'stakeholder' in the fraud, raking in the dollars.

While the same may apply to realtors as it does to politicians when it comes to lying, there is another way to lie, and that is by staying silent.

MANY realtors keep quiet, when asked about a premises that they have been seconded to sell.

They know about the property, its faults and even structural issues, yet they claim they know nothing.

How can you prove it?

It's very difficult, but not impossible.

According to Consumer Affairs Victoria, the following is stated about silence.

Silence

A business can break the law by failing to give relevant information to a customer.

Silence can be misleading or deceptive when, for example:

  • one person fails to alert another to facts known only to them, and the facts are relevant to a decision
  • important details a person should know are not conveyed to them
  • a change in circumstance meant information already provided was incorrect.

Whether silence is misleading or deceptive will depend on the circumstances of each case.

Judge orders the Crown Prosecution Service to come clean about the destruction of key documents on Julian Assange "IndyWatch Feed National"

Julian Assanges case continues to drag on in London, where the United States is seeking to extradite him to face a lifetime in prison, in what are widely considered bogus charges. revelations about the destruction of important documents coming from a Freedom Of Information case, has compelled a judge to order the release of documents, and this is to Assanges benefit. Paul Knaggs wrote about this in Labour Heartlands (1 June 2023)

In a groundbreaking ruling on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case surrounding Julian Assange, Judge OConnor has ordered the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to reveal information regarding the destruction of key documents.

This decision marks the first crack in the wall of secrecy surrounding the case, which has faced years of obstruction.

WIKILEAKS state In addition to the ruling, Labour MP John McDonnell has just obtained new information from the Crown Prosecution Service. McDonnell is calling for an independent inquiry into the CPSs role in the Assange case.

For the last six years, all attempts to shed light on the destruction of key documents in the Julian Assange case, even though the emails were deleted when the high-profile, controversial case was still ongoing have been rejected.

When, How and Why

But now the British authorities at the Crown Prosecution Service have been ordered to come clean. They must declare whether they hold any information as to when, how and why documentation was deleted, and if they do hold any other documentation, they must either release it to the WikiLeaks team or clarify the grounds for their refusal.

There has always been controversy surrounding the emails between the Swedish prosecutors and their British counterparts.

The correspondence between the Swedish SPA and British CPS is absolutely crucial to understanding and reconstructing what really happened in the Swedish alleged rape allegation investigation.

That investigation was ultimately dropped once and for all without Assange ever being charged, but for almost a decade has deprived him of the empathy of public opinion.

Documents obtained and released under Freedom of Information requests to Italian magazine La Repubblica confirm the very close relationship between the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Sweden in...

Turkiyes Proposal For A Kakhovka Dam Investigation Committee Is A Genius Soft Power Move "IndyWatch Feed National"

BY ANDREW KORYBKO | JUNE 7, 2023

Turkish President Erdogan proposed the creation of a multilateral committee for investigating the Kakhovka Dam explosion during a call with President Putin on Wednesday. He suggested that it could comprise the two conflicting parties, the UN, and members of the international community such as his country, which has experience mediating between Moscow and Kiev during their grain deal talks. This was a genius soft power move thatll powerfully shape global perceptions about this incident.

Russia and Ukraine blame one another for this terrorist attack, and while many might have predicted that the US would take its proxys side, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Tuesday that we cannot say conclusively what happened at this point. This stance is almost certainly attributable to the fact that Ukrainian Major General Andrey Kovalchuk boasted to the Washington Post in December about how Kiev tested blowing up the dam with US-supplied HIMARS missiles late last year.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made sure that the entire world knew about this too by bringing it up during a press briefing the day after.

She rhetorically asked US officials Were you aware of how American weapons, the weapons that are being supplied to Ukraine, are used? That trial tests of a terrorist attack against civilian infrastructure in third countries are being made? These are the questions that we directly pose in the public space before the White House; you must answer them.

Considering that the US officially regards the dams destruction as a war crime, which its Alternative Representative to the UN for Special Political Affairs Robert Wood emphasized during Tuesdays Security Council meeting about this, it has every reason to support the investigation that Turkiye just proposed. As for Kiev, it insists that Russia was to blame, so refusing to participate in a truly neutral multilateral investigation would come off as incredibly suspicious by suggesting that it has something to hide.

The US and Ukraine, which are the principal antagonists in the...

Buyers Beware: Purchasing a Supreme Court Justice Could Lead to Pesky Questions "IndyWatch Feed National"

Whats the point of buying yourself a Supreme Court justice if pesky senators can just keep peppering you with questions about it? Thats what billionaire Harlan Crow must be thinking right about now.

On Tuesday, in response to Crows continued refusal to provide details on the expensive gifts and lavish vacations he heaped on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, the Senate Judiciary Committee issued a thinly veiled threat that they might subpoena him to get some answers.

It all started with a series of stories, the first one broken by ProPublica a couple of months ago, in which journalists revealed that the conservative justice has been on the receiving end of the billionaires largesse to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Thomas did not feel that it was necessary to disclose any of this.

Now, you may think its troubling that a billionaire is showering a Supreme Court justice with obscenely expensive luxuries whether its because they are close friends or to grease the wheels of justice a bit but dont worry.

Both Thomas and Crow have said that this is totally fine, so its probably all on the up-and-up.

But do you know who wont just accept the word of these two paragons of virtue? Senate Democrats.

They keep pestering Crow with questions about these gifts and even want the Supreme Court to put in place some ethics rules that would require justices to disclose when somebody hands them fistfuls of cash or equivalent gifts. The nerve, right?

In any case, last week, the billionaires lawyers told the Judiciary Committee to shove it, citing an issue with the separation of powers.

Next thing you know, these senators had the gall to inform Crow that he is not, in fact, a co-equal branch of government, and therefore the separation of powers does not apply to him. In defense of Crows attorney, who may not have been aware of this, it certainly seems as though billionaires are a branch of government these days, so maybe it was just an honest mistake.....

Together with China and Japan, India is one of the three leading Asian powers, whose mutual relations will increasingly determine the situation in the Asia-Pacific region as a whole. In turn, this latter is today in the focus of the current stage of the Great World Game. And if we can speak more or less definitely about the positioning of the first two countries at the table on which the global action is unfolding today, then Indias position at this table still looks transitional.

What are the initial and the end points of this transition and how far has it progressed? It is quite easy to answer the first part of this question. We are talking about the transition from the relatively neutral positioning of India at the previous stage of the Great World Game, called the Cold War, to the current one, in which the level of the mentioned neutrality is steadily decreasing. This is due to the drastic changes that have occurred over the past few decades both in the composition of the main players and in the weight of India itself in...

Protest Song Of The Week: Indignation By Divide and Dissolve "IndyWatch Feed National"

Originally published at Ongoing History of Protest Music

Divide and Dissolve is an Australian-based instrumental doom metal duo that features saxophonist and guitarist Takiaya Reed and percussionist Sylvie Nehill. For the female duo, the act of simply inhabiting a prominently white male genre space is political.

Reed is descended from indigenous people of the so-called United States. The duo also collectively stated: Our music is helping carve out space where it isnt supposed to be. Heavy music is apparently supposed to look, sound, and feel a certain way. Divide and Dissolve is and will continue to be a point of difference.

The abhorrent history of colonial violence, genocide, slavery, rape, and murder is still continuing today. It is this past, and the lasting and active power structures present in our world today that has driven me to prioritize decolonization, according to Nehill.

Divide & Dissolves intent is explicit with song titles such as Reparations, Resistance, Indigenous Sovereignty, Assimilation, and Cultural Extermination.

The duo recently released Indignation, a track off their upcoming fourth album Systemic due June 30. The tune is a prayer that land be given back to Indigenous people, explained Reed. A hope that future generations no longer experience the atrocities and fervent violence that colonization continues to bring forth.

They also released an accompanying video directed by Sepi Mashiahof. Mashiahof said of the visuals, In reflecting on the powerful and vital messaging found in Divide and Dissolves music: decolonization, the destruction of white supremacy, and liberation from oppressive structuresthis video is about the collective grief we experience about the lives we all could have were it not for the cruel and arbitrary systems of power that impede each and every one of our potentials.

The potential to truly love ourselves and each other is distorted by the agendas of vicious capitalist vultures who seek to emaciate our joys, bonds, and communities for their own gain. This video depicts an abstracted portrait of what suffering under these accelerating conditions feels like. Technology, dysphoria, dream-form sentience, transaction, and depersonalization constitute the thematic palette, laid upon the hope of shedding our current forms and transcending into boundless, beautiful ether.

Divide and Dissolve is proof that music doesnt need lyrics to deliver a potent social message. As Reed explained, I believe in the power of non-verbal communication. A huge percent of communication is non-verbal. We learn so much without...

How Unusual Is the Recent Dry Period? "IndyWatch Feed National"

I have gotten several nervous emails from folks concerned with the relatively dry period of the past month over the Pacific Northwest.

Are such dry conditions unprecedented?

Are late springs getting drier?

Is global warming behind it?  Or El Nino?

I will try to answer the questions below.

Let's check the numbers, starting with Seattle.  Below I have plotted the total precipitation for May 1 through June 5 for SeaTac Airport and added a best-fit trend line as well.

You will note that our recent period was dry, but not the driest by far.

In fact, a list of the driest May 1-June 5 periods shows that this last month was the 11th driest since the late 1940s.

About Yoon Suk-Yeols trip to Hiroshima and other meetings with European leaders. Part Three. Meetings with world leaders "IndyWatch Feed National"

Yoon Suk-Yeols trip to Hiroshima

Yoons invitation to the summit, according to First Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo, will be an opportunity to reaffirm our status as a global partner in defending the rules-based international order and responding to global challenges. Therefore, during his speech at the enlarged G7 session on May 20, the president of the Republic of Korea actively demonstrated a global Korea, mostly concerning humanitarian issues and fighting for all good things. As a result, Yoon pledged an additional $24 million (nearly tripling South Koreas previous contribution) to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation (CEPI), an Oslo-based international public-private partnership that funds independent research projects to develop vaccines against emerging viral threats. Yoon also announced intentions to expand the ASEAN+3 Emergency Rice Reserve and committed to boost rice production capacity in seven poor African countries through the K-rice belt project, which intends to share South Korean rice production technology with sub-Saharan African countries. Yoon also has vowed to double South Koreas rice aid to developing countries through the UN World Food Program from 50,000 tons to 100,000 tons.

At the second extended session on climate, energy and the environment, Yoon emphasized South Koreas plans to actively cooperate with the G7 to address climate issues in particular, announcing the decision to actively promote a carbon-neutral policy while encouraging new low-carbon industries.

Yoon Suk-yeol and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese decided to intensify their partnership in the defense and arms sectors on May 19.  Albanese expressed hope that the two countries will increase the frequency of regional military exercises in which both countries take part. The two leaders also agreed to work more closely together based on the common understanding that North Koreas unprecedented provocations pose a serious threat to peace and prosperity in the region...

Deserving Each Other: The PGA Tour-LIV Golf Merger "IndyWatch Feed National"

Described as acrimonious, divisive and disruptive to golf, the LIV Golf Tournament, launched with the aid of former world number one Greg Norman and an enormous well of capital fronted by Saudi Arabias Public Investment Fund (PIF), will now unite with the enemy. The announcement that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf would be merging would only have shocked the nave and a number of fox hole bleeding hearts. And there were a few, clearly ignorant of that powerful nexus between money, the privateer spirit and sporting administrators.

Dylan Wu, PGA Tour member, could be counted as one of them. He wondered why the PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, despite brimming hostility against LIV Golf had basically got a promotion to CEO of all golf in the world by going back on everything he said in the past 2 years? Having more or less answered his own question, Wu went on to express admiration for the LIV Golf renegade, Phil Mickelson, for whom he expressed gushing admiration. He went up in flames in the media cuz of his brutal honesty and now everyones finally realizing he was right and the PGA Tour does whatever they feel like.

Brandel Chamblee, a golf analyst, for they do exist, expressed his shock. I cant imagine that very many people outside the 2-3-4-5 people in the room and brought this merger to fruition would have known anything about it. Perhaps he should have asked the functionaries in Riyadh for clues or had a closer look at the black heart of the PGA Tour.

In the first season of LIV Golf events, the PGA Tour knew it was facing a formidable competitor that potentially threatened its existence. Each regular-season events total came to $25 million; $20 million was set aside for the individual event; $5 million went towards the team competition component. The ultimate winners earnings came to $4 million; the wooden spooner got a not negligible $120,000 for just turning up.

Off the field, the sides did legal battle. Most prominent was an antitrust lawsuit originally filed against the Tour by such LIV Golf exiles as Phil Mickelson. It was subsequently commandeered by LIV Golf. The Tour then filed a countersuit against LIV, convincing the courts that it could also add Saudi Arabias PIF and its governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, as co-defendants.

Given the House of Sauds indecent record on human rights, and its programmatic determination to use spor...

Is a Change of Course at State Department Coming? "IndyWatch Feed National"

Some senior officers are retiring but who and what will replace them?

BY PHILIP GIRALDI UNZ REVIEW JUNE 6, 2023

There are a lot of anonymous bureaucrats that man the offices in the nations capital. If one were to mention the name Wendy Sherman at a Washington DC cocktail gathering it is likely that few in the room will have ever heard of her, but she has long been one of the most important players in Democratic Party administrations when it comes to foreign policy in key parts of the world. Sherman, the Deputy Secretary of State, will be retiring this summer after more than thirty years with the Foreign Service. She has been a fixture in often controversial top level policy making since Bill Clinton was in the White House, where she served as a top adviser to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, also taking on the role of lead negotiator in the ultimately unsuccessful talks to stop North Koreas ballistic missile program in the late 1990s. With a return to power of the Democrats in 2008, she served as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs under Obama. To her credit, she was a lead negotiator with Iran on the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA), which Donald Trump acting on bad advice subsequently withdrew from.

More recently, Sherman has been a key part of the Biden administrations efforts to develop strategies to confront China in the Indo-Pacific and elsewhere whenever Beijing has sought to develop trade relationships with key suppliers of essential raw materials. This has included putting pressure on allies like Australia and New Zealand in the Pacific to reject Chinese commercial initiatives, elevating what began as competitive trade policies into a perception that China was becoming a threat to American national security. Sherman also played a significant role in encouraging international diplomatic and military support for Ukraine after Russias invasion.

Closed door deals on fast-tracked land rezonings "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

Up to 1,300 new dwellings could be accommodated in Byron Shire under vague draft fast-track development plans released by the NSW government-run Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation (NRRC) last week.

Describing it as a unique opportunity, the glossy The Resilient Land Strategy brochure by NRRC identifies, but does not disclose, north coast land that will be accelerated for delivery with funding support.

The plans indicate Saddle Road, located on the highway turn off to Brunswick Heads and Mullumbimby, could house up to 800 homes, while land bordering Bangalows south could accommodate 500 homes.

Another medium-term flood-free parcel of land is also pegged on the indicative map; it is located just west of Bangalow on Bangalow Road heading towards Lismore.

While NRRC are seeking public feedback on the proposals, the plans do not provide any framework that would ensure any newly released land would be affordable or directly benefit those affected by the 2022 floods.

However, there was mention of Financial support for social and affordable housing development, and Innovative housing pilot programs worth $100M.

Mute Mayor Michael

Mayor Michael Lyon, who has led closed doors discussions with NRRC, refused to comment to The Echo on the exact locations, nor why he excluded other councillors from negotiations.

Cr Peter Westheimer, who was elected on the mayors ticket, told The Echo he would have preferred to be involved.

Additionally, local NSW MP Tamara Smith (Greens), told The Echo she was briefed by the NRRC and was told they only consulted with mayors and general mangers.

She said, I would prefer a more transparent approach where the community genuinely gets to have a say about what will be significant developments across the region, and in the Ballina electorate.

322 expressions of interest were received across the region, say the NRRC, and a panel have identified 22 potential development sites across the Northern Rivers on both private and public land.

US DOE Sets Vision for Major Clean Hydrogen Scale-Up

From an Article by Lauren Craft, Energy Intelligence News, June 5, 2023

US DOE of President Joe Bidens administration has rolled out a national clean hydrogen strategy that acts as an important signal for the emerging industry, but leaves unanswered questions about which types of hydrogen would be promoted.

The 99-page strategy aims to set a unified vision around scaling up US clean hydrogen production to 50 million metric tons by 2050, which would in turn cut 10% of US greenhouse gas emissions between now and then.

That 10% reduction would see decreases from multiple sectors of the economy particularly hard-to-decarbonize industries where hydrogen is increasingly eyed as a replacement for fossil fuels.

In the industrial sector, this includes segments like cement and steel, and in transportation, this includes heavy-duty trucking, maritime vessels and aviation, explained White House Climate Adviser Ali Zaidi in a call with reporters. The plan also eyes clean hydrogen uptake in agricultural sectors and energy use within buildings, Zaidi added.

Despite the broad appeal of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, (IRA) the US has faced criticism for mixed messages on the energy transition, with investors finding it difficult to reconcile sometimes-conflicting signals from various agencies, lawmakers and states. The new strategy marks an attempt to deliver more clarity on the clean hydrogen front while rallying the government around a unified goal and earning consensus and mutual trust from the private sector.

Biden administration officials said they canvassed views of industry and other stakeholders beforehand and used those to shape the strategy.

US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said a major objective of the new strategy is to provide certainty across the different points in the clean hydrogen value chain.

When youre creating an entirely new sector which is what the clean hydrogen economy will be you have to do everything, everywhere all at once, she said in a call with reporters. That means looking at supply-side strategy, the workforce, the offtake strategy to make sure there.........

Russia Considers Retaliatory Steps After Japan Introduces New Package of Sanctions MFA

Japan also decided to impose export restrictions on 80 Russian entities

MOSCOW, June 5. /TASS/. Moscow is considering retaliatory steps to the fresh batch of anti-Russian sanctions by Tokyo, and will not let them pass without a reaction, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said on Monday.

"Indeed, at the end of May, a new package of sanctions was published, which we took very negatively, of course. We are currently considering retaliatory steps, this will not remain without a reaction," the deputy minister said, answering a relevant question from TASS.

The Japanese government has expanded sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, 24 individuals and 78 entities have been added to the sanctions list. The sanctions in particular stipulate that if any assets from these individuals are found in Japan, they will be seized. Among those affected by the sanctions are representatives of the command of the Russian Armed Forces, general director of the Almaz-Antey concern Yan Novikov, journalist Olga Skabeeva, the National Wealth Fund, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and the Gorky Automobile Plant.

Japan also decided to impose export restrictions on 80 Russian entities, including the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, the Lavochkin scientific development and production center, PJSC KamAZ, MegaFon, the Skolkovo Foundation and Skoltech.

Berberine inhibits the growth of osteosarcoma through modulating MMP/NM-23 and MAPK/JNK signal pathways. "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

PMID:  Am J Transl Res. 2023 ;15(2):729-744. Epub 2023 Feb 15. PMID: 36915782 Abstract Title:  Berberine inhibits the growth of osteosarcoma through modulating MMP/NM-23 and MAPK/JNK signal pathways. Abstract:  OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of berberine (BBR) on the migration, invasion, proliferation and apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells in vitro.METHODS: Proliferation of MG-63 and U2OS cells was measured by the CCK-8 assay. Cells migration was examined by wound-healing assay. The invasion and metastasis of cells were evaluated by transwell invasion assay. Cells apoptosis was determined by the flow cytometry. Caspase-3 activity in MG-63 and U2OS cells was measured, and Western blot was used to measure the levels of Bax, Bcl-2, MMP-2 and MMP-9 in cells. In addition, the osteosarcoma graft tumor model of mice was established. The tumorigenesis of MG-63 cells in nude mice was compared among three groups. Immunohistochemistry assay was used to measure the levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 and NM-23 in tumor tissue.RESULTS: It was showed that BBR inhibited the proliferation of MG-63 and U2OS cells in vitro in time- and concentration-dependent manners. Moreover, BBR reduced the cells migration and invasion, also down-regulated the expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9. BBR also inhibited the cells apoptosis by down-regulating the expression of Bcl-2 and up-regulating the expression of Bax. In nude mice, BBR obviously inhibited the tumorigenesis of MG-63 cells. Compared with the negative group, BBR decreased the levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 and increased the level of NM-23. The molecular mechanism was associated with activation of the MAPK/JNK signal transduction pathway.CONCLUSIONS: BBR significantly regulates the biological behaviors of osteosarcoma cells and inhibits the growth of osteosarcoma. The molecular mechanism may be associated with the modulation of MMP/NM-23 and MAPK/JNK signals. BBR may be a potential drug for the treatment of osteosarcoma.

Could This Common Supplement Be the Answer to Tumors? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a precursor for glutathione biosynthesis, is a common dietary supplement that could hold a secret to treating tumors resistant to conventional cancer drugs. Researchers with the Department of Biomedicine of the University of Basel in Switzerland, found NAC restores the sensitivity of breast cancer cells to treatment.1

NAC is already valued in the medical field for helping increase glutathione in the body, which prevents liver damage in cases of acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose. It also reduces acetaldehyde toxicity,2 which causes many hangover symptoms. But, it seems, NAC is living up to its reputation as an old drug with new tricks, as the featured study suggests it may significantly improve treatment of advanced breast cancer.

NAC May Help Fight Resistant Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with more than 2.2 million cases developing annually.3 Among women with recurring disease, survival rates have barely improved in the last two decades. Most recurring metastatic cancers are either drug resistant or will become resistant to therapy, researchers wrote in Cell Reports Medicine. Thus, drug resistance is a substantial hurdle in the long-lasting cure of patients.4

About 70% of breast cancers have mutations in genes that affect the PI3K signaling pathway.5 The overactivation of PI3K promotes tumor development, which is why the drug alpelisib (brand name Piqray) a PI3K-selective inhibitor is often used to treat it. Resistance to the drug, however, is a serious problem.

Unfortunately, it turned out that the success of the medication is severely limited by resistance, researcher Mohamed Bentires-Alj said in a University of Basel news release. Hence, we urgently need to find out more about how resistance arises.6

The team found mutations that turn off production of a protein called NF1, which suppresses tumor growth, were involved in cancers resistant to alpelisib. The absence of NF1 is the elephant in the room; it throws everything into disarray within the cell and hinders successful treatment, Bentires-Alj said.7

With NF1 lost, the team found cells produce less energy via their mitochondria and rely more on other energy production pathways. NAC, an antioxidant, affects energy metabolism similarly, so the researchers expected it would have similar effects in...

Organic Honey Bee Hives Can Be as Productive and Healthy as Conventional Hives, Study Finds "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Organic farming methods mean less pesticides in our soil and food. They ensure agricultural runoff wont contain toxic chemicals that can make their way into our waterways, polluting the water supply and potentially harming wildlife and ecosystems. They also consider animal welfare.

So why do farmers continue to use synthetic pesticides? The answer is simple: yield. They worry giving up the pesticides will mean sacrificing the health and productivity of crops.

The same philosophy applies to the management of honey bee colonies. But a new study has shown beekeepers who employ organic methods can have honey bee colonies that are as productive and healthy as those managed using synthetic pesticides.

According to new research led by entomologists from Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), organically managed colonies can achieve similar results to those that are managed using conventional methods, but without the use of synthetic pesticides to keep pathogens and pests under control, a press release from Penn State said.

The study, A longitudinal experiment demonstrates that honey bee colonies managed organically are as healthy and productive as those managed conventionally, was published in the journal Scientific Reports.

For the study, the researchers compared honey bee performance in three management systems, and was the first to demonstrate that the organic management of h...

YouTube Reverses Misinformation Policy to Allow US Alleged Election Denialism "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

  • YouTube announced that it will no longer remove content featuring false claims of widespread election fraud in the 2020 presidential race.
  • The decision, which comes ahead of the 2024 presidential races, undoes a policy implemented in December 2020 after President Joe Biden allegedly won the election, citing the need to balance its twin goals of protecting our community and providing a home for open discussion and debate.
  • YouTube said there are still aspects of its election misinformation policy that remain, including highlighting authoritative sources in search and recommendations and prohibiting posts that aim to mislead voters on where and how to vote.

Indeed, YouTube may be making a half-hearted move to appear fair and objective, but free speech advocates are not convinced this move is genuine.

Arjun Singh from the Daily Caller News Foundation reports

YouTube reversed its misinformation policy regarding content about elections on Friday and will now permit content that questions the veracity of the 2020 presidential election results, according to the companys website.

YouTubes parent company Google has a policy that prohibits content advancing false claims that widespread fraud, errors, or glitches occurred in certain past elections to determine heads of government, and Youtube...
