The Israeli Company Hacking Into Your Locked Mobile Phone "IndyWatch Feed National"

The use of military grade spyware by Australian government departments means our most personal data stored on our mobile phones from financial details, contacts, and private photos, to an archive of messages and movements is no longer secret.

The Israeli surveillance company Cellebrite's forensic tool, Universal Forensic Extraction Device (UFED), is used to crack mobile phones across the world. (Photo: Cellebrite)

From the provision of spyware and equipment, to electronic hardware and training programs, Israeli technology company Cellebrite is an integral part of Australias security infrastructure.

A look at the AusTender website, where federal government contracts are listed, details 128 contracts between Australian government agencies and the Israeli company since 2011.

Cellebrite is an Israeli digital intelligence company, staffed by former Israeli military and intelligence officers, that is now commonly used by law enforcement across the globe to hack and access data   yet barely anybody in the public has heard of it.

During the writing of my new book, The Palestine Laboratory, it was a firm that featured heavily. The most infamous Cellebrite spyware tool, the Universal Forensics Extraction Device (UFED), has been deployed by some of the most repressive states in the world, such as Russia and ...

Online course for waste management solutions "IndyWatch Feed National"

CSIROs new ten-week online program is open to small to medium enterprises.

The CSIRO is holding a free, ten-week online program open to small to medium enterprises currently working in the plastics or recycling industry, or looking to offer new technology or solutions relating to waste management.

CSIRO conducts award-winning plastics research in both marine and terrestrial environments, pioneering the recycling industry by optimizing recycling technologies and systems in Australia and beyond with their Ending Plastic Waste Mission.

Together with the government and industry, CSIRO plans to reduce plastic waste by 80 per cent by 2030. Currently, only 12.4 per cent of plastic waste is recycled in Australia, out of more than one million tonnes of plastic waste produced annually.

145,000 tons of plastic

About 145,000 tons of plastic finds its way into our environment each year, which has a devastating effect on our local wildlife and ecosystems.

The solution lies in collaboration between researchers and enterprises to provide innovation and technologies in plastic sectors worldwide.

Commencing on 7 September, CSIROs free program will help assess the viability of your innovation, as well as make informed business decisions as to whether the Research and Design course is right for you.

Limited spots remain, and registrations close on 14 August. To register, go to https://www.csiro.au/innovateplasticwaste.

New joint spy centre betrays Australia and drives toward war "IndyWatch Feed National"

Contributed by Ben Wilson

American military analysts are to be sent to work at the Defence Intelligence Organisation (DIO) in Canberra under the guise of establishing a Combined Intelligence Centre  Australia.  The move sold as a means to strengthen cooperation.

This assumes an equal relationship between two partners. The reality though, is that policy is directed from Washington, and this means the nature of the partnership is that Washington calls the shots. American spies will be embedded in the Defence Department, which gives them access to all part of the military and government policy. Allowing any of this is an outrage.

Every one of us should be angry about the eagerness of the political elite of this country, Whether Coalition or Labor, to sell out the nation and to a foreign power and putting all Australian citizens. at risk.

The decision to combine the intelligence organisations of the two countries was formally agreed to at the AUSMIN talks last Saturday. It means that Australias intelligence services will become more thoroughly integrated into and under the command of the Intelligence organisations of the United States.

Photo from the Australian Defence Force: Defence Minister Richard Marles (left) with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin

Supporting this assessment is the refusal of the Australian government to tell the public what this so-called cooperation will be working on? But analysts form both countries say this is likely to be connected to the tilt against China and used in the South China Sea region and more. It will be used as a proxy for targeting Pacific Island nations, and our bigger neighbours, most who which are seeking to gain greater independence.

Defence Minister Richard Marles made the announcement of the new intelligence centre after taking US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin to Townsville to meet military personnel taking part in the Talisman Sabre militar...

Missing Persons Week: Can you solve this case? "IndyWatch Feed National"

The man known only as Andy was located deceased on 28 August 2014. Photo AFP.

Yesterday was the launch of the 2023 National Missing Persons Week, which concludes on Saturday. This year the Can you solve this case? campaign is focused on eight cases involving unidentified human remains.

While forensic experts continue to examine the remains, police hope the public can piece together other clues that could help match them with one of the more than 2500 long-term missing persons cases on file in Australia.

The AFPs National Missing Persons Coordination Centre, working with state and territory law enforcement agencies, has created an online investigative board to provide amateur sleuths with a detailed detectives overview of the cases.

Vital clues such as clothing and objects found at the scene of the human remains and craniofacial reconstructions can be viewed in 3D animation.

Cutting-edge technology

The craniofacial reconstruction highlights how the AFP uses cutting-edge technology to continue investigating old cases.

As part of its National DNA Program for Unidentified and Missing Persons (Program) capabilities, AFP forensic specialists are able to use new tools to estimate an unidentified individuals year of birth and death, ancestral origin, hair and eye colour, facial appearance and genetic relatives.

Act now to make the Australian Government end the illegal imprisonment and torture of Julian Assange - an open letter to members of the Assange Parliamentary Support Group "IndyWatch Feed National"

Dear Andrew Wilkie,

On 9 June you said, "Its deeply disappointing that the United Kingdom High Court has denied Julian Assange the right to appeal his extradition to the United States.

Mr Assange is an Australian citizen and journalist, whose matter should not even be before a court, as the case has always been an intensely political matter. Enough is enough. The US must drop the extradition and discontinue these charges immediately. And the Australian Government must continue to speak up and push for an immediate end to this matter as Julians life is at stake."

Could I first remind you that, by 9 June, Julian Assange, who had broken no British Law, had been illegally locked away for 23 hours per day in solitary confinement in Belmarsh Prison for more than four years?

Given that Assange stands, very soon, to be extradited to face a fate, even worse than what he has already been made to endure at Belmarsh - solitary confinement for the rest of his life in a United States Maximum Security Prison - a fate he considers worse than death - isn't it time, that, as convenor of the 48 member Bring Home Julian Assange Parliamentary Support Group (Assange Support Group),  you reflect upon your actions, or lack thereof, for those last four years and question whether the Assange Support Group could have been more effective?

An examination of Hansard shows me that the last time any attempt was made in Parliament to properly hold the government to account for its failure to act to support Assange, was on 2 December 2021 - more than 18 months ago -  when you tried to move for a suspension of Standing Orders so that you could put your foreshadowed motion which called upon the then Morrison Government to act to free Assange. Outrageously, that procedural motion was declared lost. So, according to the Speaker, a majority of MPs, on that day, voted against you putting to Parliament the case for the government to act to free Australia's most famous and most revered citizen - Julian Assange.

So, how many Australians do you think are aware that a majority of MPs behaved so badly on that day?  In my view, and, I expect, the view of most Australians, any MP who voted on that day to prevent debate on Assange on the floors of Parliament is not fit to sit in that Parliament and should be made to resign. Yet, because you failed to call for a division, we don't know the names of those MPs.

Since that day, little else has been done in support of Assange in our Parliament. Of the 48 members of the  Assange Support Group, Hansard shows me that only on two occasions was the government ever questioned about Assange, by Janet Rice and Doctor Monique Ryan. Only a handful of repres...

Morality Police: Who will prosecute the prosecutors? "IndyWatch Feed National"

Oh, this is odious yet delicious.

In 2022, Irans morality police (who could give the Shahs SAVAK a run for their money in the brutality olympics) arrested and murdered Mahsa Amini, a 22 year old Kurdish woman, for how she covered (or didnt cover) her hair.  Her murder led to nearly a year of protests in Iran that still continue.  Just yesterday, the Iranian regime arrested Behrooz Behzadi, editor-in-chief of Etemad, for factually reporting on the censorship of journalists, artists and others during the protests.

The head of the morality police is Reza Tsaghati, a strict hardliner.  Well, if by hardliner youre referring to his penetration.

On Wednesday, a video was posted to Telegram showing a man, reported to be Tsaghati, engaging in sexual acts with another man.  The Iranian regime has temporarily suspended him from his position.

If this turns out to be true, were in for some interesting events.  In the past, the regime has given its hypocritical and patriarchal religious leaders a slap on the wrist for things they do.  Iran is a fascist theist state which murders (executes) LGBTQIA people for consensual sex acts.  Will they protect one of their own (likely only persecuting the partner in the video), or enact justice the way they would against powerless citizens?

From QNews Australia, an LGBTQIA site:

Iran suspends morality enforcer over gay sex vid

The Iranian regime suspended senior morality enforcer Reza Tsaghati over a gay sex vid on Wednesday.

Reza Tsaghati was the head of culture and Islamic guidance in Gilan province. He previously founded a cultural centre focused on piety and the hijab. As Gilan provinces chief morality enforcer, he was known for his strict enforcement of mandatory hijab-wearing by women.

Iranian hardliners are still trying to make up ground over missteps following the death of Mahsa Amini last year. The young Kurdish woman died in police custody. She endured a severe beating by Guidance Patrol officers who arrested her for wearing her hijab improperly.

Mahsa Aminis death triggered ongoing nationwide protests.

The gay sex vid posted to a Telegram channel allegedly shows Reza Tsaghati having sex with a young man.

The authenticity of the gay sex vid remains unverified with neither man positively iden...

AUSMIN and Assange: The Great Vassal Smackdown "IndyWatch Feed National"

It was there for all to see.  Embarrassing, cloying, and bound make you cough up the remnants of your summit lunch, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III stopped by one of the vassal states to make sure that the meal and military service was orderly, the troops well behaved, and the weapons working as they should.  On the occasion of 2023 AUSMIN meetings, the questions asked were mild and generally unprovocative; answers were naturally tailored.

Seeing that Australia is now rapidly moving into the US orbit of client status its minerals will be designated a US domestic resource in due course and given that its land, sea and air are to be more available than ever for the US armed forces, nuclear and conventional, nothing will interrupt this inexorable extinguishing of sovereignty.

One vestige of Australian sovereignty might have evinced itself, notably in how Canberra might push for the release, or at the very least better terms, for the Australian national and founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange.  The publisher faces 18 counts, all but one of them pertaining to the Espionage Act of 1917, an archaic, wartime act with a dark record of punishing free speech and contrarians.  The Albanese government, eschewing the hailer approach in favour of quiet diplomacy and not offending Washington, has conspicuously failed to make any impression.

In April, an open letter to the US Attorney General, Merrick Garland, featuring 48 Australian MPs and Senators, including 13 from the governing Labor Party, argued that the Assange prosecution would set a dangerous precedent for all global citizens, journalists, publishers, media organizations and the freedom of the press.  It would also be needlessly damaging for the US as a world leader on freedom of expression and the rule of law.

Despite such concerns bubbling away in Parliament, Australias Foreign Minister Penny Wong was in no danger of upsetting their guests.  [W]e have made clear our view that Mr Assanges case has dragged for too long, and our desire it be brought to a conclusion, and weve said that publicly and you would anticipate that that reflects also the positive we articulate in private.  But, as ever, there are limits until Mr. Assanges legal processes have concluded.  The assumption, laid bare, is that Australia will only push for terms once the US secures its treasured quarry.

Russia is ready for confrontation with NATO Putin "IndyWatch Feed National"

RT.com July 29, 2023

Russia is always ready for any scenario, President Vladimir Putin told journalists on Saturday, commenting on a potential direct confrontation between the Russian and NATO militaries. The president was answering a question about recent near-collisions involving Russian and American aircraft in Syria.

No one wants that, the president added, pointing to the existing conflict-prevention lines that allow Russian and US officers to talk directly about any crisis situation. That fact that these lines still work shows that no side is interested in a conflict, he added. If someone wants it and thats not us then were ready, Putin added.

The Russian military has reported a total of 23 dangerous incidents involving Russian aircraft and those of the US-led coalition since early 2023, said Admiral Oleg Gurinov, the head of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria. Most incidents took place in July, he added.

In 11 cases the Russian pilots recorded being targeted with Western aircraft-targeting systems. Such actions on the part of the US-led coalition led to the automatic engagement of onboard defense systems, which saw Russian aircraft releasing decoy flares, the admiral told journalists.

Moscow has also repeatedly warned Washington and its allies about the risks of a potential direct conflict between Russia and NATO, particularly amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Continued Western arms supplies to Kiev only extend the hostilities and make its Western backers engage in the conflict even deeper, Russia said.

This pro-mask study is why you should NEVER Trust the Science "IndyWatch Feed National"

Kit Knightly Off-Guardian July 27, 2023

Last week it was reported that the Australian state of Victoria may be considering permanent facemask mandates to achieve zero-Covid.

Now, we dont need to get into the personal liberty implications of such a law, or  the near-infinite supply of evidence that masks dont work to prevent the transmission of respiratory disease.

They dont work, they never worked. Mandating them was a political move designed to make the fake Covid pandemic appear real, and their continued use is a symptom of brainwashing or a by-product of chronic virtue signaling.

The mask debate, such as it was, is over.

No, the only aspect of this development worth talking about is the evidence used to support the position and trust me, the quotes are entirely justified.

The study which claims to demonstrate the benefits of permanent masking was published in the Medical Journal of Australia last week and titled Consistent mask use and SARSCoV2 epidemiology: a simulation modelling study.

Simulation modelling study is very much the key phrase there. For those who dont know,  simulation modelling studies involve feeding data into a computer programme, then asking it to form conclusions.

Clearly, they are only as reliable and useful as the data you use. In fact, you can very easily make them produce any result you want by feeding in  the right (bad) data.

In this particular modelling study they started out by telling the computer that cloth masks reduce transmission by 53% and respirators reduced it by 80%:

Odds ratios for the relative risk of infection for people exposed to an infected person (wearing a mask v not wearing a mask) were set at 0.47 for cloth and surgical masks and 0.20 for respirators

Essentially, they told their computer that masks prevent diseaseand then said ok, computer, since you now know masks prevent disease   what would happen if everybody wore them all the time?

The computer then told them obviously   that nobody would get sick.

Because they made it logically impossible for it to say anything else.

But theres a bit more to it.

The next layer of interest is where they got their input data from.

After all there have been dozens of studies done on masks over the years, 98% of which say masks dont w...

The Voice Is About Equity And Has Nothing To Do With Race "IndyWatch Feed National"

The Voice to Parliament is not about race, its about equity. Its not racially divisive, but it is divisive, and justifiably so. And although the referendum singles out Indigenous Australians, it is not predicated on race a lawyerly point to be examined further, writes DJ Wexler.

Division is not inherently a bad thing. We divide schools into different year levels. Sports clubs are assorted into separate mens and womens streams and are further splintered into leagues of skill and ability. By extension, are womens domestic abuse hotlines sexist? Is the disability support pension ableist? No. They are government programs addressing the unique challenges faced by vulnerable members of society. Unique problems are treated uniquely. The division the Voice makes is analogical but in a significantly, assiduously constructed, and expanded fashion.

It begs the question, what do we mean by Indigenous Australian if it is not based on race? And how can we justify their unique treatment?

Firstly, we need reminding that the Voice has been worked on and picked over by constitutional lawyers, politicians, and Indigenous representatives from across the country since 2015. And more recently, the Joint Select Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum addressed questions opponents of the Voice frequently and disingenuously exploit to sow seeds of uncertainty in an impressionable public.

During the committee hearing, Professor Anne Twomey points out a lawyerly, but clear, distinction. The referendum does not refer to Aboriginal and Indigenous Australians by race, it refers to them by reference to their being Australias first peoples, which is made clear at the start of the referendum question: A Proposed Law to recognise the First Peoples of Australia, and in the proposed law itself: In recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia.

Anne Twomey continued: The provision is there simply because of the status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australias first peoples with the consequences [being their]important role in Australia...

Experts Reveal 11 Social Media Habits That Mean A Man Is Unhappy In A Relationship "IndyWatch Feed National"

Social media has become an integral part of our lives, providing a platform for sharing experiences and staying connected with friends and family. However, it can also be a window into someones emotional state, including their marital happiness. While social media is not a definitive tool to gauge someones emotions accurately, certain habits and patterns may suggest underlying issues in a marriage. In this article, well explore ten social media habits that could potentially indicate a husbands unhappiness in his marriage. Remember, its crucial not to jump to conclusions solely based on social media, as open communication and understanding are key to addressing any marital concerns.

Decreased Frequency of Couple Photos

If a husband was once enthusiastic about posting pictures with his spouse but has now stopped, it might be a sign of underlying dissatisfaction in the relationship. Fewer couple photos could imply a lack of interest or emotional distance between the partners.

Absence of Expressions of Love

A husband who used to publicly express affection and love for his spouse on social media but has stopped doing so might be experiencing emotional turmoil in the marriage. A decline in sweet messages and romantic gestures could indicate unresolved issues.

Constantly Liking Other Womens Photos

Its perfectly normal to look at other people when youre married but if your husband is always the first one to like every Instagram models post, we might have a problem. Viewing and liking arent always an issue. Commenting and direct messages can be. It also says a lot about how we feel about the people in our lives when we see something that evokes a positive emotion, who do we choose to share it with?

Frequent Solo Outings and Activities

A sudden increase in posts about solo outings, hobbies, or activities without any mention of the spouse might suggest a desire for independence or escapism. It could indicate a need to find happiness outside the marriage.

Engaging with Relationship-Related Content

When a husband starts interacting with content related to unhappy marriages, divorce, or relationship challenges, it could signify that he is seeking answers or relating to these issues personally.

Secretive Online Behavior

If a husband becomes overly secretive about his online activities, such as hiding friend lists, posts, or messages from his partner, it may indicate potential emotional disconnection or involvement in inappropriate conversations.

Increased Time on Social Media

Spending excessive amounts of time on social media might be an attempt to escape from real-life problems, including marital issues. This behavior could lead to further disengagement from the relatio...

Why a Low-Sodium Diet Might Wreck Your Health "IndyWatch Feed National"

Editor's Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published December 3, 2017.

Is salt bad for your blood pressure? James DiNicolantonio, Pharm.D., answers this and many other questions relating to salt in his book, "The Salt Fix: Why the Experts Got It All Wrong and How Eating More Might Save Your Life." DiNicolantonio is a doctor of pharmacy, and it was during his work as a community pharmacist that his interest in this culinary staple emerged.

"[P]atients were put on this low-salt diet and were having all these symptoms like muscle fatigue, muscle spasms, cramps and heart palpitations. They said their doctors ordered them to not add salt to their food because they have high blood pressure. Yet they were suffering from all these new symptoms symptoms of salt deficiency.

What I ended up doing is kind of pushing back and telling my patients, 'You know, you really need to go to your doctor's office. Tell them these symptoms that you're having, and get your blood-sodium levels drawn because you might be deficient in salt.'

Sure enough, these people were severely dehydrated. They had low sodium levels in the blood. Within a few days of just upping their salt intake, all of these symptoms went away. Right there, I knew that this low salt advice was just not panning out in the real world."

In some cases, the patients' sodium levels were so low their doctors actually ended up reducing or eliminating their prescription for diuretics, which are commonly prescribed for high blood pressure, and instructed them to start adding salt back to their food.

This is an important lesson because, while it's actually hard to consume harmful amounts of sodium, it's easy to end up with too little. These real-world experiences prompted DiNicolantonio to write his book, in which he also provides a historical perspective about the use of salt.

The Voice: Careful What You Wish For "IndyWatch Feed National"

Will a Voice to parliament for Australias Indigenous peoples really come from, and represent, the nations most marginalised? Dr Monica Seini weighs in.

We, non-Indigenous Australians, need to turn the lens on ourselves in the debate on the upcoming Referendum on Constitutional recognition of an Indigenous Australian Voice. Will the Referendum prompt us to acknowledge the history of our present, and truly open our ears to an Indigenous voice, whatever that may look like?

I am by no means advising people to vote no, nor am I against a change to the Constitution. I am offering caution.

It will not be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who decide the outcome of the referendum.

Almost 97% of people in Australia are non-Indigenous; hence, those of voting age within this majority will determine the outcome. A year ago, on 30 July 2022, our newly elected Prime Minister Albanese spoke at the Garma Festival on Yolngu Country. The PM encouraged people to vote with their heart and vote Yes.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, pictured speaking at the 2022 Garma Festival in the Northern Territory.

If the Yes vote is successful, we so-called woke folk will be ecstatic. We will pat ourselves on the back for gifting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples a Voice regarding their own affairs, on their own Country. Land that has never been ceded. What then?

It will not be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who decide how the Voice will be enacted if the Referendum is successful.

It is the Parliament that will decide how the Voice will look, and sound. According to our Prime Minister: The Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws with respect to the composition, functions, powers and procedures of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Writing the Voice into the Constitution means a willingness to listen wont depend on who is in government or who is Prime Minister.

We do not, to date, know what The Voice will look or sound like. We can, however, safely assume it will indeed be subject to change depen...

Russia is ready for confrontation with NATO Putin

Moscow does not want a conflict with the Western-led bloc but is ready for any outcome, Russian president says

Vladimir Putin looks on during a meeting at the Russia Africa Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, July 28, 2023   AP / Alexander Ryumin

Mandala as a MedARTation-a Portal to the Reflective Self. "IndyWatch Feed National"

I have been creating a Mandalas for many years and began by creating colouring pages with affirmations for relaxation for women in domestic violence shelters. Many of those Mandala designs then went on to become my first book The Big Girls Little Colouring Book.

I often think of Mandalas as a kind of portal, an entry point, and by engaging the hands, focusing the mind and relaxing the breath we enter into a non-invasive, relaxed, slightly altered state that can give access to the wisdom of the inner self and ideas and thoughts that are not constrained by every day patterns of thinking.

The following are a few examples of how the Mandala, which is a Sanskrit word meaning Circle, have uses in a wide range of areas specifically related to relaxation, creativity, insight and expanding consciousness:

  1. Mandalas as Archetypal Symbols:
In mysticism and psychology, mandalas are regarded as powerful archetypal symbols that tap into the collective unconscious. They represent a microcosm of the universe and reflect patterns found in nature, creating a bridge between the individual and the cosmic....

The indefensible status quo: How defense contractors are hiding reverse-engineering programs, and fleecing the public "IndyWatch Feed National"

As most of my readers likely know by now, there was a historic UFO hearing that took place in the House of Representatives on July 26th, 2023. Former Navy pilots Ryan Graves and Dave Fravor, along with former NRO and NGA official David Grusch, spoke before the House Oversight Committee on their experiences with UFOs during their time inside the US government. At this point, the hearing has been covered by journalists and other analysts in detail that would be redundant to rehash again here, so my intention in this article is to provide context on a specific point that I personally find significant and may have implications beyond what may appear at the surface level. Grusch revealed that there has been significant wrongdoing by certain defense contractors in the name of UFO secrecy. In his interview with Australian journalist Ross Coulthart, he mentioned that he was aware of white-collar crime that had been committed to cover up the reality of UAP, and there were a few clues he...

Coutts Four Denied Bail, in Prison in Canada for over 500 Days without Trial. Are they Political Prisoners? "IndyWatch Feed National"

Over five hundred and twenty-five days ago, between the evening of February 13 and afternoon of February 14, 2022, four men were arrested for their participation in Freedom Convoy protests at the Alberta border town of Coutts.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit murder of police officers in support of a plot to overthrow the Government of Canada. They have been dubbed the Coutts Four.

The accused are self-employed fisherman Chris Carbert, who ran a landscaping and fencing business with nine employees. A Lethbridge, Alberta, resident, 42-year-old Carbert is a single father who has been raising his son since the boy was nine-months-old.

Another Lethbridge resident, and best friend of Chris Carbert since public school, is 49-year-old Chris Lysak. He is an electrician and father of two girls.

A third member of the Coutts Four accused of conspiracy to commit murder is 41-year-old Jerry Morin. He is a lineman who grew up near Vulcan, Alberta. The CBC states he resided in Olds, Alberta, at the time of his arrest. The fourth accused of these serious charges is Anthony Tony Olienkick. Tony, age 40, took part of the clean-up in High River, Alberta, after the 2013 floods.[1] He has a gravel truck and is self-employed, and the CBC has reported his home is in Claresholm, Alberta.

The Coutts Four have been denied bail. They have remained in custody for over 525 days with a trial date yet to be set. More pretrial motions will be heard between July 25 to 28 by the crown and defence lawyers at the Lethbridge court house. Since the Magna Carta was signed in 1215, kingdoms and democracies have allowed those charged with a crime to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. With that provision has come the right to be granted bail and to a speedy trial. When citizens are accused of a crime and left to rot in prison without having their day in court, their spirits can be broken and be persuaded to agree to plead guilty even when they are innocent.

Bail Is Granted to Those Accused of Having Committed Murder, and Lesser Charges in Canada

In Canada, when someone is charged with committing a crime, they are released on bail. This includes for those charged with murder. For example, on September 2021, 31-year-old Umar Zameer was released on bail after being charged with first-degree murder of Toronto Police Constable Jeffrey Northrup.[2] In April 2022, Marlena Isnardy was released on bail after while awaiting her trial for the charge of murdering 27-year-old Matthew Cholette in Kelowna, British Columbia.[3] A case of double murder in the city of Mission in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, concerned the deaths of Lisa Dudley and her boyfriend Guthrie McKay. Accused of first-degree murder, Tom Holden was released on bail.[4] And in March 2023, 22-year-old Ali Mian was released on bail as he awaited trial to answer to charges of second....

Barbie Pathologies: Its All About a Doll "IndyWatch Feed National"

As the ancient Greeks reminded us, bone cold definitions as starting points are essential in any discussion.  One current discussion, insignificant to posterity but amusing for advertisers and the presently bored, is the ludicrous reactions to a plastic doll rendered into celluloid form.  And as a doll, it can be no other.  Mattels Barbie has become, courtesy of Greta Gerwig, a talking point so silly it deserves to be treated trivially.  But money, advertising, and Mattel, wont allow that.

Commentators, whatever their ilk, cannot help themselves.  Jourdain Searles, evidently struggling to earn a crust or two, asks two banal questions.  This first: In a cinematic landscape drowning in IP, would a live-action film about the Barbie doll, Mattels flagship toy, be held up as proof of the continued commodification of cinema as an artform?  The second is not much of an improvement: And in a more progressive cultural landscape, could a woman-directed film about Barbie dolls be feminist?  Not necessarily.

The New York Times does not disappoint in its silliness. Can a doll with an ingratiating smile, impossible curves and boobs ready for liftoff be a feminist icon?  No, it cannot, but stating something so embarrassingly asinine is very much in character with this field.

From the conservative, domestic, home stove huggers, this is distinctly not on.  Ben Shapiro of the Daily Wire lamented the unironic use of the word patriarchy more than 10 times.  Toby Young in The Spectator moaned that, The film is a gender studies seminar disguised as a summer blockbuster,.  Kyle Smith, formerly a National Review critic, echoed the grievance in the Wall Street Journal.  As bubbly as the film appears, its script is like a grumpier-than-average womens studies seminar.

Young goes a bit deeper in opining that Barbie is an act of self-flagellation a way of doing penance for a sin of being associated with a brand that was insufficiently woke in the past.  Dont be too white; dont be too thin.  This paean to female empowerment is a plea for forgiveness from the titans who run Mattel, but I suspect it will be another case of Go woke, go broke.

On Sky News Australia, one researcher even thought it worthwhile her time, and ever...

Bledisloe Cup LIVE | Eddie turns to mind games as winless Wallabies face unbeaten All Blacks "IndyWatch Feed National"

July 29, 2023

The first game of the Bledisloe Cup is on tonight at 7pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time). The Bledisloe Cup is an annual rugby union test competition between Australia and New Zealand. It normally involves three matches. This year, because of the rugby world cup starting in September, there are two matches. New Zealand currently holds the cup. Australia would have to win the two games to win the trophy back. The second match is next Saturday in Dunedin in New Zealands deep south. To win these two games would be very difficult, if not impossible for the out-of-form Wallabies.

The All Blacks are running red-hot in the lead-up to the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France.

Im going there in October. I have tickets to the All Blacks two possible quarter finals, the semis and finals. Six games in total over consecutive weekends. All at Stade de France in Paris.

The limitarian implications of utilitarianism "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

My fellow Crooked Timber blogger Ingrid Robeyns has long been making the case for limitarianism, that is, the idea that there should be an upper limit on the amount any one person can own or consume. As Ingrid has observed, limitarianism is a constraint, rather than a complete ethical principle, so its important to consider how it interacts with other principles. In the case of utilitarianism, the answer is surprisingly well, at least in (using Ingrids terminology) this and nearby worlds. But understanding this requires a little bit of background and some arithmetic.

Shorter JQ: utilitarianism implies limitarianism. The full argument is over the field (no tricks this time, I promise).

First, utilitarianism is a political philosophy, dealing with the question of how the resources in a community should be distributed. And it starts, as in Bentham, from the assumption that people are sufficiently similar in capability and strength that they must all be taken into account equally. This does not, in itself, imply equality of outcomes or even opportunity, but it rules out notions that some group is inherently deserving of better treatment than others.

Second, (this shouldnt be necessary to state, but it is), there is no such thing as utility. Its a theoretical construct which can be used to compare different allocations of resources, not a number in peoples heads that can be measured and added up. Nonsense about utility monsters and similar is just that.

The practical implication of this is that we need a measure which answers the question: how does the benefit of giving an additional unit of resources to one person compare to the benefit of giving those resources to another. A utility function is a way of answering that question.

There is an ethical judgement here which can be addressed in various ways. We can take a Rawls/Harsanyi original position, rely on introspection or look at peoples choices over time and under uncertainty. None of these are perfect, but most yield one clear conclusion: marginal utility declines with income or, more simply, an extra dollar is worth more to a poor person than to a rich one. But how much more?

The classic answer to this question, going back to Daniel Bernoulli, is that we can think of utility as a logarithmic function of income (or wealth). What that means is that a given proportional increase (or reduction) in income has the same value whoever receives it. Most recent estimates are similar. So, utilitarianism suggests converting everyones income to its logarithm and adding them all up. This may sound mechanical but the implications are striking.

What does this mean for limitarianism? If we take a centibillionaire such as Elon Musk, his wealth is of the order of 10^11. Using base-10 log (it doesnt change anything if you use another...

The push to accelerate the creation of a local missile manufacturing industry in co-operation with the US will be one of the centrepiece announcements at the Australia-United States Ministerial (AUSMIN) consultations on Saturday.

Both US and Australian officials are seeking to play down concerns...

Australias nuclear waste "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

finding a national waste repository is not urgent because it has been stored this way for 60 years.

its not even clear if centralising the waste is the best option. ..theres an implicit risk in transporting the waste from the various sites to a new site, and there should be a safety comparison with leaving it where it is.

Courts have quashed a decision to store water in Kimbra, meaning there is still no centralised repository in the country

Guardian. Tory Shepherd, Sat 29 Jul 2023

More than 20 tonnes of reprocessed nuclear fuel will stay at Australias only reactor in southern Sydney, while nuclear waste will remain scattered in cupboards and filing cabinets around the country, after the federal court blocked plans for a long-term storage site in outback South Australia.

The site in Kimba was selected more than 40 years after Australia started planning for a centralised repository. But this month, that decision was quashed by the courts.

There is currently no live national facility option, and the waste pile is growing.

Successive governments and agencies have said there are more than 100 sites that are storing nuclear waste littered...

Breakout World Cup star Linda Caicedo may not feature again in the tournament after the Colombian collapsed at training in distressing scenes that were caught on video.

The young gun, 18, was rushed to hospital and was unconscious for at least 90 seconds as medics and terrified team-mates rushed to her aid at the teams base in Sydney.

The rising star was later released from hospital but is unlikely to feature in her countrys match against Germany on Sunday.

Footage shows the star jogging with teammates before she suddenly stops, clutches her chest and falls to the ground.

Concerned players gather around her before a woman who appears to be a member of the training staff sprints to the scene, closely followed by other team staffers, one of whom was carrying a kit bag.

How to Responsibly Dispose of a Mattress "IndyWatch Feed National"

Disposing of a mattress can be a real pain. They are heavy, bulky and cumbersome. They dont fit in bins or skips and some waste removal companies wont take mattresses.

However, there are a number of convenient (and even eco-friendly) ways to dispose of old, unwanted mattresses. In this guide, well explore different methods for responsibly disposing of a mattress, taking into its type, recycling options, donation opportunities, council hard rubbish pick up, and tips for cleaning if you plan to sell or donate it.

Different Types of Mattresses and Their Impact on Disposal

Before diving into disposal methods, its essential to understand the types of mattresses and their materials. The three most common mattress types are innerspring, memory foam, and latex.

Innerspring Mattresses: These traditional mattresses have steel coils inside, making them heavier and harder to recycle. Disassembling them can be a challenge, and not all recycling centres accept them.

Memory Foam Mattresses: Memory foam mattresses are known for their comfort and support. They are typically more recyclable than innerspring mattresses, as they contain fewer components that need separation.

Latex Mattresses: Latex mattresses are made from natural or synthetic latex, which is more eco-friendly than other materials. They are generally biodegradable and can be an excellent choice for those concerned about sustainability.

Considering the materials in your mattress can help you choose the most environmentally friendly disposal method.

Council Hard Rubbish Pick Up

Council hard rubbish pick up is a convenient way to dispose of large household items, including mattresses. Check with your local council for scheduled hard rubbish collection days and guidelines for mattress disposal. However, keep in mind that not all councils offer this service, and some may charge fees for the collection.

Waste Collection Companies

For a small fee, many waste collection companies will collect old mattresses. As with hard rubbish pick-up, its as easy as scheduling a collection time and leaving the mattress in the designated pick-up area, and the waste collection company will do the rest.

Mattress Recycling Companies

Recycling your old mattress is one of the best ways to ensure it doesnt end up in a landfill. Fortunately, there are mattress recycling companies that specialise in breaking down mattresses into their individual components for reuse.

Before contacting a recycling company, ensure that they accept the type of mattress you have. Some facilities may focus on specific materials and may not be equ...

Swimming in Circles: Aquaculture and the End of Wild Oceans "IndyWatch Feed National"

Editor's Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published September 30, 2018.

In this interview, investigative journalist and fishing industry insider Paul Molyneaux discusses aquaculture and the dangers of farmed fish, which are also the topics of his book "Swimming in Circles: Aquaculture and the End of Wild Oceans."

From my perspective, the two most dangerous foods served in most restaurants are factory farmed chicken, which is responsible for a majority of foodborne illnesses, and farmed fish, especially farmed salmon, which is among the most toxic foods on the planet.

Salmon Farming in Cobscook Bay

At the age of 17, Molyneaux left home and got a job in commercial fishing, which led to work in aquaculture in the late '70s.

"I always had an interest in aquaculture, although I primarily was a commercial fisherman. In the late '80s, I ran a fish processing plant for the Passamaquoddy tribe in Eastport, Maine, on Cobscook Bay. There was a sudden push to do salmon farming in the bay.

The way the promoters at the time, a company called Ocean Products sold it to us was [by] saying, 'You can become farmers of the sea. You can start giving back to the ocean.' We bought it hook, line and sinker Last summer, there were about six of us standing on the dock in Eastport, saying, 'Geez, we thought this was going to be great.'"

As fisheries had dwindled, they believed aquafarming would be the answer to keeping the fishing industry alive. Alas, the industry was rapidly consolidated into the hands of just a few players. "Now, it's in the hands of one," Molyneaux says.

What's worse, it didn't take long before the environmental downsides of aquaculture became readily apparent as well. In the late 1990s, infectious salmon anemia virus spread like wildfire among the salmon pens in Cobscook Bay, wiping out the fishery as 2 million fish had to be discarded overnight.

"That set the industry back. Now, it's owned by one company Cooke Aquaculture and pretty much everything is automated. They have a tremendous sea lice problem.

They're pouring tons of SLICE into those pens, and they're coming up with new systems now because they're finding the sea lice medication is now in the mollusks, like the scallops that are also harvested from the bay. Cooke has been fined twice in the last five years for using an illegal chemical, cypermethrin, to fight sea lice."

Sporadic Reports of Malaria Followed by Breakthrough Announcement of mRNA Vaccine "IndyWatch Feed National"

By Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH | Courageous Discourse  | July 26, 2023

As an internal medicine physician and cardiologist I am in tune to diseases seen and presented at morning report at big academic medical centers. I can tell you over the decades each year there are a few cases of malaria. Travel history and contact tracing are never precise enough to declare where it came from. Malaria gives us a chance to talk about the characteristic life cycle of organism (plasmodium species), the mosquito vector, use of diagnostic testing including the blood smear etc.

So I was suspicious a few days ago when I heard about malaria in the U.S. as making a comeback and some patients asking me about bug spray. Now I see why there could be a manufactured interest in the age-old illness that is well treated with medicationsa mRNA vaccine.

Alexa Cook at NewsHub is reporting: A team of researchers from Victoria University of Wellingtons Ferrier Research Institute, the Malaghan Institute and the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Australia have developed an mRNA-based vaccine that can effectively target and stimulate protective immune cell responses against the malaria-causing parasite.

Fecal microbiota transplantation in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus. "IndyWatch Feed National"

PMID:  J Autoimmun. 2023 May 11:103058. Epub 2023 May 11. PMID: 37179170 Abstract Title:  Fecal microbiota transplantation in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus: What we learnt from the explorative clinical trial. Abstract:  Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with the characterized presence of autoantibodies and resulting in multiple organ damage, which is incurable and can be lethal. The current treatments are limited and less progress has been made in drug discovery for the last few decades. Researches imply that gut dysbiosis exists in both patients and murine models with SLE, taking part in the pathogenesis of SLE through multiple mechanisms such as microbiota translocation and molecular mimicry. Intestinal interventions on the gut microbiome by fecal transplantations to reconstitute the gut-immunity homeostasis serve as a novel therapeutic option for SLE patients. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), which is usually used in intestinal diseases, has been firstly demonstrated to be safe and efficient in recovering gut microbiota structure of SLE patients and reducing lupus activity in our recent clinical trial, which is the first trial testing FMT therapy in SLE treatment. In this paper, we reviewed the results of the single-arm clinical trial and made recommendations on FMT practice in SLE treatment including therapeutic indications, screening items and dosage regimen, trying to provide references for future study and clinical practice. We also came up with the unanswered questions that need to be solved by the ongoing randomized controlled trial as well as the future expectations for the intestinal intervention strategies of SLE patients.

Weird Musks weird obsession with X "IndyWatch Feed National"

Twitter owner Elon Musk has abruptly renamed the company as simply X. He had earlier named his first company X.com. Jill Lepore writes that Musk has long had a fascination with this particular letter, that can be traced back to his father and grandfather who were leaders of a so-called Technocracy movement and called themselves Technocrats and believed that only engineers and scientists could save the world from a looming catastrophe.

Technocrats objected to politicians and economists, democracy, and socialism. They wanted an end to all banks. In the future that Technocrats including Musks grandfather were planning for,There will be no place for Politics or Politicians, Finance or Financiers, Rackets or Racketeers. There would also be no place for personal names. One technocrat, for instance, renamed himself 1x1809x56. Musk named one of his sons X A-12X, for short.

Why name a baby X A-12, something that is going to result in the child being tormented by their peers and likely require years of therapy as an adult? This whole business of parents trying to give their children weird names to make some ideological point seems to be sheer vanity, seeing the child as a vehicle for their own obsessions and ignoring their needs. I am really glad that my parents gave me an utterly common name. As least it is common in Sri Lanka though, because it is simple enough, it is only a little exotic now that I am in the US.

But Musk has big plans for the company that he now has renamed X, seeing it as the precursor to an everything app, whatever the hell that is.

X, Musk promises, will be the everything app. X is the Technocrats dream deferred, a way to engineer society, the economy, and politics. Extreme capitalismMuskismas the answer to existential risk. With any luck, it will be a disaster.

I hope so too.

CONSTRUCTION works to replace the causeway on Otford Road will start in early August, six months after it was damaged beyond repair in a major weather event.

The replacement causeway has been designed to current, contemporary standards and, Wollongong City Councils general manager, Greg Doyle said will be able to withstand major storm events.

The causeway, he says, has improved features, including debris deflectors to prevent blockages during times of significant rainfall, better line marking and additional warning signage.

We all remember the images of the original causeway with its huge slabs of concrete lifted out of place and moved along the Hacking River and the broken culverts after that February rain event, Mr Doyle said.

Experts push back against Victoria Polices grab for new powers to detain children "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

A coalition of over 40 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, health, legal, social, community services and youth advocacy organisations from across Victoria have called on Premier Daniel Andrews and Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes to commit to ruling out any new powers for police over children, once the age of criminal responsibility is raised. The calls respond to recent comments from Victoria Police Commissioner Shane Patton seeking power to arrest and detain children as young as 10, after the reforms are implemented.

In an open letter, the coalition calls for the Victorian Government to invest in a model of care for children which ensures they have the critical supports they need. This model must be designed in close collaboration with Aboriginal communities, advocates for children in the care system and other overrepresented communities. The letter also urges the Victorian Government to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14 without exceptions.

In May 2023, Victoria Police Commissioner Patton appeared before the Yoorrook Justice Commission and acknowledged that policing of Aboriginal people today is still influenced by systemic and structural racism. Aboriginal young people are almost six times more likely to be processed by police as alleged offenders than non-Aboriginal young people. Any new police powers would disproportionately affect Aboriginal children and families.

Criminalising children is never the answer to behaviours resulting from complex, unmet needs. Evidence shows that any engagement with the criminal legal system, including first contact with police, can be highly distressing and cause harm to a young child.

In a crisis, children need first responders who are skilled in health, youth support and other critical services.

There will be better outcomes for Victorias children, families and communities in the long-term if children are diverted away from the criminal legal system.

Quotes attributable to Anoushka Jeronimus, Youthlaw Program Director at WestJustice, Co-Convenor of Smart Justice for Young People:

Children who harm others are also victims of harm themselves. Victoria needs to raise the age of criminal responsibility and ensure the most vulnerable children are being supported, not arrested. These children need health, youth and education services, and it should be child and family workers taking the lead, not police. Its better in the long-run for children and the wider community if children stay in school, get the support they need, and reconnect with their families now.

The Voice confusing for migrants and refugees "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

If youre finding the definition, intention and scope of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament confusing, you can only imagine the struggle that some newly arrived migrants and refugees are having.

A new survey has found that many are largely unaware and confused about the proposal to create The Voice.

An overwhelming majority of newcomers know little about The Voice proposal or the upcoming referendum and the change it would mean to Australias constitution.

Migrant and refugee settlement agency AMES Australia recently surveyed 150 people from 30 different countries studying English or accessing migrant or refugee settlement services at, Noble Park, Dandenong, Werribee, Footscray and in Western Sydney. All had been in Australia less than five years.

130 of the participants were surveyed randomly and a control groups of 30 people were surveyed after a 30-minute explanation session on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Not aware of The Voice

Among the random group, more than 67 per cent of respondents were either not aware or only partly aware of The Voice Proposal and 75 per cent were not aware it would mean a change to the constitution.

Asked whether they generally supported the idea of a Voice, 40 per cent were unsure, although almost 50 per cent said they were in favour.

But the survey found that the more people knew about The Voice, the more likely they were to support it.

Among the sample group who received an explanation session, 80 per cent said they were in favour of the creation of The Voice and another 20 per cent were mostly in favour.

Eighty percent of this group said they were aware of The Voice proposal and 20 per cent were mostly aware.

Fifty per cent said they were aware of the details of The Voice proposal and another 30 per cent were mostly aware.

Eighty per cent of respondents in the control group said they were aware, or mostly aware, of the historical lack of representation of indigenous peoples in national affairs. For the random group this figure was just 25 per cent.

Who would vote Yes or No

Asked if they would vote for a Voice to Parliament, among the random group 50 per cent were unsure, 37.5 per cent said they would and 12.5 per cent said they would not. In the control group, 80 per cent said they would vote for a Voice and 20 per cen...

Eight major pro-Israel Jewish organisations from seven different countries have united to create a new task force to defend Israel under the guides of combatting anti-Semitism. The groups in the Task Force Against Anti-Semitism have all embraced the controversial International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism and placed defending Israel from criticism at the centre of their work.

Calling themselves J7, the anti-Palestinian taskforce comprises prominent Jewish organisations from the US, the UK, France, Germany, Canada, Argentina and Australia: the Anti-Defamation League (ADL); the Conference of Presidents of American Jewish Organisations; the Board of Deputies of British Jews; Conseil Reprsentatif des Institutions Juives de France (CRIF); the Central Council of Jews in Germany; the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA); Delegacin de Asociaciones Israelitas Argentinas (DAIA); and the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ).

Anti-Semitism is rising around the world, especially in countries where there are large Jewish populations. We needed to meet these challenges through coordinated action, ADL head Jonathan Greenblatt told Haaretz. This new coalition of major organisations representing seven large Jewish Diaspora communities in liberal democracies will provide a formal framework for coordination, consultation and formulating global responses to anti-Semitic threats against the Jewish people.

Greenblatt is one of the key proponents of the idea that anti-Zionism and legitimate criticism of the state of Israel equate to anti-Semitism. He is spearheading the initiative. The idea for the J7 came out of conversations I had with partners in France over our shared challenges and concerns. When we reached out to these seven communities, there was instant enthusiasm about the importance of the seven of us consulting, and what we might achieve working together.

The collaboration comes as Israel faces sharp criticism for its political shift to the far-right. Internally the occupation state is facing the prospect of a civil war, according to former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert; internationally, a consensus is emerging about Israels practice of apartheid. With the highly...

Deadly fire ants just north of NSW border "IndyWatch Feed Northcoast"

The South American fire ant. Photo Invasive Species Council.

A new outbreak of the highly invasive and potentially deadly fire ants has been discovered 5.5km from the NSW border at a pony club in Tallebudgera, says the Invasive Species Council (ISC).

Spokesperson, Reece Pianta said, It puts NSW at extreme risk of being invaded by the highly destructive pest species.

The distance is now close enough for a single queen ants flight to spark a fire ant infestation across the border.

Fire ants will devastate our native wildlife and cause billions of dollars in lost agricultural production every year.

In Qld, we are already seeing sports fields and beaches closed owing to the extremely painful sting inflicted by fire ants.

100,000 extra hospital visits per year

Modelling suggests that if fire ants spread across the continent, they could cause over 100,000 extra hospital visits in Australia every year, said Mr Pianta.

The ISC is calling on Australias governments to urgently fast-track funding for a ramped up and effective eradication program.

Mr Pianta said, The governments own strategic review estimated that at least $200 to $300 million per year will be required for ongoing efforts to achieve eradication by 2032. But instead, they have only committed $60 million for this financial year, which is $34 million less than was spent last financial year.

In a press release on July 13, 2023, federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Murray Watt (Labor), said the $60 million being spent on eradication efforts, just this financial year, is nearly four times what had previously been committed.

Despite the ISC and the federal government being at odds over budget costings, it appears the feds and states have some catch-up to do when it comes to releasing the funds to address fire ants.

Still work to be done

Nearly 100 Pilot Whales Die After Beaching in Australia "IndyWatch Feed National"

Nearly 100 pilot whales became stranded on Cheynes Beach in Western Australia on Tuesday. Most of the pod, 52 whales, died overnight, and the rest have been euthanized, according to officials, as rescue efforts over two days have failed.

The pilot whales were first seen swimming in the area on Tuesday morning, but they covered much of Cheynes Beach by late afternoon, The Associated Press reported. Volunteers worked to rescue the surviving beached whales on Tuesday and Wednesday.

What were seeing is utterly heartbreaking and distressing, Reece Whitby, environment minister for Western Australia, said. Its just a terrible, terrible tragedy to see these dead pilot whales on the beach.

Hundreds of volunteers along with Perth Zoo veterinarians and experts in marine fauna worked to move the whales back into the water and were able to do so, but only temporarily, NPR reported. The whales became stranded again on the beach, and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions announced plans to euthanize the remaining whales.

DBCA officers and veterinarians have completed assessing the whales that re-stranded on Cheynes Beach this afternoon. Sadly, the decision had to be made to euthanise the remaining whales to avoid prolonging their suffering, the department announced on Facebook. It was a difficult decision for all involved however the welfare of the whales had to take precedence. We thank everyone who assisted with the attempt to save the whales over the last two days.

According to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation, long-finned pilot whales are extremely social animals and are actually part of the dolphin family. Individuals bond closely to others in their pod and will stay together, even if it is dangerous to do so, the organization explained. In the case of the beached pilot whales on Cheynes Beach, wildlife experts predict the pod could have been experiencing stress or illnes...

Russia Will Not Renew International Grain Deal; Some Context "IndyWatch Feed National"

By Ted Snider | The Libertarian Institute | July 27, 2023

Like the war that necessitated it, Russias decision not to renew the United Nations and Turkish-brokered grain deal is bad for the world but not wholly unprovoked.

The deal allowed Ukraine safe passage for its grain laden ships through the mined and blockaded Black Sea ports so it could continue to export its agriculture to the world.

On July 17, Russia announced its decision not to renew the deal.

It has repeatedly been reported that Russias decision is retaliation for Ukraines recent sabotage of the Kerch Strait bridge that links Crimea to the Russian mainland. But President Vladimir Putin had announced the distinct possibility of suspending the agreement prior to the attack on the bridge.

During a July 13 question period, in a response to a journalist, Putin said, prior to the attack on the bridge, We can suspend our participation in this deal.

Putin gave two reasons for suspending the deal after having extended this so-called deal many times. The first is that, though it was Russia that suspended the deal, it was the West that broke it. As for the conditions under which we agreed to ensure the safe export of Ukrainian grain, yes, there were clauses in this agreement with the United Nations, according to which Russian interests had to be taken into account as well, Putin said. Not a single clause related to what is in the interests of the Russian Federation has been fulfilled.

Announcing the decision not to renew the deal four days later, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov repeated that charge; Unfortunately, the part of the Black Sea agreement that concerns Russia has not yet been fulfilled. As a result, it has been terminated. However, he added that As soon as the Russian part [of the deal] is fulfilled, the Russian side will immediately return to the implementation of this deal. Putin made a similar pledge in his answer to the journalist. One option, he said, is not first the extension and then the honouring of promises, but first the honouring of promises and then our participation. What do I mean? We can suspend our participation in this deal, and if everybody once again says that all the promises made to us will be fulfilled, let them fulfil themand we will immediately join this deal. Again.

INTERVIEW: Freddie Ponton Why Russia and Africa Are Natural Partners "IndyWatch Feed National"

Putin and Russia are realising that Africa can be equal partners going forward in a multipolar world.

In this episode of the Patrick Henningsen Show on TNT Radio which aired on July 26, 2023,  Patrick talks with independent French researcher and journalist Freddie Ponton, discusses the recent Russia-Africa Summit in St. Petersburg and why this marks a historic shift in the balance of power and influence globally. It seems that, unlike the West, Putin and Russia recognise that 21st-century Africa can be equal partners going forward in a multipolar world. BRICS is also the pet of this new paradigm as African leaders look to escape the Wests IMF debt trap which has stunted their development for the last 50 years. All this and more. Listen:

Live There, Got the T-Shirt "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Its almost impossible to talk about Winnipeg, Manitoba, without talking about its inferiority complex. When I first moved here, by choice, in 2008, people would always ask me, Why? Why would you do such a thing? Why would you move here?

Over the next few years, I had fun attempting to answer this question on my blog, alongside two other close friends who had decided to give Winnipeg a try. Bringing our positive, curious, and upbeat lens to civic life in a notoriously self-loathing place led to all sorts of fun experiences and even what we felt could be 15 minutes of local fame

We wrote about interesting local expressions, pronunciations, and practices. We compared systems here to the ones we had been used to in the places wed previously lived. That first summer we even got invited by a local radio station to determine the best restaurant patio in the city and do in-studio reports on our research. We were mostly writing the blog for ourselves, and it was nuts to us that our takes were so novel and unexpected that anyone else was interested.

After a few years, my unbridled enthusiasm for Winnipeg had definitely waned, for several reasons. Becoming a parent had jostled my rose-colored glasses and I could now see a little more clearly the way that people in the city were struggling. This intensified when we decided to sell our car and get around primarily by bus, bike, and walking. Meeting other people who wanted a better city was a blessing and a curse: a feeling of finding my people but also having too many discussions about how unhappy our city was making us.

And so it was, that when I walked into a spring market a couple of months ago and saw a T-shirt that read I dont NOT love Winnipeg, I knew I had to have it.

The Pandelusion "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

BY HUGH WILLBOURN | THE DAILY SCEPTIC | JULY 24, 2023
my new book, The Bug in our Thinking. In it I quote Carl Sagan from 1996:

Weve arranged a society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science and technology. And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces. Who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people dont know anything about it?

Science is more than a body of knowledge, its a way of thinking. A way of sceptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask sceptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be sceptical of those in authority, then were up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along.

Sagan was on the money. Every day brings news of more absurdities from charlatans in science, education, politics and media. To quote myself, from the same book: Never have so many been so wrong about so much.

Why is this happening?

If I could answer that in a couple of paragraphs I would not have had to write a whole book. Here, I will focus on just one element. Underneath all the dangerous and troubling beliefs about gender, climate, race, migration, medicine and vaccination lies a psychological problem. Too many people believe things that are not true. This is the new normal. Lets call it the Pandelusion.

The Pandelusion thinking and doing the right thing is the worldview relentlessly promoted by most of the media and driven by bad science and big money.

This doesnt require a conspiracy by the way. That is just what the profit motive will do when untrammelled by conscience or virtue. For the controlling minority of society it is extremely lucrative to promote the Pandelusion. For the majority, the result is an expensive, destructive, disempowering rip-off.

It would take an encyclopaedia to itemise and refute each of the delusions one at a time. In fact it already has. On websites and Substacks and in books and scholarly journals millions of words have been written refuting every one of the dominant delusions with rational argumen...

Womens World Cup welcome ceremony stuns "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

AUSTRALIA has gone green and gold for the Matildas with more than 75,000 fans turning up to watch their first World Cup match against Ireland.

The Matildas kicked off their campaign at Stadium Australia with a 1-0 win thanks to step-in captain Steph Catleys penalty in the second half as the Tillies opened their campaign last week.

Close to 1.4 million tickets have been snapped up, surpassing previous tournament records. More Matildas jerseys have sold than the Socceroos managed during and since the 2022 mens World Cup, according to sportswear brand Nike.

The match was initially scheduled to take place at the 42,000-capacity Sydney Football Stadium, but Football Australia (FA) and FIFA agreed to take a chance and flip the game to the bigger venue.

All of Australias major cities, including Melbournes iconic football hub Federation Square, are turning green and gold with dedicated live sites. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese sent a message of support to the Matildas ahead of their opening

How to Deal With Grief: Yes, There Is Light "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Freedom Under Attack

One of the things that is driving a lot of people crazy right now is the ease with which our inalienable freedoms are being taken away.

It seems unfathomable and insane. Weve believed so naively in our hearts that due to our great luck of living in the West, we can move around as we please and say what we think. But now? Now, suddenly, we find ourselves in a place where we are just like the folks in other parts of the world where people have no meaningful rights. And our hearts scream, why is being done to us, why?!!

We are now being told to trust the Man over the evidence of our own eyes. We are told to "not do our own research" and keep our opinions to ourselves. We are told to take shorter showers and freak out about our gas stoves.

We are told to feel bad about ourselves in general unless we are willing to let go of whatever bodily and spiritual sovereignty weve enjoyed up until three years ago and replace our independent decision making with internalized enthusiasm and compliance with the barking orders of the day.

It is very hard for any human being to process the fact that our sovereign bodies are viewed by our elected and unelected rulers not as our sovereign bodies but as property of theirs. By the way, when we talk about bodily sovereignty, we often do so in the context of vaccine mandates but the mandates are merely "their" foot in the door. "They" want more!

For example, in 2019, in a curious article titled, "Privacy in 2034: A corporation owns your DNA (and maybe your body)," Fast Company asked: "Should you have a right to keep your emotions, mental state, and other biometric details private from persistent recognition?" Oh really, should I? You are asking me that with a straight face? Well, I happen to know the correct answer to that question, and the answer is, "Yes, I should, and I do, and by the way, its an abusive question to ask."

So indeed, it is very hard to process the fact that our sovereign bodies are treated by the "masters" as property of theirs. It was very hard for those who had faced such abuse in the past, and it is very hard for us.

It is hard to face the absurd "new normal" reality in which many joys of life that weve b...

Should Council manage or oppose the overcrowding of Frankston? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

In the Your Questions answered section of the Frankston Councils [1] that Frankstons population will increase by 20,000, curiously, no time period over which this projected increase is to occur is given. 20,000 represents one extra inhabitant for every seven of the current 141,002 inhabitants of Frankston. [2] In contrast, at the start of the YouTube video Frankston City Council Metropolitan Actvity Centre (FMAC) Structure Plan [3] released in September 2022, it is stated that Melbournes population is set to more than double in the next 30 years.

So, why the apparent discrepancy, unless, Frankston Council is now trying to downplay the amount by which they expect the population of Frankston to increase?

However, it is clear that even Frankston Council accepts that an increase, even by only 1 in 7, necessitates changes to planning zones, that is allowing, or forcing, owners of free-standing homes to sell their properties to be converted into high-rise developments. Neighbourhoods will become ever more crowded and more congested, whilst those still living in free-standing homes will be hit with ever higher council rates as their property valuations rise.

Those who are now struggling to pay mortgages and rent, can only expect worse as the cost of housing gets higher from greater demand. The same will occur for other living expenses including medication, education, petrol, electricity, gas and other services, as higher demand can only drive prices up. Given that ever more agricultural land stands to be lost to urban development, the price of food could increase to an even greater extent, over and above expected losses due to climate change.

Native bushland and other recreation areas will become more scarce.

Why add to Melbournes traffic congestion?

Melbourne's traffic congestionMelbournes infamous traffic congestion, together with crowding in public transport can only become worse if the population of all of Melbourne, including that of Frankston, continues to grow.

High-rise living unhealthy, uninsurable and wastes energy

Most multi-storey apartments require additional energy, whether for lifts, air-conditioning and clothes drying, and limit the exposure to fresh air, grass and vegetation, for children and pets to play in. In addition, insurers currently do not insure any appartment building in Victoria more than three stories high.

When were Frankston residents ever consulted about whether to increase our population?

The stated purpose of todays `community....
